Statement of Interest Describe why you are interested in serving on an A&H Regional Council. Please attach separate sheet(s) if necessary. Your application will be evaluated using the following criteria: 1. Experience and knowledge of hunting or knowledge and breadth of experience in the agriculture or forestry industries. 2. Involvement in sportsman/hunter/conservation organizations or experience with fish & wildlife resource management issues. 3. Leadership in sportsman/hunter/conservation organizations or involvement in agriculture or forest industry organizations. 4. Leadership and experience on or with councils, boards, commission, and legislature. 5. Experience working with and/or representing the public. 6. Ability/interest in working collaboratively with others. 7. Participation in the A&H program 8. Ability to foster positive relations between landowners, and ODFW. I was an ODFW assistant district biologist for 15 years with responsibilities for habitat management and enhancement. I worked with many landowners on habitat projects including enhancement, damage control, and hunter access issues. I have been an active member of the Oregon Hunter s Association for 18 years and served on the Board of the Umpqua Chapter for 17 of those years. I am an avid hunter, fisher, and bird watcher as well as an outdoor writer. I am familiar with most of the councils and boards pertaining to Habitat and Hunting issues in Oregon. I have done presentations and/or communicated with many of them throughout my career although my experience with the legislature is very limited. I own approximately 300 acres in the Smith River drainage near Reedsport and am familiar with habitat issues from a landowner s perspective, a biologist s perspective, and a hunter s perspective. I feel I can represent the interests of all three in a balanced way. As the coordinator of the Umpqua Basic Fish Plan, I gained invaluable experience working with a group of people who had very different interests and agendas. We maintained a cooperative and courteous atmosphere throughout and it was an enjoyable if challenging experience. Page 4 of 35

Ability/interest in working collaboratively with others. 7. Participation in the A&H program 8. Ability to foster positive relations between landowners, and ODFW. 1. I have been involved in various types of hunting since I was about 7 yrs old. I have hunted with hounds, bow hunt, rifle, birds, big game etc.. I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable in regards to hunting. I went through the program and obtained the Master Hunter certification. I have seen fluctuations in various species over the years. I have seen the negative impacts that outdoorsmen have had on lands be it private or public. 2. I am a lifetime member of the Oregon Hunters Assoc. (OHA) and often contribute to the Rocky Mountain Elk Found.. With OHA, I volunteer time and effort to assist with projects that in some way support habitat improvement for wildlife. 3. I am the Project Coordinator for the Umpqua chapter of the OHA, which is an officer position on the local board. With this role, I work with land managers to organize projects that will in some way benefit wildlife of any species. For all board members there is the responsibility of deciding and voting on issues that affect the local chapter s interest in money expenditures or legislative persuasion. 4. With the exception of being on the board as explained in #3, I don t have any other relevant experiences that involves councils, commissions, etc.. 5. I really have no experience working directly with the public. 6. I spent 9 years active duty US Air Force and 15 years with the Oregon Air National Guard, accordingly I do have vast experience in working collaboratively with other groups and entities. 7. My participation with A&H programs is limited to utilizing lands that were under the program for hunting access. 8. I believe that keeping an open mind to issues and remembering that other people and groups have values and ideas that they are passionate about, just as I am about wildlife. Strive to bring the two abstract thoughts together. Page 20 of 35
