The road across the track for vehicles will be open between races and closed when races are in progress. The circuit will be open for anyone who wants to complete practice laps until 8.15 am Pit lane garages In past years we have used the pit lane garages. With the circuit having invested in closing these garages in, they will now be charging us for using these at a rate of $20 per garage. This also includes the covered space under race control. If your school wants to use a garage or the covered space under race control, please pay $20 on the day to registration. Coffee and food carts The Pukekohe circuit caterers will be open on Sunday. In past years the range here has not been that wide or varied so we suggest not to rely solely on this, to be sure bring most of your own food No dogs please No dogs on site is a condition of our hire contract Points Intermediate sprint points 8, 6, 4, 2 Final lap points 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GILTRAP ŠKODA Again this year we have support from the team at Giltrap Skoda with our safety car that will be on the track for race day. If you can spare the time check out the Kodiaq and the new Karoq at Giltrap Skoda in Newmarket. These are seriously impressive machines in the flesh. Road cycling is a team effort this is a team series. Teams can be within a school or across a school/schools. Anyone you can work together with in the race for joint benefit is a potential team member. If you make up a team on race day 1 you can let me know up to 7 days after the first race who is in your team. From then on the team is fixed for the series Race 2 Aka Aka, Sunday 22 July, Counties Manukau team time trial For open grade CMC this will be a 2 up TTT. For school grades this will be a 3 up TTT Race 3 Mauku, Sunday 5 August, Road race Sponsors Generous support again has been provided by the team at Mt Eden Cycles. As we are not handing out individual vouchers and medals for individual results at these events this makes the pot so much bigger for the team prizes for the series These guys and gals know their stuff when it comes to anything biking. Many have raced, many still do and many have done the whole school racing thing. Talk to them about the latest and greatest that is fast, buy your regular supplies or get your any-make bike serviced there. Any support we can give them back helps. Open grades We encourage as many parents as possible to ride in the parents or other CMC grades. Whether it be look son/daughter this is how it is done or enjoy a social ride we encourage you all to give it a go. Auckland Schools Cycling, Points Race, Sunday 6 May (info sheet 1) The Auckland Schools road cycling season starts again this year with a points race at Pukekohe. For those of you new to Road Cycling (or this event); This event is open to any year 7 13 road cyclists (not just the Auckland region) School grades will be Under 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19 girls and boys The grade measure date is 31 December 2018. A rider who is aged 15 on 31 Dec 2018 will be an U16 rider The direction around Pukekohe will be clockwise Each race grade will have a short transition behind a pace car to a mass start Race distances will vary from 14km up to 35km depending on the grade This event is jointly run with Counties Manukau Cycling. During the program there will be open grade races from A E and including social. All comers (parents, coaches, teachers) are encouraged to participate in one of the open grade events The race schedule will be published in the week prior to the event. The order generally will be youngest to oldest with the first race starting at 8.30 am School sports coordinators can enter on www.enternow.co.nz Individuals or parents can enter on www.enternowonline.com Open grade race entries can be completed on www.cmcycling.co.nz Entries will open next week and close at midnight Thursday 3 May Cost $20/rider payable on entry The Road Race Series This race at Pukekohe is race 1 of a 3 race series Race 2 will be one of the Counties Manukau Cycling club races open to school riders (either 30 June or 22 July) to be confirmed Race 3 will be the annual Auckland Schools/CMC race at Mauku on 5 August What is a Points race? The winner of a points race is the rider who gains the most points throughout the race Points are won during intermediate sprints during the race and points awarded on the final sprint
Team event Be it school racers or professionals, road racing is a team effort. A few schools understand this well and use this to their advantage. The intent of this series is to prepare riders for races such as North Island Champs and National Champs. This year individual placings on sprints and likely the top 10 of races will be published however it will only be the best results of the team effort that will be recognised with vouchers and medals on conclusion of the series. A team will comprise 3 riders in the same grade that will work together for the best team results. The 3 members of a team do not have to be from the same school On entry you will be asked for a team name which will then group the 3 individual riders Your team does not have to be formed before the start of the first race. If you work with two others to form a team of three during the first race let me know a team name and members by email after the first race and I will link the three names as a team for all 3 of the races Please note that 7 days after the first race all teams will be finalised for the duration of the series and no change will then be accepted.
