BYC Baseball Majors Parents Meeting Jack Dickinson BYC Baseball Commissioner www.brandywineyouthclub.com Jim Jordan- Majors Blue GM Pat Carlin- Majors Gold GM
Topics Majors Program Overview Player Clinics, Evaluations Team Drafts- Blue Team Drafts- Gold Summer Baseball Notes Cal Ripken Notes and General Information 2
Overview What is Majors Baseball? Intramural and Tournament/Travel. Leagues comprised of 11s- 12s for 2013. Blue Division Field dimensions-50 mound, 70 bases. 6-7 teams, 12 players per team. CR Rule- no team can have > eight 12s. Each team comprised of four 11s. Different rules- leads, pitching from stretch, balks, etc. 3
Overview What is Majors Baseball? Gold Division Field dimensions-46 pitchers mound, 60 bases. Eight teams, 12 players per team. Similarly, teams are comprised of some 11s and 12s. Gold, Blue Intramural teams play within their own division. Intramurals will still have playoffs. Number of teams based on registration, historical data on the proper balance teams/ players in each division. Why not all Blue? CR mandates that if > 10 teams, we must have two divisions. Some players not ready for 50/70 play. Gold, 46/60 is more appropriate for another season in some cases. 4
Clinics, Evaluations Prior season ratings- intramural coaches rate players at the end of the season for use in following year. Indoor clinics, evaluations- used to further update player ratings (e.g. new players, improved players, etc.). Ratings & Evaluations- quantify hitting, fielding, throwing, running, baseball IQ/ intangibles. Ratings and indoor evaluations used to establish ratings for use in both the Blue and Gold drafts. Coaches- attend evaluations. Evaluations- set for Saturday 3/2. 1. Likely 4 evaluation sessions 2. Broken up into 11s and 12s; A K, L Z 3. Time assignments TBD 5
Drafts Blue division Coaches provided with list of all 12s players as well as 11s players. 12s drafted first until all Blue teams have reached eight players per team. 11s drafted until teams are completed (12/ team). In a seven team blue division, (56) players will be 12s; (28) players will be 11s. Tentatively set for 1 st, 2 nd week of March. 6
Drafts Gold Division Coaches draft from remaining list of 12s and 11s players. Draft 12s until all players have been exhausted and evenly distributed to Gold division teams (parity). Draft 11s until completion of available players. 7
Drafts General Notes Drafts attended by executive committee members to assist with process. Coaches, GMs do their best to ensure correct placement. Cal Ripken limits 12s and therefore limits 11s in 50/70. It s not an exact science but ratings and evaluation notes provide the best guidance. 8
Beyond the Draft Coaches Blue Head Coaches- typically 12s player parent/ family. Blue assistants- typically 12s/ 11s player parent/ family. Blue Teams Set; Gold Draft After completion of Blue draft, players are contacted by coaches regarding placement. Gold draft conducted after blue draft is settled. Gold draft can t begin until coaches are identified. If interested in coaching, regardless of division, please let us know 9
Summer Baseball All-Stars, Districts From the Blue division, the following teams can be formed for summer district play: 12s 50/70 12s 46/60 11s 50/70 11s 46/60 Fielding (4) AS teams is common but not guaranteed. Factors: Interest- is there enough players interested in participating? Competitiveness- other non 50/70 clubs put there top teams in at 46/60. The competition will be tough in all divisions. We need to evaluate the age group to ensure the participants will have a good experience. 10
