Responsibility And Judgment SPRING LESSON FOCUS: Life Skills Respect Courtesy Responsibility & Judgment Honesty Sportsmanship Perseverance & Confidence Discuss And Observe In golf, it is important to demonstrate responsibility and judgment. It is your responsibility to have the proper equipment, understand rules and etiquette, respect and care for your property, as well as the property of others. You demonstrate good judgment when you act responsibly towards yourself and others. Golf Fundementals Distance Response Target Awareness Get Ready To Swing: Posture Grip Alignment Body Balance Discuss And Observe It is important to prepare for every shot and part of that preparation includes your posture when you address the ball. Good posture will help you to maintain an affective swing path throughout your swing. Class Objective After completing multiple classes on Core Lesson 3, PLAYers should be able to: State the meaning of responsibility and judgment. Understand the importance of The First Tee Code of Conduct and that it emphasizes responsibility and judgment and the importance of these core values. Understand (3-hole), demonstrate (6-hole) and exhibit (9-hole) that they keep up with the pace of play. Understand (3-hole), demonstrate (6-hole) and exhibit (9-hole) that they take care of the practice areas and course by repairing ball marks, replacing divots, raking bunkers, etc. Understand (3-hole), demonstrate (6-hole) and exhibit (9-hole) that they take care of his/her/others golf equipment, as well as anything that belongs to others. Understand (3-hole), demonstrate (6-hole) and exhibit (9-hole) that they make healthy choices at the golf course, such as being physically active, drinking water and eating healthy snacks. Split class into 2 teams and line each team behind a lane. 2. The first runner sprints to the end of the lane and back; picking up the tennis ball and handing it to the next runner. 3. The next runner sprints to the end of the lane and back; placing ball at end of lane. Slap hand of next runner to send that runner. 4. Repeat steps 3 & 4 until all runners have run the race. Activity #2 Hazard Review 1. Cones 2. Half-cones 3. Red, White and Yellow ropes 4. SNAG Launchers 5. Tennis Balls 6. SNAG Tees 7. Noodles & Spikes 1. Set-up a hole with three types of hazards: white line (OB), red line (lateral) and yellow line (water). 2. Each hole will have a teeing ground, a safety zone, an on-deck circle, a green and a hole. 3. Use 4 cones to mark the 4 corners of the Teeing Ground. 4. Use the ½ cones to create a safety zone a safe distance from the Teeing Ground. 5. Place a hula hoop just outside the safety zone to serve as the on-deck circle. 6. Use rope to create a Green 7. Use the noodles & spikes to create a wicket (hole). Purpose: Learn about hazards, penalties and options 1. Discuss options, penalty, and procedure. 2. White Line (Out of Bounds): a. Option: only option is to replay the ball from spot of original hit. b. Penalty: 1 stroke c. Procedure: place ball as near as possible to where ball was originally hit from; if ball was hit off tee, it may be re-teed. 3. Red Line (Lateral): a. Option: 1) ball may be played from hazard without penalty, 2) ball may be placed one club length from point where ball entered hazard, or 3) ball may be played from spot nearest to original hit. b. Penalty: 1 stroke unless ball is played from hazard. c. Procedure: lay a club from your bag (usually driver) angled away from the hole; mark end with a tee. Stand outside drop area, extend your arm and drop ball; if ball stops outside drop area or closer to the hole, re-drop. 4. Yellow Line (Water): a. Option: 1) ball may be played from hazard without penalty, 2) ball may be placed behind the point where ball entered hazard, or 3) ball may be played from spot nearest to original hit. b. Penalty: 1 stroke unless ball is played from hazard. c. Procedure: drop the ball behind the point of entry into the hazard. The point of entry must be directly in line with the drop point and the flag. 5. After walk-through, return to tee box and play hole. Set up hitting stations; each wide enough so players can swing clubs safely. Use cones and halfcones to define station. 2. Use half-cones to set up a safety zone 3 yds behind hitting stations. 3. Place a hula hoop in safety zone to serve as on-deck circle. 4. Place hula hoops at 10 and 20 yards in front of each hitting station. 5. Place Bullseyes at 30 yards in front of hitting stations. Purpose: Practice setup(posture), swing and target awareness. 1. Review safety procedures. 2. Discuss importance of posture in the setup and throughout the swing. 3. Form a single file line behind the on-deck circle. 4. Have on-deck PLAYer move safely to a hitting station. 5. Each player will get 3 balls to hit each turn. 6.
