Beach Dodgeball Rules 1. Overall Idea Beach Dodgeball is a fun game in the sand of 5 on 5 action where you try to knock the other team out of the game by hitting them with a ball while they simultaneously do the same to you. You can catch the other teams ball and put them out and also bring in one of your own players. Last team with a person standing wins the game. 2. Equipment Beach Bums Sports Complex will provide the five dodgeballs (8.5 ) needed for play. The lines will be the same as a doubles size beach volleyball court, 52 6 x 26 3. 3. Team Composition -- There are 5 players on each team, 2 must be female. You must have at least 3 present to start the game with 1 female. A player must play for at least 2 weeks of league play (12 games) in order to play in finals. Extra players can line the back line area and help retrieve balls to place back on the back line for play. 4. Beginning a Game Paper, Rock, Scissors for choice of side. The referee will say Dodgeball to begin play when both teams are lined up on their backline. 5. Format Games will be timed by the referee at 8 minutes each, best of 3 games to win the match. There will be a 2 minute break between each game with a new match starting every 30 minutes. You will have 2 matches each night. Finals night will be single elimination, best 2 of 3 games, until the final match which will be the best of 5 games. 6. Rules of Play a.) Primarily self-refereed, honor rules if you get hit or not. There is 1 referee at the centerline to help with this but he/she cannot see everything in this fast paced game. Referees will start the game, confirm hits and catches as best as able, settle disputes in real time, and time the game for 8 minute maximum. The team with the most members at 8 minutes is the winner. If there is a tie, a 1 on 1 showdown will commence as below. b.) There are 5 balls, split into 2 even groups near the ends of the centerline with one ball in the center. During the opening rush (when the game starts), you may only grab the balls to your right and the center ball is up for grabs by either team. You have to return to the back line before you can throw a ball. During the opening rush, your feet are allowed to cross the centerline. You cannot hit the opposing player with your body to obtain the ball or you are out. c.) You are out if: 1) you step on or over a sideline or centerline; 2) a thrown live ball hits your body; and 3) you throw a live ball and it is caught by an opponent. d.) A thrown live ball can only hit out 1 player. Thrown balls that hit the sand, other balls, or other players before hitting the opponent are considered dead balls, and are ineligible to hit players out. You may catch a ball that has hit another player but not the sand and the thrower will be out instead of the hit player. Head shots actually put out the thrower unless the dodger ducks into the ball. e.) You may block a thrown ball with a held ball. However, if you drop the blocking ball during the act of blocking, or if you fail to make a clean block (as in the thrown ball still ends up hitting or grazing your body afterwards), you are out. f.) If you are out, line up on the back line from left to right in the order you got out (think of it as being in a resurrection line). If your teammate catches a ball, the player at the start of your team s resurrection line comes back into play after touching the back line g.) Players that are out are allowed to retrieve balls for their team and place them on the back line (do not hand or throw them to your teammates). If no players are out, the players that are in can retrieve the balls on their half of the centerline but must exit the court and enter the court through the back line. h.) You can only hold a ball for 10 seconds, afterwards, it will be considered dead. The other team is responsible for counting out the 10 seconds aloud. Dead balls need to be rolled over immediately to the other team. If you block a ball with a dead ball, you are out. i.) Showdown -- If the game comes down to 1 player per side or a tie when 8 minutes is up, "Showdown" comes into effect. The game is paused, each remaining player, or one representative if a tie, gets two balls, one ball is lined up at the center of the centerline, and the centerline is dissolved. The first player to get the other player out wins. j.) Substitutes -- Substitute players can come in only in case of an injury during the game or otherwise at the start of a new game. Have fun, shake hands, make friends and be spirited. Dodgeball!

Spikeball Rules 1. Overall Idea 2 on 2 action will occur around a round trampoline set. After the serve, there will be no sides or boundaries. Your goal is to score points by volleying the ball to your teammate who will then spike the ball into the net to where the other team is unable to successfully return it. 2. Equipment Players should play barefoot or with socks on, no shoes allowed. You should use the spikeball set at Beach Bums Sports Complex, this is a professional set. 3. Team Composition -- Each team must consist of two players. There are no gender requirements. 3. Beginning a Game Paper, Rock, Scissors for choice of serve/receive. 4. Serving a. The server must be six feet away from the net while serving and must contact the ball at least from a 6 ft plane away from the net with at least one foot in contact with the ground. b. The server can either get a clean serve, a fault, or an infraction. Play on if there is a clean serve. The defending team can call a fault and force the second serve if they wish. The defending team should call an infraction if it occurs as it will be in their favor to do so. c. Fault -- occurs if the server tosses the ball less than 4 inches high or higher than their outstretched hand, if the serve hits the net and the rim on the opposite side of the server (pocket shot), breaks the six foot plane when contact with the ball is made, hits the serve higher than the outstretched hand of the defender, catches the toss, or misses the ball. d. Infraction occurs when the server doesn t get a clean serve after a first fault, hits the rim directly, misses the entire set, bounces on the net twice, or hits himself or his partner with the ball on the serve. e. Only the defensive player opposite the server may play the serve. f. Both soft and hard serves are allowed. g. After each point scored, the serving team switches positions, the defensive team stays in the same position. Thus, you alternate people that you serve to. The server continues serving until they lose the point. 5. Contacting the Ball -- Each team gets up to three touches to return the ball off of the net. Touches must alternate between teammates. You may use any part of your body as one touch. The ball may not contact two parts of your body at the same time unless it is the first hit of the possession and the contacts are simultaneous. If the player touches the ball twice consecutively, their team loses the point. You cannot carry or throw the ball, it must be struck. 6. Scoring -- Games are won when the winning team reaches a score of 11 points with a hard cap at 11 for league play, win by 2 on finals night. Each match is best 2 of 3 games. If a third game is needed, it is played to 7 points with a cap at 7. Switch sides and first server after the first game and paper/rock/scissors again if the third game is needed. Points are scored when the ball hits the ground, the ball bounces on the net twice, the ball hits the rim, or the server commits 2 faults or an infraction. 7. Replays a. The defensive play must make an effort to stay out of the offensive player s way. If the defensive player interferes accidentally, the offensive player may call hinder and the point will be replayed. If the defensive player interferes on purpose, the defensive player loses the point. b. If an object or person interferes with play, or a ball is in the playing field that could affect play, a replay should occur. c. If there are any disputes, replay the point.

