2016 Southwest Teachers Association of Performing Arts State Championships Questions??? Email us at swtacompetition@aol.com All Entries must be postmarked by March 18 th April 23 rd & 24 th Lindale, Texas Lindale is located just North of Tyler. About 1 hour and 40 mins. east of Dallas on I-20 and about 40 mins. west of Longview. Lindale High School and Performing Arts Center 920 East Hubbard, Lindale, TX 75771 Age Groups: 0-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-19 & 20 & Up Age group is determined by the age of the contestant the day of the competition. Teams: Please be sure to average the ages correctly for the day of the contest. If your team averages 8.8 your team is still in the 7-8 age group. Baton Twirling and Gymnastics: There will be Beginner & Advanced levels for each age group. Teams: ½ of the team must not have won before to be in the Beginner division. For Duets/Trios: If one of the contestants has won in a Duet then they are advanced. If two have won in a Trio then they are advanced. For Solos: A student is a beginner until they win 1 st place or a Twirl-off/Dance-off/Gym-off at any competition in the category they are entering. ******************************************************************************************************************** Dance Solos, Duets/Trios and Teams: There will be Emerald and Ruby Divisions. The Emerald Level is only open to those taking 4 hours or less of dance per week. (This includes all classes and rehearsals) The Ruby level is open to anyone regardless of hours they take per week. DUETS/TRIOS: If one of the dancers is in the Ruby Division then they will compete in the Ruby Division. TEAMS: A routine with dancers of different levels will be entered in the division that applies to 50% or more of the dancers. Teams will be scored with a beautiful plaque given to the Studio Each team that places 1 st through 5 th will receive a label for the studio plaque A small trophy, medal or patch will be given as their award to each team member for their rating Each student that enters one or more Solos and Duets/Trios and receive a Platinum, High Gold, Gold or Silver will receive a nice size trophy. If you enter more than one solo or duet/trio you will receive one trophy in the height according to the number of solos and duet/trios you compete in. The Solos & Duet/Trios named SWTA Champion will also receive a beautiful Olympic style SWTA medallion. 2 nd & 3 rd will also receive a SWTA neck medal.

Competitive Solo and Duet/Trio Events are scheduled. Winners will be named State Champion! The judges will score each routine and there will be 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place named. If you miss this schedule time you may only perform for a divisional rating and will not be eligible for State Champion. The time schedule for teams, solos and duet/trios will be sent to each teacher 1 week prior to the competition. Divisional events cost $12 and will be judged separately. They will be available for those wishing to receive a divisional rating, not eligible for Championships. Divisionals may be done at any time on Saturday. You may purchase your divisional sheet at the competition. Any Changes to the schedule or entries after April 10 th will incur a $10 fee for each change and event. All Around Awards The contestant in each age group accumulating the most points in the following events during the contest will receive a beautiful large trophy and a $25 cash Award. If you want to be considered for All Around Twirler, Dancer or Gymnast you must enter this on your entry form with a $25 entry fee. You must enter each event listed below to compete for All Around. Twirling All Around Total Points from 1. Miss Majorette 2. Basic Strut or Mil. March 3. 1 or 2 Baton Dance Twirl 4. Novelty Solo or 2 Baton Solo 5. One Twirling Team Event The Team with the highest score in both the Gym and Auditorium throughout the day will receive a $100 Cash Award Gymnastics All Around- Total Points from 1. Gymnastics Fundamentals (see form for scoring on fundamentals) 2. Gymnastics Solo 3. One Gymnastics Team Event See the list of the fundamentals. Scoring for Fundamentals will be up to 5 pts. per trick Scoring System Each Judge is allocated 100 pts. 195-200 Platinum 185-194 High Gold 175-184 Gold 165-174 Silver Dance All Around- Total Points from 1. Ballet 2. Jazz 3. Tap or Clogging 4. Lyrical/Contemporary or Theatrical Nov. 5. One Dance Team Event There will be an All Around awarded in both the Emerald and the Ruby Div. Each Judge will pick an Outstanding Team & Solo! Outstanding Performance of the Day will be awarded for ages 0-10 & 11 & up

Solos, Duets and Trios $30 per person per event Teams $25 per person per event Please make sure you know how many you will have in each group, as no refunds will be given. Solos and Teams have a time limit of 3 mins. except for Production Dance category only allows 3 gymnastics tricks or runs in a routine. (Round off back handspring counts as one trick) This does not include twirling, gymnastics, theatrical novelty, open & cheerleading. Splits, illusions and handstands are not gymnastics. They are taught in all forms of dance. Each teacher will receive a schedule one week prior to the competition. Please make sure you know when your scheduled event is. Please have music on a CD and the only song on the CD. Mark the CD clearly with the studio name, team name or students name and the name of the song. DO NOT TURN IN A CD WITHOUT A LABEL. Everything runs much better if you have CDs clearly labeled. BRING A BACK UP! Please turn in 5 numbers before your scheduled time. IPods for back up only please. Please be ready to perform in the order you are scheduled. There is time in the schedule for a change of costumes, if the schedule gets changed too much those who need to change will not have the allotted time to do so. All entries and fees need to be mailed by the deadline of March 18th, 2016 Teachers must pay their yearly dues of $30. Please pay this with your entries. Only pay this fee one time. We have not collected any fees this year so they should all be paid with your entries. Entrance Fee to the competition is $8 per day or $10 for both days. There is no charge for the contestant and kids under 8 are free. Studio Director and 2 Assistants will be admitted free. Please turn the names in with your entries. Changes made after the deadline will have a charge of $10. Please enter your events correctly as the changes made will alter the schedule and then it is hard to make everything run smoothly.
