Welcome to the Governor Mifflin Sports Academy The summer of 2016 is the second season for the Governor Mifflin Sports Academy. Governor Mifflin varsity coaches will host 20 sports camps and clinics to give the youth of our community the opportunity to participate in the sports they love, or try a new sport for the first time. Each camp is designed for athletes of all skill levels. The camps will focus on improving skills, both physically and mentally, under the guidance of experienced staff. SWIMMING BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 May 23-26, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Cost: $60 Intermediate School Pool Head Coach: Brady Stauffer Come join the fun and exciting world of swimming for this camp offered by Governor Mifflin varsity swimming coaches. This camp is designed for all levels of swimming ability, from novice to expert (participants must be able to swim at least four lengths of the pool). Throughout the camp we will focus on all four strokes as well as conditioning, turns, and starts. If you are thinking about swimming this summer or next season, please come out and give our camp a try. DIVING BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-9 May 23-26, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Cost: $60 Intermediate School Pool Head Coach: Barry Llewellyn Come join the fun and exciting world of diving for this camp offered by the Governor Mifflin diving coach. This camp is designed for divers who can make an approach and dive off the board. TENNIS BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Governor Mifflin Tennis Courts Head Coaches: Maria Rapchinski & Darren Kostival This GMSA camp will focus on drill work for all strokes, singles/doubles strategies, conditioning, and match play. Challenging drills and games will reinforce proper technique, footwork, and positioning. Participants will have a blast, learn the sport of tennis, and develop greater coordination in movement, body awareness, agility, and balance. Please bring your tennis racquet and plenty of water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the Intermediate School gymnasium. BOYS LACROSSE BOYS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Governor Mifflin Stadium Head Coach: John Verno Whether new to the lacrosse field or a player with experience, this camp will help participants take their game to new heights. Throughout the week, campers will focus on stick work, passing, and shooting while scrimmaging and running drills. Participants should bring a stick, helmet, mouth guard, elbow pads, shoulder pads, gloves, and water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the High School auxiliary gymnasium. 4

FIELD HOCKEY GIRLS, GRADES 2-9 June 6-9, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Multipurpose Field Head Coach: Irene Ziemer Are you ready to learn the rules and techniques needed to play this regal sport? This GMSA camp will concentrate on the fundamentals, such as multiple dribbling techniques, dodges, stopping, push passes, drives, and slap shots. Our focus on improving your skills will be accomplished by having fun while executing many exciting activities. Some activities include: Steal The Bacon, Queen of the Circle, and Cone Weaving. Campers need to bring their own stick, mouth guards, shin guards, and water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the Middle School gymnasium. CHEERLEADING GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 High School Auxilary Gym Head Coach: Lindsay Gerhart Come join us at GMSA cheer camp to learn the basics of cheerleading and drills to improve your skills in the off season. We will have sessions covering arm motions, chants and cheers, jump technique, and stunting safety. In addition, girls will compete to have the most spirit, energy, and Mifflin pride! All campers will need to bring water and come dressed in sneakers and your best smile! GIRLS LACROSSE GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Multipurpose Field Head Coach: Chris Allen GMSA is proud to bring you the fastest game on two feet. Whether you are ready to take your game to the next level or learn from the very beginning, this camp is for you. The camp has been designed to help new players learn the rules and necessary techniques, while teaching returning players how to improve their skills. Stick-work, passing, and shooting will be emphasized in a fun and enjoyable environment. Competitions and game play will be introduced to let the athletes show off their new skills! Campers will need to bring a stick, mouth guard, sneakers, spikes, and water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the High School main gymnasium. 5

BASEBALL BOYS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Varsity Baseball Field Head Coach: Chris Hole Are you ready for the GMSA to take you out to the ball game to learn the fundamentals of America s summer pastime? This camp will concentrate on baseball skills, such as hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing, pitching/catching, and base running. Our focus will be on teaching and enhancing your technique and knowledge in these categories. We will utilize drills that are fun and safe in their design, and that can foster competition amongst friends. Campers need to bring their own bat, glove, sneakers/cleats, summer sports attire, and water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the Intermediate School gymnasium. BOYS SOCCER BOYS, GRADES 2-8 June 6-9, 5:30-8:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Multipurpose Field Head Coach: Jose Garcia Fundamentals and skill refinement will be the focus of this fast-paced and fun GMSA camp. Players can learn the game or sharpen their exisiting knowledge through drills, games, and fun competition. This is a great opportunity to play a sport. Bring your sneakers, spikes, and shin guards. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the Middle School main gymnasium. GIRLS SOCCER GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 13-16, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Multipurpose Field Head Coach: Ed Deren Our goal is to introduce the game of soccer to beginning players and have experienced players refine their skills. The focus of instruction will be technical ball mastery, problem solving, speed of play, decision making, and field awareness. In our training sessions, players will focus on fun, games, teaching fundamentals, physical exercise, awareness, and cooperation in groups. Campers should bring sneakers, spikes, and shin guards. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the Middle School gymnasium. 6