Badminton Rules 1. Overall Idea The serving team hits a birdie to either player (men serve men in coed) on the opposite team who will hit it back over the net to the serving team until one of the teams fails to get it back on the other side and inbounds. 2 Team Composition Each team will consist of 2 players, if coed, there should be one female and one male. 3. Equipment You are welcome to use the equipment at Beach Bums Sports Complex but if you damage a racquet, you will have to pay $50 to replace it. You can bring your own racquet and birdies if you wish as long as the other team agrees to play with them, otherwise the facility birdies will be the default birdies. Plastic birdies with a slight weight attached to the cork are recommended due to the wind outdoors 4 Beginning a game Paper, rock, scissors for choice of serve/side. Switch sides and first server for the second game. 5. Format Doubles only. Best 2 out of 3 games to win a match. Games are to 11 with a hard cap at 11. Third game if needed is to 7 with a hard cap at 7. Paper, rock, scissors again in third game to determine side/serve and switch sides when the leading score is at 6 points. Each team has a single one minute time out per game. The teams will do their own refereeing and will replay points if there is a dispute that cannot be resolved. 6. Scoring Rally scoring, every time there is a serve, there is a point scored by the winning side. The winning team serves the next point. 7. Serving Beach Badminton has a slightly shorter court than regular Badminton so the service line is not present. There are also no sides that you must serve to (unless in coed, the men should serve the men). You can serve from either side you wish or as close to or far from the net as you wish and to either side. You can serve short or long. You must strike the birdie below waist level with the head of the racket below the handle of the racket. If the birdie touches the net and goes over, it is legal, there is no let serve. The service order is set before the game. If the serving team wins the point, the same server will serve till that server s team loses the point. The other teammate will serve when that team wins the next point. 8. Lines The size of the Beach Badminton court is 39 ft by 16.4 ft (indoor court is 44 x20 ). The net is at 5 ft high. If any part of the birdie hits the line, it is considered in. The lines should be straightened before the serve if they are crooked as the spot of the line when the birdie hits it is what is considered. There will be no referee for the leagues so it is an honor system between teams for line calling. Any debatable calls should be replayed. 9. Referee -- League play will be self refereed with the honor system. If there is a questionable call, replay the point.

Beach Tennis Rules 1. Overall Idea Beach Tennis is a volley game where the ball does not touch the sand unlike tennis where it is allowed to bounce. The court is the size of a doubles beach volleyball court, smaller than tennis. The net is at 5 6 high instead of 3 high. There are no centerlines on the court so you can serve wherever you want and to either opponent (men serve underhand in coed). A beach tennis paddle is hard and has no strings. Your goal is to have the beach tennis ball (which is softer than a usual tennis ball) to hit the sand in bounds on the other side of the net to win a point. 2. Team composition Each team will consist of 2 players, if coed, there should be one female and one male. 3. Equipment You are welcome to use Beach Bums Sports Complex Tennis Paddles and balls but are encouraged to get your own paddle for higher level play. Beach Bums Sports Complex will provide 3 balls per league night. 4. Beginning a game Paper, rock, scissors for choice of serve or side. 5. Format 2 on 2 game. Men s, Women s, or Coed. Men must serve underhand in coed. Games are played to 4 points with one server for each game, alternating servers each game just like in tennis. The fourth point wins regardless if it is tied 3-3. For league play, matches will be the best of 5 games and a new match will start about every 30 minutes. You will have two matches per night. Finals night will be the best of 5 games and the final match will be the best of 7 games. 6. Scoring if the ball hits the line or inside the lines on your side of the court, the other team gets a point. If the ball hits the net, no matter on the serve or during the rally, it must be played if it goes over, ie no let serve. If a person contacts the net with their body or paddle, the other team scores a point. You cannot follow through a swing on the opponent s side of the net but can block at the net if you wish too. If a person touches the ball with a part of their body instead of their paddle, the other team scores a point. 7. Serving You can serve over or underhand (except for men must serve underhand in coed doubles). You must serve from behind the backline. Your foot must not touch or be under the line or the other team gets the point. You may jump serve but must contact the ball before landing in the court and cannot do a running jump serve. You do not get multiple tosses of the ball, only one per serve. You do not have a fault serve as in tennis, only one serve per point. You can serve from either side and to either side you wish. A serve that hits the net and goes over and lands inbounds is a good serve. 8. Lines You will play on doubles volleyball court lines that are 52 6 by 26 3. The net in the middle of the court will be 5 6 tall. A ball that hits the line is considered in. It is each team s responsibility to pop the line straight as often as needed before the point begins as the line is the line once the point starts. 9. Referee League play will be self refereed with the honor system. If there is a questionable call, replay the point.
