WARWICK FARM BARRIER TRIALS Tuesday 5 December 2017 Heat 13: 3YO & Up Maiden 800m Glistering Stewards today inquired into the circumstances surrounding the catastrophic breakdown and subsequent euthanasia of the gelding at the abovementioned trials. Evidence was taken from trainer Mr G Portelli, who provided his veterinary and treatment records for the gelding. A necropsy report from the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Camden was also tendered into evidence which confirmed at post-mortem a complete fracture of the medial and lateral proximal sesamoid bones of the near-foreleg. Mr Portelli stated that Glistering, which had previously trialled on 21 November 2017, had not required any veterinary treatment and was only receiving a weekly dosage of Equimate leading into today's trial. After considering all the evidence, Stewards were satisfied that there was no pre-existing condition which led or contributed to the gelding breaking down, the inquiry was adjourned pending the results of a post-mortem urine sample that was obtained from Glistering. RACE 1: Mainstream Taxation & Accountancy Maiden Handicap 1350m Auerbach slow to begin. Aqua D'Ivina slow to begin. Only Ever Annie slow to begin. Voodoo Lady from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners to obtain cover.
20171221WYNG 2 Devil's Luck inclined to overrace throughout the early and middle stages when racing wide and without cover. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Islamax raced keenly in the middle stages. Inside the 100m was steadied to avoid the heels of Devil's Luck (B Shinn), which shifted in when not quite clear. B Shinn was told to exercise more care. RACE 2: 856 BOBS Eligible Yearlings@Gold Coast Benchmark 65 Handicap 1600m Harvard Graduate after being crossed by Courtly near the 1500m commenced to race fiercely and had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid that runner's heels. Then continued to race fiercely for some distance and near the 1400m had to be checked away from the heels of Ghetto Boy. Passing the 400m when weakening was crowded and carried wider by The Iron Maiden, which shifted out to obtain clear running. Billy Can near the 1500m was hampered when carried wider when Harvard Graduate shifted out. Near the 400m was bumped and carried wider by Harvard Graduate, which was taken out by The Iron Maiden. The Iron Maiden laid in when placed under pressure in the straight and over the concluding stages was unable to be fully ridden out when racing in restricted room between Ghetto Boy and Billy Can. Mr Smart a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 3: Twin Lakes Air Conditioning Pty Ltd Maiden Plate 1000m Nanpop a veterinary examination of the gelding, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, cleared it suitable to race. Slow to begin. Allez Rev after being presented in the enclosure, the gelding was returned to the saddling stalls for its gear to be adjusted. Over the final 100m was inclined to lay in under pressure, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 20m. Consider It Done was declared a late withdrawal at 2.25pm on veterinary advice after the filly became fractious in the barriers and reared over. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies placed on Consider It Done be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 2.25pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st Auchentoman less 29 cents win, 26 cents place; 2nd Fudgewedge less 32 cents place; 3rd Allez Rev less 31 cents place. Stable representative Ms T Rouse was advised Consider It Done must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. The Fox Effect stood flat-footed as the start was effected, then bounded and lost ground (3L).
20171221WYNG 3 Fast Talking slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised Fast Talking would now leave his stable. Mr Ryan was nevertheless advised the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Polar Star over the concluding stages was unable to be ridden out when racing in restricted room to the inside of Allez Rev. Fudgewedge when questioned regarding his riding, P King stated that as the filly was having its first race start today, he was issued with no specific instructions and after beginning well he was able to obtain a position midfield trailing the eventual winner Auchentoman. He said that approaching the 400m his mount was travelling particularly well and he elected to remain trailing Auchentoman approaching and rounding the home turn, as he felt that if he were to shift his mount to that runner's outside and commence to improve it may have become unbalanced and run wider rounding the turn. He added after about the 450m his mount pulled its way slightly to the inside of the heels of Auchentoman and during this time, while endeavouring to restrain off the heels of that horse, his mount was held up and not in a position to improve. P King further stated that shortly after straightening he shifted his mount into clear running to the outside of Auchentoman where it finished its race off strongly. P King was told that in the opinion of the Stewards he had erred in failing to shift his mount to the outside of Auchentoman approaching the 400m, which would have allowed it the opportunity to build momentum into the home straight rather than remaining in a position behind Auchentoman and not affording his mount a greater opportunity to improve at a vital stage of the race. At a subsequent inquiry P King pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under AR175(q) in respect of inappropriate comments he made during the course of the inquiry and was fined $500. RACE 4: Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes 1200m Gadfly slow to begin. Redouble slow to begin. Arbeitsam a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 5: DNR Electrical Benchmark 73 Handicap 1350m Deladies Boy slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Nissile slow to begin. He's A Given slow to begin. Barbeque began awkwardly, made contact with the offside gate and lost ground. RACE 6: Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1100m Ljungberg a veterinary examination of the colt, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, passed it suitable to race. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight. La Pomme De Pin began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance, rider J Bowditch stated that the filly was able to obtain the lead and travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure from the 400m failed to respond and raced flat. He added in his opinion the filly, which is only lightly framed, may not have appreciated the long float trip to Wyong and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr L Kennewell confirmed that La Pomme De Pin would now be spelled. Terminology - on jumping was checked when severely crowded between Ljungberg and Bondi, which shifted in. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Goresbridge a veterinary examination of the gelding, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, passed it suitable to race. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, App. J Innes Jr stated he had anticipated leading the race, however after being bumped on jumping by Connoisseur when that runner shifted in, his mount became unbalanced, lost ground and as a consequence was obliged to settle behind the speed. He said his mount travelled well, however after obtaining a narrow run to the inside of Smooth Truth near the 400m, it was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2 out of 5 lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr G Ryan was advised he would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance prior to Goresbridge racing again. Tswalu trainer Mr D Pfieffer was fined $100 under AR140A for the late application of a tongue tie to the mare's gear. Smooth Truth a veterinary examination of the mare, which kicked out after being loaded into the barriers, passed it suitable to race. Passing the 400m when weakening was crowded between Goresbridge and Connoisseur, which was taken in slightly by High Tranquility. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. High Tranquility raced wide and without cover throughout. Excelamour held up rounding the home turn. Connoisseur when questioned regarding the performance, rider T Angland stated his mount travelled well in a position behind the leaders, however became under pressure from as far out as the 500m and was disappointing in that it was one-paced in the run to the finish. He added that in his opinion the gelding, which was first up today, would derive benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1 out of 5 lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised he would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance prior to Connoisseur racing again.
