Modesto has won the first two games of the series earning victories of 6-1 on Friday and 1-0 yesterday. Mark Reyes (4-10, 5.76) is slated to start on the mound for the Giants tonight. Offensive Woes Through the first five games of the homestand (1-4 record), the Giants have scored a total of just six runs while batting only.194 as a team. San Jose has scored three runs or fewer in nine consecutive games. The Giants enter tonight s contest having not scored in 17 consecutive innings. Lost 6 Of 8 The Giants have lost six out of their last eight games overall. Yesterday s defeat dropped San Jose to a season-high tying 13 games below.500 overall (37-50). San Jose was held to just six hits in the contest all singles and had just one inning with a runner in scoring position. Four Modesto pitchers Spencer Herrmann, Joey Strain, Lukas Schiraldi and Matt Walker combined on the shutout. Albert Suarez, who joined the Giants before the game, started on the mound and tossed three scoreless innings with one hit allowed. Mike Connolly suffered the loss despite allowing just one run over six solid innings of long relief. Connolly surrendered seven hits, walked one and struck out one. Streaky Team San Jose has been a streaky team of late. The Giants won a season-high four games in a row from June 11-14 before dropping a season-high seven consecutive games from June 15-24 (all against Visalia). The long skid was followed by a stretch of winning five out of six games (June 25-30) before losing six of eight (July 1-8). Aramis Garcia Aramis Garcia has hit five home runs over his last 11 games and now ranks third in the California League with 13 homers this season. Garcia is also second in the league in slugging percentage (.506) and fourth in RBI s (53). At Muni The Giants are a league-worst 14-30 at home this season (23-20 on the road). San Jose is batting.242 as a team and averaging 3.7 runs per game at home this season compared to a.267 AVG and 5.2 runs per game on the road. The Giants have won consecutive home games only twice this season: April 13-14 and June 26-27 (both against Stockton). Futures Game Bryan Reynolds is slated to play in the Futures Game today in Miami (1 PM PDT on MLB Network) as part of the MLB All-Star festivities. Reynolds was San Francisco s top draft pick last year (second round) and is currently rated the #3 prospect in the Giants organization according to MLB.com. Close Calls Last night s loss dropped the Giants to a league-worst 7-15 in one-run games this season. Tough Schedule The Giants are currently in the midst of a stretch (June 30-July 26) playing 22 out of 25 games against Modesto and Rancho Cucamonga the teams with the top two overall records in the league (Nuts 51-36, Quakes 46-41). Howard Hits Ryan Howard is currently tied for fourth in the California League in batting average (.323) and second in hits (103). He has 32 multi-hit games this season (in 76 games played): 21 two-hit games, nine three-hit games and two four-hit games. Howard s month-by-month batting averages: April (.323), May (.315), June (.348), July (.276). Howard is also batting a team-best.366 with runners in scoring position. Bumgarner Rehab Start Monday Four-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion Madison Bumgarner is scheduled to make his second rehab start with San Jose in tomorrow s series finale against Modesto. Bumgarner started last Wednesday s game for the SJ Giants versus Rancho Cucamonga and was tagged for nine runs on nine hits (four homers) in four innings. Bumgarner, who last appeared in a major league game on April 19, is returning from a left shoulder AC sprain and bruised ribs. Bumgarner made five starts for San Jose as a 19-year old in 2009 and was 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA.
