Royals vs. Indians The Royals dropped the season opener here yesterday, the first of 19 meetings between these A.L. Central foes...kansas City trails the all-time body of work by a 328-359 margin, including a 152-196 deficit in Cleveland, 79-122 in Progressive Field...dating back to a 5-4 loss on May 8, 2016, the Royals are just 3-16 in the last 19 games contested here. Date Site Score WP LP Att. 4/6 @ Clev L, 2-3 Carrasco Duffy *34,720 4/7 @ Clev 4/8 @ Clev 5/11 @ Clev 5/12 @ Clev 5/13 @ Clev FIRST INNING DECIDES RETURN TO FIELD--Due to issues with weather and off days, the Royals played for only the fifth time in the last 12 days and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Tribe in their home opener...all of the scoring took place in the first innings, with the Royals jumping out to a 2-0 lead against Carlos Carrasco by virtue of an RBI groundout by Mike Moustakas and run-scoring single by Lucas Duda...unfortunately, Duda s hit would be the last for KC until Drew Butera led off the sixth win a single...the Indians responded in front of the home crowd by having their first five hitters of the game reach safely against starting and losing hurler Danny Duffy, scoring three times before the Kansas City southpaw settled in...following a 2-run single by Michael Brantley, Duffy set down 16 of the next 18 he faced, with those two runners reaching on an error and a strikeout/wild pitch...the Royals could muster only a 1-for-7 day with runners in scoring position...kc has led in all five games to this point, but is off to a 1-4 beginning for the first time since the start of the 2001 season. CHILL OUT--If the weatherman is correct, today and tomorrow will be played near freezing temperatures, which will be close to par with the way the 2018 season has begun for the Royals and several other teams around the game...kansas City has played in an average temperature of 41 degrees through the first five contests, including a pair of 45 degree starts at home to open the year before an April Fool s Day snowstorm postponed the Sunday finale...since arriving in Detroit on Monday, the Royals and their opposition have played in temps of 36 and 40 in Motown before a Wednesday postponement and then a 41 degree late afternoon here yesterday. INACTIVITY HAUNTING ROYALS--Due to weather and off days, Kansas City has played a Major League low five games to this point, two fewer than any other club...dating back to the final exhibition game vs. the Cubs in Arizona on March 25, the Royals have played those five games over a 12-day span...kc was scheduled for an exhibition in Omaha on Monday, March 26, but that contest was weathered out, then following two consecutive scheduled off days, the Royals opened the year vs. the White Sox at home on March 29...the 30th was a scheduled day off, then game two with Chicago a week ago tonight was followed by a snowout at The K last Sunday...the Royals then played two in Detroit before Wednesday s postponement and Thursday s off day. JAYWALKING--Newcomer Jon Jay has found his way on base through the first five games, collecting four walks to go with his six hits, thus reaching safely in 10 of his 22 plate appearances for a.455 on-base pct. to start the year...the possessor of a.374 on-base pct. last year with the Cubs, Jay has served as the leadoff man in each of the first five games, opening the contest by reaching safely on four occasions.. ROYALS JOIN THE TWITTER-VERSE--Major League Baseball has announced its first nine games that not only will be carried by club rightsholders, but also live on Twitter...the Royals will join the fray on Wednesday, May 2 from Boston when Twitter will show the 12:05 (CDT) contest from Fenway Park... the game will also air on its normal home in Kansas City of FOX Sports Kansas City...Major League Baseball and the Royals have already announced that the Wednesday, April 18 game from Toronto will be shown exclusively be carried on Facebook, with the social media site the only place that contest can be found... there will be more Facebook and Twitter games announced as the season progresses. ROYALS RETURN HOME MONDAY--This series concludes tomorrow and then Kansas City will return home for its first extended stay in The K featuring a pair of A.L. West clubs...the stand starts on Monday with Seattle in town for three featuring 7:15 starts on Monday and Tuesday, then a 1:15 matinee finale on Wednesday...the Los Angeles Angels then come calling for a four-game set starting Thursday night.
