THE SWIM The swim is a single loop of the 1000m course for the FULL and a single 500m loop for the SHORT. FULL distance racers will swim in a clockwise direc_on exi_ng the water directly in front of transi_on. They will have less than 100m from water exit to the T1 _ming mats and transi_oning to the Mt. bike course. The swim route will be marked with mul_ple giant buoys marking right hand turns. The swim will begin with a beach start. Full distance will be started in waves of no larger than 200. There will be 2 waves for 2017. Wave 1:, Men and all RELAYS at 8am, wave 2 women at 8:03am Short distance will be started in waves no larger than 150 and is an_cipated to be a single wave.
THE MOUNTAIN BIKE This is an off-road bike course. Sorry, no road bikes, cyclocross bikes or hybrid bikes allowed. Please Note: There is no water aid on the bike course so be sure to carry what you need however there is a designated gel drop zone. Please help us keep the park clean by using the gel drop zone for your refueling and retrieving your old water boole aeer the race. ***The conservapon area has created a new trail system and closed an inipal 300m secpon of our course. This is between km s 1.5 2km. This new secpon is flat, single track and has relentless twists and turns and adds on an addiponal 600m per lap to the overall distance. There are passing points however good communicapon will be required.*** FULL COURSE AND DUATHLON you must complete 2- loops of the course (NOTE: This race grew in 2015 so underwent a redesign for 2 loops which are not the same. LOOP 1 is 8.4km inner loop. LOOP 2 is 14.6 km outer loop. These loops overlap for their first 3.5km s before separamng out. The en_re course will be marked with flagging, cau_on tape, turning arrow s, cau_on signs, and other direc_onal/informa_ve signage as required. Addi_onally, arrows and/or cau_on tape and/or signage will be used to highlight significant turns, hills, or other hazards. MORE ON NEXT PAGE!
THE MOUNTAIN BIKE CONTINUED It is VERY IMPORTANT that you keep track of what lap you are on! You are required to do 2 loops of the bike course. ONE INNER LOOP AND ONE OUTER LOOP. At the end of the loop (as shown on the map), there will be signage indica_ng: a LEFT turn for racers to con_nue onto the 2 nd loop of the course a RIGHT TURN/RETURN TO TRANSITION to take racers (who completed 2 laps) back into the transi_on to the run course. Addi_onally, there will be volunteers at key turning points to help direct you along the way. It is your responsibility to keep track of your laps and know the race map. GEL DROP ZONE: There is a designated area just aeer transi_on across the parking lot field for gel or fuel packaging to be dropped. This area will be marked as the Gel Drop Zone. This is an area with flat terrain, where it is safe to fuel-up and drop your garbage. We are trying very hard to keep the trails clean, so please _me your fueling for this area, or keep your garbage with you. You will pass this zone one _me on each lap. SHORT DISTANCE you must complete only 1 lap of the 8.4km course, which will be well marked. There will be no need to count laps, as your route is a single loop followed by a return to the transi_on zone.
THE RUN The run begins with a steady hill along an old gravel road, which follows the perimeter of the quarry before heading into the escarpment trails. The run will be marked with a combina_on of arrows, cau_on tape, and pylons. There will be several water sta_ons along the trail with Sports drink and water. Your home stretch will have you heading directly toward the quarry lake and around it before you enter the finishing shoot in front of the crowd! THE OPEN TRAIL RUN *** Maps have be updated to show the addi_on of 1.5km as described below*** The 12.5km open trail run will use the same course as the Full Triathlon and Duathlon final run course with the addi_on of star_ng from behind the main hanger and running the gravel road sec_on which follows the perimeter of the quarry lake. You will run towards the finish line however take a RIGHT up the road just before the chute where you will _e into the main race course. Aeer comple_ng a loop in the trails, par_cipants will drop back down the escarpment path and once again follow the perimeter of the quarry lake on their way to the finish line.
