COSTUME BUDGET It is important to recognise that students involved in dance will at various times be required to purchase costumes to participate in the various public performances, eisteddfods and end of year concert. Dance is a form of art and therefore Performance will form a major part of learning to dance. As most of our costumes are purchased to reduce the amount of sewing, parents should ensure that they have budgeted for the purchase of costumes throughout the year.

This gives parents, family and friends an opportunity to enjoy a night of dance, performed by the students, in an array of colourful costumes and to the sounds of enjoyable music.

Funk Classes Funk classes offer students the opportunity to learn great dance moves, develop a funky performance style, increase technique and boost confidence. Choreography varies from lyrical to hard hitting, with routines that you would expect to see in video clips. With a friendly, positive energy - be inspired, get an awesome workout and learn some cool moves! Contemporary Classes Contemporary dance places a heavy emphasis on the connection between mind and body, with dancers being encouraged to explore their emotions through dances that push against traditional boundaries. Our Contemporary classes are proving to be a popular choice for our students. A Contemporary dance class can often fuse multiple dance disciplines together. You could find yourself dancing a routine that has elements of African dance, Tango, Salsa, Jazz, Ballet and so on. The beauty of it is that it allows a freer dance, which can be initiated by music or by an internal theme or inspiration. During the contemporary dance classes, students will concentrate on modern dance techniques fused with improvisation, whilst learning the importance of core strength to enhance their performance. Additional classes to be run in 2017 include: Strength and Technique Class A program that develops the training of muscle memory to improve students understanding of core stability, weight placement and alignment well as improve students technique and obtain their personal best. Students will need to bring a fit ball and a small ball, preferably with spikes. Both props are available from Kmart. Junior and Senior classes available from Level 1 and above. Class times to be advised pending interest in this class. Adult Tap and Contemporary Classes For those adults who love to dance, adult Tap and Contemporary classes are now available. Open classes for all levels of expertise. Beginners are very welcome.

CSTD Jazz and Tap syllabus enables students to develop a high level of proficiency in performance ability. Jazz Syllabus The CSTD Jazz syllabus consists of 10 levels, which is updated regularly to reflect both the latest musical trends and dance techniques. The syllabus includes lyrical choreography as a sub-style for the older grades. Tap Syllabus The CSTD Tap Syllabus is a new approach to class structure will allow for more variety and adaptability as well as a strong focus technique and performance. The aim of this new syllabus is to offer our students new challenges and the opportunity to learn an extensive range of new tap steps and a variety of dances routines each term. Examinations Mount Isa School of Dance offer CSTD Jazz and Tap examinations. Examinations offer students the challenge of working towards a goal, and a sense of accomplishment on achieving that goal. To be entered for an examination, students must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principals of movement, and the fundamentals of their syllabus at their current level of study. The following levels are offered: Jazz 1 (45 min/week) Jazz 2 (1 hour/week) Jazz 3 (1 hour/week) Jazz 4 (1 hour/week) Jazz 5 (1 hour/week) Jazz 6 (1 hour/week) CSTD Syllabus Jazz and Tap Examinations Tap 1 (45 min/week) Tap 2 (1 hour/week) Tap 3 (1 hour/week) Tap 4 (1 hour/week) Tap 5 (1 hour/week) Tap 6 (1 hour/week) Jazz 7 (2 x 1 hour/week) Tap 7 (1 hour/week) Kinder Tap for 4& 5 year olds, Beginner & Junior Jazz and Tap classes for 6 to 7 year olds will also be offered. There is no examinations offered for these age groups. Royal Academy of Dance - Classical Ballet Classical ballet is exciting, demanding and inspiring. For ballet to retain its vigour it is vital to have professional classical ballet teachers, equipped with internationally recognised qualifications, imparting their knowledge and love of dance to future generations. The Royal Academy of Dance is the largest examining and teacher education organisation for classical ballet in the world. With over 17,000 members, its influence has spread to over 84 countries and it has a network of international offices and representatives. There are currently 1,500 students in full-time or part-time teacher training with the Academy. Each year, the Academy Examination Syllabus is taught to more than 280,000 students. The safe and correct training for your child is one of our major concerns, which is why the RAD Grade Syllabus has been devised with great care. It progresses a child in stages, demanding no more of a young body than it can easily cope with. Not only is this syllabus great fun for children to dance, it also helps develop coordination, fitness and a sense of rhythm, musicality and expression, as well as promoting self-discipline and boosting confidence. Examinations Ballet is no more competitive than any other activity, and our examinations are simply setting goals towards which children can work. For the students, examinations offer a challenge and a great sense of achievement; for the parents, they give an indication of their child s progress and for the teacher, they present proof of their expertise and professionalism. For the Academy, they are a means of upholding and improving the standards of dance training throughout the world. Students must be able to show a basic understanding of the principals of movement and the fundamentals of classical ballet at their current level of study to be entered by the teacher for an examination. Assessments The Royal Academy of Dance only recently introduced the assessment. The assessment is available to those students who for various reasons and at a particular time may not be able to cope with the formal examination requirements. For these students, assessments offer programs of work which can be matched to their physical ability or pace of learning, leading to a sense of achievement and self esteem, which can equal that of those passing examinations.

Pre-School Dance Curriculum (Kinder & Toddler Dance) The Kinder Dance syllabus will be based on the Pre-School Dance Curriculum developed by the Royal Academy of Dance. This approach emphasises enjoyment and expression through dance. Graded Syllabus Younger students begin with the graded syllabus, which is great fun to learn and dance. The syllabus involves learning classical ballet, free movement (contemporary style) and character (traditional dance steps from foreign countries ie. Hungary, Poland and Russia) dance styles. Pre-Primary Primary Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 Grade 4 Grade 5 Older students who wish to study dance purely for pleasure can continue to follow the Academy's graded syllabus; Grade 6 The following classical ballet levels are offered Toddler and Kinder Dance 1 lesson / week 1/2 hour lesson Pre-Primary Ballet 1 lesson / week 3/4 hour lesson Primary Ballet 1 lessons / week 3/4 hour lesson Grade 1 to 2 Ballet 2 lessons / week 2 3/4 hour lessons Grade 3 to 5 Ballet 2 lessons / week 2 1 hour lessons Grade 6, 7 and 8 Ballet 2 lessons / week 2 x 1 hour lessons Intermediate Foundation at least 4 lessons / week 4 1/2 hours/week Intermediate at least 4 lessons / week 4 1/2 hours/week Advanced Foundation at least 4 lessons / week 4 1/2 hours/week Advanced 1/2 at least 4 lessons / week 4 1/2 hours/week - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Grade students are to arrive at least 5 minutes before the commencement of their lesson and are to be collected immediately after. Grade 7 Grade 8. Vocational Graded Syllabus Alternatively, students over the age of 11 who wish to study ballet more seriously, possibly with a view to pursuing a career in dance or dance teaching, may follow the Academy s major vocational syllabus. It develops technique, strength and artistry to the very highest levels, producing dancers who can then adapt with ease to the demands of any dance style. Intermediate Foundation Intermediate Advanced Foundation Advanced 1 Advanced 2 IMPORTANT NOTE Grade 6 students and above are expected to attend a class of a higher level as often as possible. This is compulsory for all major students. No additional fees will be charged for these extra lessons.
