Mission: MHS LEADs academic excellence to prepare students for post-secondary opportunities. MHS Educational Community creates a culture of life-long Learners, welcomes and accepts Diversity, challenges all to achieve Excellence, fosters a spirit of Accountability and encourages everyone to Dream within a safe environment. Principal s Message Happy Holidays! Please emphasize with your student the importance of staying on top of their grades as the semester draws to a close. Study smart and study hard, eat right and get lots of rest; sounds like a remedy to fight the common cold, but really it s a remedy for getting through finals week! Second semester schedules are available on parent portal. Please review them with your student(s), and if they need adjusted, please contact your school counselor prior to the holiday break. Students enjoy your time off, but don t start too soon, please wait until finals are complete. Good news around state testing this year: only 9 th graders will participate in the PARCC testing second semester. There will be no testing for seniors. Sophomores will take a pre-act/sat, CDE has not yet made that decision. Juniors will take the ACT/SAT and possibly the CMAS science, overall, much less testing for high school students. Parents do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns or compliments. Thank you for sharing your children with us. Secretary/Attendance Office Stay connected to all MHS events and happenings! Guidance Office L to R Dallas Thompson, Isabel Roberts, Jeannine Rodriguez, Terrell Banuelos, Oscar Coronado, Joshua Hemenway, Tessa Leverett, and Max McMahill. SENIORS: Your 15 hours of community service that are required for graduation are due Friday, December 18th. Continue to apply for scholarships and work on your college applications. Schedule Changes: If you want to make a schedule change for second semester, this needs to be done no later than December 18th. You will need to see your counselor before school, after school, during lunch or during lead time. Link Crew is sponsoring a social event for freshmen on Tuesday, December 1st immediately after school in the cafeteria. Food, Games, Fun!!! HOLA! Is hosting a parent event on college information, Friday, December 10th at 7 in the library. All are welcome to attend.

Athletics and Activities The athlete for the month of December is Mr. Nick Gibson. Nick is a senior here at MHS and is the Student Body President. Nick is highly involved in our student leadership program and a starter on the varsity football team. Nick told me he played football, because he enjoyed the team mentality and enjoyed doing something he loved with his friends and the guys he grew up with. Nick said his favorite memory of this season was after a slow first half against Mesa Ridge High School; the team came out in the second half and played as one. This resulted in the Indians accomplishing a huge one sided victory. Nick mentioned that he really appreciated Coach Scriffiny, because he not only pushed student athletes on the field, but also in the classroom to be the best they could be. Nick said that Coach Scriffiny also pushes his students and athletes to maintain very high moral and ethical standards at all times. Nick said his future plans are to attend a university after graduation and become possibly an English Teacher. Nick said he considers himself a very open person. Outside of athletics and the classroom, Nick enjoys snowboarding, disc golf, and hanging out with his friends. He also told me that he actually likes working at his part time job as well. What I see in Nick is a highly organized and intelligent young man with great leadership skills. I have no doubt that whatever Nick decides to do in the future, he will be extremely successful at it. MHS will truly miss Nick Gibson next year! On a different note, the Colorado High School Activities Association has the MHS activities office figure the team grade point averages for the fall sports. For Montrose High School they were as follows: Volleyball: 3.82 Girls XC: 3.81 Boys XC: 3.62 Softball: 3.53 Congratulations to these fall athletes! When one considers how far we travel each season, these GPA s are even more impressive. Please remember that maintaining high academic standards is not something the student athlete does on their own. It is a combined effort on behalf of the athlete, the parents, and our teaching staff. Great Job People!!!

Special Olympics The Special Olympics Project Unify Class is making and delivering Holiday gift bags to Community Options clients.
