SWIMMING LESSONS Swimming lessons are available at Alleyne s Sports Centre throughout the year, at a variety of levels. All the teaching staff are ASA qualified: Level 2 Teachers take the lead in the lessons, often working with a Level 1 Assistant, ensuring our swimming lessons are of a consistently high quality. The ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming Alleyne s Sports Centre has been working with the ASA s highly successful National Plan for Teaching Swimming since 2003. For children from the age of three and a half, this is a series of stepped awards which place the emphasis on quality of performance, while at the same time allowing the swimmers to have fun and develop their own particular strengths. At the highest levels, children begin to learn about competitive training techniques. At all levels, there is a chance to earn distance badges. Adult and Baby Classes Suitable for babies from around six weeks old, these classes are an introduction to the swimming world! The accompanying adult is shown how to encourage their baby to enjoy being in the pool environment, and at the same time get them used to having their faces near or in the water. The emphasis is on confidence building, and having fun. Synchronised Swimming For anyone who can swim 50m or more stress-free, and who are proficient at sculling, these lessons introduce the basic skills needed for synchronised swimming. Work includes routines and figures, with music where appropriate. Adult Swimming Lessons Alleyne s Sports Centre is delighted to offer the chance for adults to swim: to learn from scratch, or to improve their strokes and skills. Individual requirements can be catered for within these sessions. One-to-One Swimming Lessons Anyone wishing to have more private swimming tuition may find our one-to-one sessions what they are looking for. Arranged by the teacher and swimmer at a day and time to suit both, these classes can be whatever you want them to be! 3
POOL ACTIVITIES A variety of fun and energising activities are held every day in the 25m six-lane swimming pool. Public swimming sessions are held daily, and include some times designated for adults only. (Please note that an adult must accompany children under the age of 8 in the water). Swimming clubs, catering for more advanced requirements, also use the pool on a regular basis. Giant Inflatable Fun! At weekends and during school holidays, a giant fun inflatable dominates the pool! Children and adults capable of swimming 25m or more can join in the fun. Adults Only Swimming Fancy an early-morning wake-up call? Why not join the Early Bird session before heading off to work? Alternatively, there are regular adults-only sessions that you could fit into your lunch hour and evening sessions for the night owls amongst you! Aquaerobics Aerobics in the water is a fun and less strenuous way of working out, ideal for participants with injuries that restrict other fitness activity, but is also great fun for everyone that wants a toned body and a low-impact workout. A qualified instructor is on hand before and after the class for advice and information. All exercise is in shallow water and is therefore very safe for nonswimmers. 4
