RV/RV Virginia Cavaliers at No. 7/4 Mississippi State Radio: WINA 1070-AM and 98.9 FM: Zealand Shannon TV: SEC Network The Cavaliers are receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls The Cavaliers return all but one player from last year s team, a 20-win squad that just missed the NCAA Tournament as one of the last out of the field of 64. The Cavaliers were the ACC s automatic qualifier for the WNIT. Virginia had a pair of freshman earn All-ACC honors last year, the first time UVA had ever had two players earn All-Freshman honors in the same season and only the eighth time that any team has had two freshmen on the team. Jocelyn Willoughby and Dominique Toussaint will look to make an even bigger impact in their sophomore season. Willoughby, who was also voted to the All-ACC Academic Team, was second among ACC freshmen in scoring (9.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.2 per game) and led the conference rookies in steals per game (1.7 per game). She was also UVA s leading rebounder, the first freshman to lead the squad since Brandi Teamer in 2002. Toussaint was third among ACC freshmen in points per game (9.5) Senior forward Lauren Moses has been a member of UVA s starting lineup since the first game of her collegiate career. Moses comes into the season with 825 career points and is on track to become the 33rd member of Virginia s 1,000 point club. She also starts the season with 600 career rebounds, with a chance to finish in the top-10 in program history in that statistic. After a full year of basketball, conditioning and weight training under her belt, sophomore Felicia Aiyeotan should have a more pronounced presence this season. The 6-9 center from Lagos, Nigeria had 54 blocked shots last season, ranking third in the ACC, which already puts her on the brink of the top-10 shot blockers in the UVA career rankings list. Sophomore forward/guard Jocelyn Willoughby was appointed as the non-voting, student-athlete member of the NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Oversight Committee. Willoughby is the lone student-athlete on the 15-member committee with her tenure running through June 2020. The goals of the committee are to advance the game and perception of women s basketball, improve the student-athlete experience and put an emphasis on the personal growth of student athletes. Along with the goals, it will also work to supervise qualifications and/or selection procedures for the NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Championship and provide direction to the NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Rules Committee regarding playing rules. 2016-17 Starting Lineup (final games) G 4 Dominique Toussaint Fr. 9.5 ppg 3.3 rpg 74 assts/42 stls ACC All-Freshman Team; 2nd among ACC freshmen in scoring G 12 Breyana Mason Sr. 10.3 ppg 3.5 rpg 92 assts/40 stls Only player not returning (graduated); led team in scoring in 2016-17; over 1000 career points G 13 Jocelyn Willoughby Fr. 9.8 ppg 6.2 rpg 53 assts/55 stl/13 blk ACC All-Freshman & All-Academic Teams; led team in rebounding F 14 Lisa Jablonowski Fr. 2.4 ppg 2.6 rpg 22 assts/30 stls/8 blk Started last nine games of season; team-high 8 reb in upset of Florida State F 21 Lauren Moses Jr. 9.5 ppg 5.7 rpg 35 assts/40 stls/26 blk ACC All-Academic, 3rd in scoring, 2nd in rebounding Virginia Athletics Media Relations 154 John Paul Jones Arena, PO Box 400853, Charlottesville, VA 22904 Office: (434) 982-5500 Fax: (434) 982-5525 Melissa Dudek (Women s Basketball Contact) Cell: (434) 962-0579 Email: mdudek@virginia.edu

Matt Althoff * as of end of 2016-17 season Team NOTES The Cavaliers have a very international flair. Joining Nigeria s Felicia Aiyeotan and Luxembourg s Lisa Jablonowski, both of whom are now sophomores, is freshman guard Amandine Toi from Paris. Toi is a current member of the French U19 Junior National Team and competed this summer at the 2017 U19 FIBA Women s Basketball World Cup in Italy, finishing in fifth place. Virginia freshman guard Amandine Toi (Paris, France) will miss the 2017-18 season, head coach Joanne Boyle announced Monday (Nov. 6). Toi had surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee after sustaining an injury during practice. The Cavaliers took a foreign tour this summer, spending seven days in Costa Rica in August, taking on a Canadian team as well as the Costa Rican National Team. It allowed the squad time to practice as well as the experience of getting three exhibition games under their belt. While in Costa Rica, the team went zip lining through a jungle while others went on an ATV tour. Some of them took surfing lessons as well as seeing wildlife that included a river filled with crocodiles. Their favorite part of the trip, however, was a trip to an orphanage, an activity they enjoyed so much, the itinerary of the trip was altered to allow a return visit to see the kids. This week s OPPONENTS The Cavaliers open the season at No. 7/4 Mississippi State on Friday, Nov. 10. The game will be televised on the SEC Network and will tip at 8 p.m. central time (9 p.m. ET) The No. 7 rating marks the highest ranking ever for the Bulldogs in the AP preseason poll. State started last season No. 10. Wednesday s poll also marked the Bulldogs 56th-straight week in the poll and 20th week in a row in the Top 10. Both active streaks are in the Top 10 nationally. Mississippi State is coming off a historic season that saw the Bulldogs win a school-record 34 games en route to advancing to the national championship game in the program s first Final Four appearance. The Bulldogs return nine letterwinners from that team, including Preseason All-SEC picks Victoria Vivians, Morgan William and Teaira Mc- Cowan. This is the first-ever meeting between the two teams The Cavaliers will host Central Connecticut State on Sunday, Nov. 12 in the home opener The Blue Devils were chosen fifth in the 2017-18 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll Central Connecticut was 11-20 last season CCSU will return three starters including junior Kiana Patterson who leads the returnees averaging 11.2 ppg and started in 30 games for Central last season. This is the first-ever meeting between the two teams interview policy All interview requests for Virginia women s basketball must be made through Melissa Dudek in the Virginia Athletics Media Relations Office. Players individual phone numbers will not be given to the media at any time. Game day interviews will not be granted until the postgame press conference opportunity. Please give a minimum of 24 hours notice for all interivew requests.
