January meeting Our monthly Chapter meeting will be next Tuesday, January 5th, 6:30pm, at the Ivie Lodge, Camp Glisson. This month our program will be presented by three of our own Chapter members. Greg Grover, Ron Fuller, and Gordon Brand fished the San Juan River this past fall, and will be presenting a program on their trip. We will also have raffle tickets available for the Council Dream Trip. The winner gets a one week trip for two to a private cabin in Island Park, Idaho, just outside the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Included is food, lodging, flies, and guided fishing. This is the annual Council event to raise money for Trout Camp. Our Chapter is responsible for selling 100 tickets at $10 each, and we have three months get this done. The drawing will be held at the Hoot On the Hooch in March. In the past these tickets have gone quickly. See me Tuesday to get your supply. Let's all plan to be at Ivie Lodge on the 5th. It's January. It's dark, and there isn't anything on TV to match what we have going on in the Chapter. Call a friend and come join us. Thanks,

PROJECT HEALING WATERS THE PRICE FOR FREEDOM CAN BE VIEWED AT THE VA CLINIC A reminder that we have a need for volunteers for our Project Healing Waters program at the Oakwood VA Clinic in Beaufort. more volunteers are needed if we expect this great program to succeed. We are planning fishing trips and will need volunteers for help on the water. OUR PROGRAM RUNS THE FIRST AND THIRD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH We have partnered with Foot Hills Chapter and OPERATION RIVERS 2 RECOVERY headed up by Scott Kesler thru our PHW program. Scott is very good at getting Vets out on the water and fishing, we have had the opportunity to lend a hand water side on some private trophy waters this spring. Some great opportunities are coming up this fall to put together a great outdoor fishing program. We will be starting a rod building class for the vets in the near future, kits are on order

CONSERVATION...2016 stream improvement Chapter work days serve two purposes. First, it represents the translation at the chapter level of the TU mission to restore and maintain fresh water streams. Second, it an opportunity for members of the chapter to bond around a common interest. Everyone comes away from work days with a great sense of accomplishment. Each year the Council and GADNR meet and identify projects require the support of local chapters. For 2016 two projects need the support of members of the Gold Rush Chapter: June 18 on Jones Creek. This is an important work day as Gold Rush is the lead chapter. That means we need as many members as possible to participate. We will also provide the food. The Tailwater Chapter will support us in this effort. This is a good project for us as Jones Creek is the special conservation project that the chapter has adopted. Anyone who has fished Jones knows it is a special place. We will plan some other work days on Jones as chapter initiatives during the year. July 9 on Lovinggood Creek. Cohutta chapter has the lead with Gold Rush in support. This is a neat Brook Trout stream located near Springer Mountain. We did some work on this creek a couple of years ago. It is a good chance to explore a new place to fish and see some of the good water around Noontootla Creek at the same time. These dates represent some half days when the chapter members can come together, have some fun and do something
Essay on TU Jim Harvey UCCTU president, set the tone for the day by reading an essay from Mick Mick McCortle, National Leadership Council Chair, TU National: What we're about is not measured in the "resume virtues" of numbers of members increased nor dollars brought in nor stream miles restored nor helping make fishing better, though they may all be adjuncts. What we are about is a good thing, a "eulogy virtue," a lasting contribution to making this a better world, a world in which the healing and nurturing value of nature, of cold, clean, life-giving water, becomes more likely through our toil and sweat and advocacy and battles against the forces that would waste, pollute or besmirch this very essence of life. What compels and animates our efforts is the knowledge, the feeling deep in our very souls, that we are doing a good and abiding thing, an ennobling there in, a thing that will live and last beyond us, a legacy not measured in resume virtues but rather eulogy virtues, an immortal contribution to our world and the generations that will follow.
