COMPETE FOR THE CAUSE Monroe County YMCA s CORPORATE CHALLENGE 2017 Handbook Benefiting the Y For All Campaign Fund MonroeCountyYMCA.org

Introduction The YMCA presents Corporate Challenge for businesses and organizations of Monroe and surrounding counties. It is comprised of more than 25 different sporting events and takes place during September and October each year. Corporate Challenge helps to increase employee health and fitness, develop community spirit, and boost company morale, all while raising scholarship funds for the Y For All Annual Campaign. Companies are divided into divisions based on the number of employees the company has. Some companies do a little bit of everything, while some just pick a few events and encourage their staff to do those. Each company pays an entry fee (differs by company size), then it s pay as you play for each employee in each event. Every event has a different cost. Top reasons to participate: Unlimited access to both YMCA branches for all employees throughout the Challenge (August 30 through October 4) Team-building for your employees Encourage employee wellness Support the important mission of the YMCA Network with more than 1,000 other professionals in Bloomington This handout contains details about events, eligibility, scoring, awards, and event rules. If you do not find the answers to your questions in this booklet, please call Matt Osgood at (812) 961-2157, mosgood@monroecountyymca.org. Y FOR ALL Campaign WE RE MORE THAN A GYM WE RE A CAUSE The Monroe County YMCA is a nonprofit organization committed to meeting the growing needs of our community. But we can t do it without community help. The community makes all the difference through the Y For All Annual Campaign which provides needed funds to ensure individuals and families can participate at the Y. Corporate Challenge supports this campaign generously, so we hope you will come together to support our cause. We believe everyone deserves the Y, and by working together, we can give all an opportunity to grow and thrive. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate you supporting the Y so I can come here. - Janet Bell Janet Bell is one of many impacted by Y For All financial support. Janet, 80, is extremely grateful to be part of the Y family. She has been coming to the Y three to four times a week since 2003! Janet believes the time spent at the Y has been essential to her well-being, as well as the many friendships she has made over the years. Because of generous contributions that support the Y For All Campaign, Janet is receiving the support she needs to live her best life. Join us in investing in our community. You can support the Y by participating in Corporate Challenge or make a contribution to the Y For All Annual Campaign. For more information, contact Sara Herold at (812) 961-2169 or sherold@monroecountyymca.org.

Eligibility & Divisions 1. Participating companies must have a plant or office based in Monroe or adjacent counties. 2. Individuals must be current or retired employees of the company or agency being represented, or volunteers if the organization is a volunteer organization. Spouses or family members not employed by the company or agency may not participate. Each participant may represent only one company. 3. Doctors, or those who practice/work at more than one facility, may participate for only one organization. These physicians must also receive a paycheck from the organization. 4. An individual may participate in any number of events. Individuals may only be on one team per event. 5. Participants must receive a paycheck from the organization they represent in order to be eligible for events. 6. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Divisions Companies with 0-49 employees Sponsor fee: $40.00 Companies with 50-149 employees Sponsor fee: $50.00 Companies with 150-349 employees Sponsor fee: $60.00 Companies with 350-999 employees Sponsor fee: $95.00 Companies with 1,000+ employees Sponsor fee: $135.00 Companies who successfully recruit a new team Sponsor fee: $0.00 Unsure about which division your company qualifies for? Please contact Matt Osgood (812) 961-2157 or mosgood@monroecountyymca.org YMCA Facility Use One of the benefits of the YMCA s Corporate Challenge is that participants can use the YMCA facilities for training. After a participant has signed and turned in their waiver they will be able to use the Monroe County YMCA anytime once the first Corporate Challenge event begins. There will be a sign-up sheet at the YMCA Welcome Center. Each Corporate Challenge participant must sign-in with their name, company, and be ready to show a picture I.D. Contact Matt Osgood at (812) 961-2157 or e-mail mosgood@monroecountyymca.org if your company would like to schedule time for employees to use the Monroe County YMCA. For information about Monroe County YMCA membership call the YMCA at 332-5555 or visit us on the web at www.monroecountyymca.org. We hope that by using the facility, you will want to join our association. We welcome your questions!

Team Captains A. Recruiting One of the hardest things you may encounter as a team captain is to recruit employees. If your company or organization is such that you are spread out all over town, you have an even more difficult job. You will want to recruit participants from every area or department, from the highest paid jobs to the lowest, from management to labor. Here are some general ideas that have worked in the past: 1. Choose a few people from main departments to help you recruit. 2. Meet on a regular basis with these individuals to plan and implement your strategies. 3. Get the word out! Communication is the key! Bulletin boards and information given out with paychecks is a good way to get the message out, but don t rely on these alone. One-on-one communication is the best way to reach everyone. 4. Use the Registration Form in this handbook to find out which events the employees want to participate. You can also get t-shirt sizes and other pertinent information from this form. 5. Make numerous copies of the Corporate Challenge Waiver Form and give to each department. Some companies have made different waivers for each event and then have individuals sign them. 6. Take advantage of e-mail and the YMCA website. All event updates and event descriptions will be on our website. (www.monroecountyymca.org) 7. Weekly employee meetings are a good way to present the program. It is a chance to tell people what Corporate Challenge is all about and answer any questions. B. Fill Out Forms 1. Fill out the Registration Form with the number of participants in each event, total number participating, and your company division. 2. Get every participant to sign a Waiver Form and return it to the YMCA. 3. Fill out Special Event Participation Forms with names and ages. 4. Attend the Captains meeting. 5. Be the liaison between your employees and the YMCA. C. Collect/Submit Fees 1. Entry Fee is based on the size of your company and is due August 21. 2. The Participation Fee is based on how many individuals/teams compete in each event. The Participation Fee bill will be mailed to the team captain by October 13. Any payments received after December 8 will be assessed a 10% late fee.

Volunteers Volunteers are essential to Corporate Challenge! These events cannot be held without them. We require that each participating company supply volunteers to assist in the events. Companies with more employees will be required to provide more volunteers than companies with fewer employees. Please remember, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Thank you very much for your cooperation and support with this area. Organizations will receive five (5) points per volunteer. At the captains meeting, your company will receive information as to what events your volunteers will be assigned. We will do our best to assign your volunteers to events in which your company is participating; however, there is no guarantee. Volunteers need to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of an event so they can receive their instructions. Contact Chris Stone with any volunteer questions, (812) 961-2360 or cstone@monroecountyymca.org Substitutions In the event a team member entered in a particular event is unable to participate, any person employed by the company may serve as a substitute provided: 1. The substitute meets all applicable eligibility requirements, including age, gender, and they are not currently entered in this event. 2. The substitute has completed and turned in a Participation Release Form. Awards 1. A trophy or plaque will be given to the first place team in each event. 2. Award certificates will be given to first, second, third and fourth places. 3. A traveling team championship trophy will be presented to the company in each division that accumulates the most points. 4. A special prize will be awarded to the winner of the Champion s Division.
