01 Welcome to 2014 The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is committed to ensuring all West Australians have the opportunity to participate in our great indigenous game as a participant, official, fan or volunteer. The WAFC supports education by providing quality, innovative and engaging curriculum resources: bringing our game into the classroom. WAFC District Development Officers, based in both metropolitan and regional locations, are your key liaison point for further information. Registration for our programs and competitions can be found at www.wafootball.com.au The Game Development team at the WAFC looks forward to your continued enthusiasm for Australian Football and hopes you and your students enjoy participating in the various football based programs on offer. Football in WA The West Australian Football Commission is the caretaker of football throughout the State, responsible for the overall development and sustainability of the game. Football in WA dates back to 1895. In 2013 it was the most popular sporting code in the State with 161, 429 active participants who engaged with six week or greater programs and competitions. The WAFC is a not for profit sporting association. It is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act and governed by a volunteer board that oversees the operation of all football activities throughout the state. The WAFC s role includes ownership of the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers Football Clubs; guiding the West Australian Football League; overseeing country and community football; managing umpiring and coaching; football development and managing Patersons Stadium. We create positive engagement through the active promotion of teamwork, responsibility, respect, leadership, commitment and community participation. Football is more than a game. Football helps to educate our young; improve the health of our community; prevent suicide; provide a stepping stone to a rewarding career; include the disabled; prevent bullying; assist migrants to learn about Australia; develop future leaders and promote good citizenship. In short, football enriches our community. WAFC is the manager of Patersons Stadium. Programs Our Secondary School programs and competitions are based on fun, participation and skill development. Please note: The supervising teacher must: Be present AT ALL TIMES Take charge of discipline for participating and observing students Introduce guests at the start of the session Model active involvement by participating, umpiring and/or coaching.
