UCI BMX Supercross World Cup bid guide 2014

BICYCLE MOTORCROSS BMX Bicycle moto cross (BMX) started in the late 1960s in California, around the time that motocross became a popular sport in the USA. In April 1981, the International BMX Federation was founded, and the first world championships were held in 1982. Thus, since January 1993, BMX has been fully integrated into the Union Cycliste Internationale. The main BMX areas in the world were and are the U.S.A., Europe and Australia, whilst South America has also been growing rapidly over the past years. Over 2,400 competitors from 38 countries participated in the 2012 UCI BMX World Championships that was held in Birmingham, Great Britain. BMX made a successful debut at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China and made a succesful return at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Millions of TV-viewers watched the eciting BMX action over 3 days, which was held in front of a sold-out crowd in the Olympic park.

UCI Union Cycliste Internationale The International Cycling Union (UCI) is cycling s International Federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The UCI was founded in Paris in 1900. The UCI administers and promotes the development of the eight disciplines of cycling all around the world (road, track, mountain bike, BMX, para-cycling, cyclo-cross, trials and indoor cycling). WORLD CUP UCI BMX Supercross World Cup The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is the premier BMX racing series in the world, with a live world wide TV coverage enjoyed by thousands of fans. The BMX Supercross World Cup is the most eciting and spectacular BMX and cycling events ever produced, featuring 5 events per year around the world with the very best male and female BMX riders fighting for a prize purse of over US $120,000. Apart from the UCI BMX World Championships, the BMX Supercross World Cup is the only BMX racing series featuring the Olympic format and is the main qualification events for the Olympic Games.

WORLD CUP Athletes & Participants An average of 250 participants from 30 countries attend each of the BMX Supercross World Cup s. With more than 200 competitors and with an average 3000 people attending a BMX Supercross World Cup, an economic impact of app. US $500,000 on the local economy can be epected. Using previous World Cups as a guide, the epected average length of stay for out of country and out of province visitors is a minimum of 5 days. During their stay visitor will spend, on average, $200 per day. BMX s ON TV The 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup was distributed by IMG Media and broadcasted in 70 territories over 15 broadcasters. Depending of what type of broadcaster and interest, GSX produced webcast (3 hour window), live (2 hour window), 26 minute post production (available 12 hours after event), 26 minute magazine lifestyle show (available 10 days after event). EUROPE Eurosport (Pan Europe), TV2 (Norway), NOS (Netherlands), Sky Sports (UK), EXQI Sports (Belgium), L Equipe online (France), Nova Sports (Greece), LTV, Etreme Channel (Pan-Europe) Americas Universal Sports (USA), ESPN (Brazil), Fo Sports Latam (Pan South America), Rush HD (Pan America) ASIA Eurosport Asia (Pan Asia), EDGESport (Pan Asia) Africa Eurosport (Pan Africa) Inflight Media To date the airlines KLM, Thai airlines and Garuda Indonesia. Magazine/News distribution Transworld Sport, Sports News TV (SNTV) distribute to 350 world wide news broadcasters (incl BBC, ESPN, Canal Plus). The Global audience reach is estimated to 4.24 million TV viewers, with a live audience of 0.5 million TV viewers. All events were webcasted live on bmlive.tv and freecaster.tv with an average of 35,000 individual viewers per event. In total and including video-on-demand, BMX Supercross had an average of 25,000 per event. The intention is to increase the distribution for 2013 and beyond, where GSX will work closely with the appropriate distribution agencies.

Plug And Play GSX The UCI BMX Supercross is unique in the fact that it is a plug-and-play event for a local organizer. All sporting aspects are managed by the eperienced core staff of the UCI and GSX. This give the local organizer a greater oppurtunity to focus on the promotion. The UCI and GSX are bringing valuable core staff and equipment. A few eamples: All timing equipment and staff are supplied. Branding implementation is done by GSX staff. It s ALl about EXPERIENCE The complete TV production is done by Friday TV. GSX is supplying an eperienced DJ. GSX is supplying an English speaking race announcer. GSX is supplying the media service and editorial rights-free photos. UCI is supplying a Technical Delegate and a number of International Commissaires. GSX through EliteTra Inc. is supplying the track builder and designer to build and finalize the track.

However, the UCI and GSX grant the organizer an average of 50% of the visibility depending on the location. The marketing rights are described in appendi 2. GSX acquired the rights from UCI and is the owner of the worldwide broadcasting rights (including radio, TV, internet and any other multimedia broadcasts) of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. However, if the Organiser supplies the technical equipment for the TV production, GSX may grant the broadcasting rights within the host country to the Organiser (or host broadcaster).

organiser Responsibilities The necessary infrastructure and human resources for the organisation of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup according to the terms and conditions of the series (2014 UCI BMX Supercross Practical Organisation Guide); Payment of the minimum event prize money as mentioned in appendi 1 Human resources and necessary equipment for the track construction (2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Practical Organisation Guide). Supply 150 room nights for Global SX and UCI staff in hotel (near venue) during the event; Financial Responsibilities The organizer is obliged to pay a 10,000 calendar fee. In addition to other mentioned responsibilities for the Organiser, the model of the financial responsibilities in appendi 3 shall act as an outline for the provision organisation budget. UCI Financial Responsibilities Supply trophies for the final overall standing Payment of the Overall prize money as mentioned in appendi 1 UCI Technical Delegate and an International Commissaires panel (4 persons)

UCI Bidding Procedure A. B. Selection of the candidates for the 2014 uci bm Supercross World Cup: A GSX representative visit will be organised for every new site. The following elements will be taken into consideration: Technical aspects of the site Geographical situation Evaluation of the general competencies for the organisation of such an event Four (4) files have to be prepared in English and returned to the UCI before 1st May 2013 to the BMX Coordinator to the following address: Ms. Ellen Bollansee International Cycling Union (off road) 1860 Aigle Switzerland Mail to: ellen.bollansee@uci.ch In addition, a copy of the file shall also be sent to: Global SX Events Creekside Plaza 1000 Suite 300 Gahanna, Ohio 43230 USA Mail to: johan.lindstrom@gsevents.com The National Federations or organisers/candidates will have to supply the following information for each candidature: A support letter of the National Federation; An introduction letter describing the motivations of the candidature Organiser s address References and events already organised by the organiser and on the venue/track (if it already eists) Requested dates (with reference to the period mentioned above) Infrastructures available (track, grand stands, press room, meeting rooms, commissaires room, accreditation-registration center, official hotel etc.) Team accommodation possibilities Provisional complete budget (incomes and epenses) Geographical situation (airport distance, freeway access, big cities and accessibility to the site) Map and profile of the venue and (if already eists) the track. Preferably in colour and in A4 form. Do you plan more events in conjunction with the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, If yes, which one and when?

UCI Selection Procedure The candidatures will not be confirmed before: The UCI and GSX will evaluate the received bids, which have signed the contract and will announce the selected venues and organizations of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup by letter and later on followed by a press release. The signature of a contract, which will be sent to each candidate and/or the hosting National Federation. Candidates will be confirmed during the month of June after the UCI Management Board confirmed the dates and locations Only files arriving before the deadline can be taken into consideration.
