Expect rigorous exercise during hunts. It is highly recommended that hunters realistically assess their physical abilities before applying. Selected Wichita Mountains NWR elk applicants must attend a pre-hunt briefing at 10:00 a.m. on the day preceding their hunt at the refuge Visitor Center. Minimum age requirement is 18 years of age. Hunters have the responsibility to remove their harvested elk from the field and are strongly encouraged to bring a helper to assist with the removal of carcass from hunt area. Firearm requirements are centerfire only rifles of.270 caliber or larger. All handguns are prohibited. There is a five (5) shells per day limit. Up to three (3) hunt choices may be selected. These hunts occur on private property. The Wildlife Dept. does not maintain a record of available private lands. It is the responsibility of all successful applicants to contact landowners and obtain written permission prior to hunting on private lands and the hunter must have this written permission in possession while hunting. Private land access fees may be charged by the landowner. Hunt begins after briefing and ends noon on Sunday. C) Physically Challenged Archery Hunt - Applicants must have a permanent disability to the extent that they cannot use a conventional longbow (as certified by a physician licensed to practice in Oklahoma or bordering state), or a non-ambulatory or motor vehicle permit. A person who qualifies to use a crossbow shall have in his possession while in the field, and present at hunt check-in, written evidence of such certification. In addition, at McAlester AAP, selected applicants must report at 10 a.m. Thursday preceding their hunt to attend a pre-hunt briefing. Failure to attend this briefing will result in cancellation. Hunters younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Hunter may bring an assistant. Assistants will be allowed to transport hunters to and from the field and/or stands, but will not be allowed to hunt. Assistance will be provided for others as needed. Background checks will be conducted on all successful applicants and helpers prior to entry. Hunts may be canceled at any time. A $40 federal user fee is required to participate in the hunt.

D) Hunters are required to attend a mandatory pre-hunt briefing at 11 a.m. on the first day of the hunt at the Tishomingo NWR Refuge Headquarters. All handguns are prohibited at Tishomingo NWR. E) Maximum of two (2) applicants per application. F) Minimum age requirement is 18 years. G) Hunters are required to attend a mandatory meeting at refuge headquarters on Friday. On Little River NWR, hunters are required to attend a mandatory meeting at refuge headquarters at 1 p.m. Friday, and hunting will begin following the briefing. H) Selected applicants for deer archery hunts are required to report at 10 a.m. Thursday preceding their hunt to attend a pre-hunt briefing and check-in. Failure to attend briefing will result in cancellation. Hunts end at noon Sunday. Only traditional type bows (long bows or recurve bows) allowed. Minimum bow weight of 40 pounds, at 28 inches of draw. Bare bows, no attachments. COMPOUND BOWS AND CROSSBOWS ARE PROHIBITED. Hunters younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Background checks will be conducted on all successful applicants prior to entry. Hunts may be canceled at any time. A $40 federal user fee is required to participate in the hunt. I) Other hunting seasons will be open on the WMA during this hunt period. L) Sequoyah Resort Park hunters will be charged a $30 state park user fee, collected at check-in, in addition to the applicable permit and license fees. Hunt will end at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. M) One either-sex permit may be substituted for an antlerless-only permit for a limited number of applicants by random drawing at the hunt site on the day of the hunt. N) Selected applicants must attend a pre-hunt briefing at 10 a.m. the day preceding their hunt at the Visitor Center. SPECIAL NOTE: Applicants should be prepared for extremely rough terrain and expect rigorous exercise during hunts. Firearm requirements are the same as statewide deer gun season (centerfire only). All handguns are prohibited. There is a limit of five (5) shells per day. O) Applicants must apply individually. No group applications. Q) Hunters are required to attend a mandatory pre-hunt briefing at noon on the first day of the hunt at refuge headquarters. Hunt begins after briefing and ends a half-hour after sunset on the last day of the hunt. R) Hunters younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. U) Hunt begins at noon Friday and ends at noon Sunday. No-shows will not be filled; permit holders only. W) This is an extremely physically demanding hunt in rough terrain with dense brush. Y) Hunters are required to attend a mandatory meeting at refuge headquarters on the first day of the hunt. On Salt Plains NWR and Sequoyah NWR, hunters with disabilities requiring special accommodations should only apply for Deer Hunts for Persons with Non-ambulatory or Motor Vehicle Permit (Category 4). Z) Hunters are required to attend a mandatory pre-hunt briefing at 5:30 a.m. the first day of the hunt at refuge headquarters. Hunt begins after briefing and ends a half-hour after sunset on the second day. Category 4 - Deer Hunts for People with a Non-ambulatory or Motor Vehicle Permit issued by ODWC Only people who hold either a non-ambulatory permit or motor vehicle permit may apply for Category 4 either individually or with up to three additional hunters who possess one of these permits (except Salt Plains NWR, which is limited to one applicant only). Up to three (3) hunt choices may be selected.
