It is the definitive resource for current and emerging outdoor recreation professionals in the university, military, municipal and the not-for-profit sectors. Mission The mission of the Association is to provide opportunities for professionals and students in the field of outdoor recreation and education to exchange information, promote the preservation and conservation of the natural environment, and address issues common to college, university, community, military, and other not-for-profit outdoor recreation and education programs. Vision The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education is the premier Association in the outdoor profession. By bringing together individuals and organizations, AORE contributes to a global community that fosters a culture of professionalism, collaboration and environmental stewardship. Through our Association, we actively engage in and impact the issues and policies that affect our membership and industry. Members AORE members are programmers, teachers, leaders, and students involved in outdoor programs. These include: college and university non-credit recreational programs and degree granting programs, military recreation, community recreation, and private outdoor schools. Any person or organization whose interests are consistent with the mission of the Association may become a member upon application and payment of dues.

These leadership opportunities allow members to have a strong impact on the future of AORE. Volunteer with an AORE committee, or assist with specific opportunities on a project-to-project basis. Access and Permitting Committee Financial Advisory Committee Presenter Relations Committee The APC provides advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and National Office on matters relating to access to public lands and waters for university outdoor programs, military outdoor programs and community recreation programs. This includes but is not limited to: a) Outfitter-guide permitting policies of federal and state land and water management agencies; b) Indemnification requirements for recreation programs that are state or local government entities; and c) Insurance requirements imposed as a condition of access to public lands and waters. Awards Committee The AC provides advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and National Office on matters relating to awards given by or through AORE. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee The DEIC provides advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and National Office on matters relating to diversity and inclusion in outdoor recreation and education. The DEIC develops strategies and providing advice for increasing the diversity and inclusiveness of the Association, the profession of outdoor recreation and education, and AORE member programs. The FAC will provide guidance and direction on the management of AORE s finances, but will not have responsibility for the day-to-day administration, management, finances, or operation of the organization. The FAC will provide perspective on the financial climate, relative policies, and strategic initiatives as directed by the BOD to achieve the agreed outcomes for the AORE. The Financial Advisory Committee will monitor and suggest modifications to the Cash Reserves and Long Term Reserves in alignment with AORE Strategic Plan and Investment policies. Environmental Stewardship Committee The ESC provides advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and National Office on matters relating to environmental stewardship. This includes but is not limited to: a) Internallyfocused environmental stewardship: Ensuring that AORE and its member programs operate in an environmentally sensitive way; and b) Externally-focused environmental stewardship: Advocating on environmentally-related public policy issues that affect the operations of AORE member programs. The PRC provides advice and recommendations to the AORE Board of Directors and National Office on matters relating to educational content for the AORE Annual Conference. This includes, but is not limited to: a) Reviewing educational presentation proposals; b) Recommending additions to the upcoming conference schedule; c) Preparing and providing for logistical support for presenters at the annual conference; and d) Planning for future conference session proposal needs. Research and Publications Committee The RPC guides the scholarly efforts of the AORE and supports the membership through the communication and support of research relevant to outdoor recreation and education. Student Development Committee The SDC provides advice and recommendations to the AORE Board of Directors on matters relating to student development. This includes but is not limited to: a) Assisting students with the development of professional competencies; b) Providing mentorship for student membership; and c) Advocating for the inclusion of all students in the field of outdoor recreation.
