NEWSLETTER April 2015 Dear Valued Members, Good news re the tennis courts at last! The new fence is complete and looks great. The lights are running on schedule and should be up and running when you read this, and the new clay should be down. The coaches are looking forward to an excellent spring and summer of great coaching. They ll be motivating all the players to work hard, thus achieving their goals. Please tell your friends and colleagues what a great team we have here now. We are constantly thinking of ways to improve the product on offer. It is an ongoing project to get the tennis club up to scratch, and we thank all the tennis players for your patience and understanding through these trying times we currently find ourselves in. We hold our tennis coaches, and more importantly, our tennis members in the highest esteem; so please be assured we are doing our best to exceed your expectations. Our golf course continues to receive great feedback from visitors and new members. We recently held the first collegiate event at TPC, and the golfers all thought the course was fabulous; and the best score was 73 or 3 over par, so it held its own, which was nice to see. Congratulations to our green staff for the way the course was presented. Again, given the conditions that they have to work with, they should be commended for their efforts in presenting us golfers with a fine product now! We continue to look at ways we can improve the golfing experience here (by the way the Golf Clubhouse is filling up), it seems our new members are enjoying things. We now have Flight Scope fitted and up and running. We also have the only brand new, full Taylor Made club fitting station on the island. We can now design, and literally Taylor Make clubs for any golfer, indoors or outdoors!!!! We highly recommend golfers take the opportunity to get measured for clubs; if only to make sure that the ones you CURRENTLY use are set up correctly for you! The Pro Shop is stocked better now and we expect new deliveries of the latest apparel every 6 to 8 weeks. Please call in to see what we have these days. So, for all the golfers, we wish you long drives & short Putts! Sincerely, The Membership Team Lisa Mello Callan Bassett lisa.mello@rosewoodhotels.com callan.bassett@rosewoodhotels.com Lisa C. CLUB NOTICES MAINTENANCE MONTHLY The birds are out and nesting and the wild flowers are in bloom Spring has finally arrived! This is truly a great time of year as it marks the beginning of the growing season and we can now work on the health and density of our acreage here at Tuckers Point. We have a solid game plan for the upcoming summer, and are excited to initiate this plan in order to raise the level of playability from tee to green. Beginning in February of 2015, Tuckers Point Golf Course became a member of the Audubon International Society. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses is a program that helps golf courses to enhance habitats and protect natural resources for the benefit of members, wildlife and the game of golf. While Tuckers Point is already a member, it is our 3 year goal to be certified members of this program. In time, this will differentiate Tuckers Point from any other course on this Island as well as give our property a long lasting, sustainable blueprint for environmental stewardship for the future. To achieve our Certified Membership, I will be working on environmental programs that will help balance the demands of golf with our responsibility to the environment. Some of my upcoming initiatives for 2015 will be to reduce chemical use by 10% and to improve wildlife habitats in non-play areas around the course. You may see areas that are not being cut with mowers (left rough of #1 before fairway). These areas are being prepped as naturalized areas and we will be planting selected vegetation that will attract bees, butterflies and birds. They will be colorful and vibrant, and will be flourishing with wildlife. This is a very exciting program for Tuckers Point, which I look forward to spearheading for our course. As part of my monthly letter, I will add an Audubon section that will inform membership of progress with this program, as well as give information on some of the unique wildlife that calls our course home. If you have any questions regarding this program, please feel free to give me a call or send me an email, I m always looking for support, ideas and general conversations on ways to move forward. As always, be mindful of filling divots and fixing ball marks on greens. Hit them long, putt them straight and as always, a big thank you from the Stables. See you out there!
