Founding a multidisciplinary championship to embrace the diversity of all martial arts in the most positive way has been one of my most treasured achievements. I could not have done it without you. The Battle of Columbus was created to offer an opportunity for all martial arts practitioners around the world to compete in a variety of martial arts events and to explore, test, and share the skills that they diligently and patiently developed. The Battle of Columbus also offers a chance to meet martial arts leaders from many styles who share common goals in martial arts philosophy, principles, and traditions. As is our custom, we will be recognizing the great martial arts pioneers and their successors for their contributions to the development of the world of Martial Arts for Truth, Goodness, and Beauty with the 42 nd Battle of Columbus Martial Arts Hall of Honor and the Bruce Lee & Legends of Martial Arts Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday May 27, 2017, at (Location TBA) directly following the conclusion of the Championship. On Sunday, May 28, 2017, 10am-2pm, we are offering a special training seminar in various disciplines curricula including Kukkiwon Taekwondo Poomsae, Self-defense, Breaking, Weaponry, and more from 2pm-4pm. There will also be a rank promotion test open to those who have lost contact with their teachers or organizations (Details will follow). Following the Battle of Columbus, participants and families are encouraged to attend the world famous Asian Festival at Franklin Park (1775 E Broad St, Columbus, OH), on Sunday, May 27-28, 2017. He was born on November 27, 1940, in Hong Kong, was a graduate of Washington State University, and starred in many television and film productions including The Green Hornet and Enter the Dragon. He was an ardent student of Wing Chun Kung Fu and developed and successfully spread his own style, Jeet Kune Do. Bruce Lee passed away in 1973 at the age of 33. He left behind a legacy to be admired and honored. With his superb talent in martial arts and in action movies, he was able to revolutionize Asian culture, perceptions of the martial arts, and perceptions of Asian people in the western hemisphere forever. He is one of the only movie stars who became more famous after his death. His legacy will never die.
2) THE BATTLE OF COLUMBUS HALL of HONOR Dedicated to the memory of SMK Founder Byung Jick Ro: The Battle of Columbus started in 1976 by SGM Joon P. Choi with the idea of promoting true diversity in the martial arts community. The Battle of Columbus offered various martial arts disciplines and their students to explore their skills and to develop a family-like atmosphere among different martial arts styles. The Battle of Columbus steadily grew in size and quality, and it became a true international martial arts event by producing many Olympians and world champions. In 2001, Battle of Columbus joined with Arnold Sports Festival as a Sports partner and grew to over 4,000 competitors and over 10,000 spectators. In 2015, in conjunction with The Bruce Lee and Martial Arts Hall of Honor Induction, SGM Choi decided to honor masters, competitors, coaches, promoters, and volunteers who dedicated more than 10 years of service to develop the Battle of Columbus into a wonderful martial arts championship. The Battle of Columbus Hall of Honor will be dedicated to the memory of the Father of Modern Taekwondo Supreme Grandmaster Byung Jick Ro. 3) The BRUCE LEE HALL of HONOR - Legends of Martial Arts: The Bruce Lee and Legends of Martial Arts Hall of Honor & Museum is designed to honor pioneers, grandmasters, masters, instructors, and all other martial arts leaders and supporters who have a proven record of pioneering, developing, and promoting the various oriental martial arts such as Taekwondo, Karate, Kungfu/Wushu, Taichi, Hapkido, Aikido, Judo, Gumdo, Jujitsu, Kimoodo Healing arts to their region, state, nation, and the world from the 1940s to the present day. Referee - Minimum age of 31 A. Actively refereed for more than 10 years in championships with history and general recognition B. Best demonstrates responsibility, integrity, and excellence in refereeing martial arts events. C. Outstanding achievement and inspiration of athletes D. Dedicated to facilitating the advancement of competitive sport martial arts. E. The nominees are required to meet at least the following criteria: a) Continuous training and refereeing in martial arts. b) Distinct martial arts philosophy and upholds high ethical standards. c) Demonstrates concern for all-around development of athletes and instills guidelines reflecting responsible conduct beyond the competitive arena. d) Continuously applies and improves relevant training theory and referee techniques. e) Demonstrates respect for officials, athletes, and parents and teaches a philosophy of sportsmanship