FOOTBALL BOYS, GRADES 2-9 June 13-16, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Governor Mifflin Stadium Head Coach: Mick Vecchio The academy will teach the fundamentals of football. Please note, this is not a contact camp, no pads or helmets will be used. Players will learn the proper techniques for blocking, tackling, running the ball, catching, throwing, and defense. Please bring spikes, sneakers and water. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the High School gymnasium. GOLF BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 4-8 June 13-16, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Manor Golf Course Head Coach: Mike Kurtz The Governor Mifflin Golf Academy s objectives are to introduce students to the game of golf. Golf etiquette, rules, fundamentals of a golf swing, and putting will be taught and practiced. Coach Michael Kurtz will instruct students at the Manor practice facility on Monday and Wednesday with guided practice. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will play nine holes in a tournament format with prizes at the conclusion. We look forward to introducing students to one of the only high school sports that can be played throughout one s life. Clubs will be provided for anybody who needs them. WATER POLO BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 3-8 June 13-16, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $60 Intermediate School Pool Head Coaches: Bob Heist & Kyle Kuser Would you like to learn about the fastest growing aquatic sport in the state? This GMSA camp will introduce you to all the fundamentals of the game such as treading, passing, catching, and shooting (everyone s favorite) as well as both offensive and defensive moves. If you love the water, this Olympic sport is the game for you! Campers must bring their own towel, water bottle, and suit (girls bring a racing type suit, not a two-piece). You must be able to tread and swim in deep water for an extended period of time. Hope to see you at the pool! 7

WRESTLING BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 13-16, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 High School Auxiliary Gym Head Coach: Ralph Voit This camp is designed to give you an introduction to this fun, but challenging age-old sport. You will learn to use your body in the fundamentals of attacks and counter attacks. You will improve your athletic conditioning, strength, balance, position and competitiveness which can be used in other sports. You will only wrestle people your size and ability and you will have fun. Please wear normal sneakers, a T-shirt and shorts. With numerous championship teams and individuals, Governor Mifflin is a great place to be a wrestler. VOLLEYBALL BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 5-8 June 13-16, 6:00-8:30 p.m. Cost: $70 Intermediate School Gym Head Coaches: Matt Davis & Josh Radwanski Come learn how to turn your summer picnic volleyball game into something that looks more like the summer Olympics! Volleyball is a sport that everyone loves, but few truly understand and this is your chance. Come learn the basic skills and strategies of this high intensity and fun sport from the boys and girls coaching staff of the successful Governor Mifflin high school program. We look forward to working hard, learning a lot, and having a great time along the way! TRACK & FIELD/XC BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 20-23, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Governor Mifflin Stadium Track Head Coaches: Jack Heim, Greg Kellenberger, Jane Buckley & Gary Mitzel Do you like to run, jump or throw? Then the GMSA Track and Field/Cross Country Camp is the camp for you! This camp will introduce young athletes to a sport rich in tradition and history. Campers will be introduced to the following events: sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, and distance running. We will teach fundamental techniques using exercises, drills and lots of fun activities. The fundamentals of proper body positioning, stride, warm-up, and cool-down will also be covered. Please bring water, good training/running shoes, sunscreen, and a beach towel. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the High School main gymnasium. 8

BOYS BASKETBALL BOYS, GRADES 2-8 June 20-23, 9:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $70 Intermediate School Gym Head Coach: Dab Haughney All boys welcome to the GMSA basketball camp! Learn the fundamentals of basketball from the GM coaching staff and some of the varsity players. We will demonstrate shooting, dribbling, passing, and defensive drills. We want you to learn to play the game the right way, but will keep it simple and fun with contests and games. The coaching staff is looking forward to meeting and teaching the future Mustang hoopsters. GIRLS BASKETBALL GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 20-23, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Intermediate School Gym Head Coach: Mike Clark Girls will learn the game of basketball from the 2016 BCIAA championship coaching staff! This camp will teach the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense in a fun way to help you succeed in basketball. Contests and games will also be a big part of the camp. BOWLING BOYS & GIRLS, GRADES 2-8 June 20-23, 12:30-3:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Hiester Lanes Head Coaches: Dana Brown & Greg Bickta What s a baby split? What s a Greek Church? How do you make a ten-pin? And how much fun can you really have in ten frames? Our bowling camp is all about finding out! Bowlers will build friendships in a positive environment while learning to improve their fundamentals and develop their skills. They ll also score an enhanced knowledge of the game and of the mental and physical elements involved. Campers will learn from experienced coaches in an air-conditioned facility while turning their gutter-balls into strikes! Bowling shoes and bowling balls will be provided. SOFTBALL GIRLS, GRADES 5-8 June 20-23, 3:30-6:00 p.m. Cost: $70 Varsity Softball Field Head Coach: Jeff Egan The softball academy will include skill development in hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. Girls will also participate in skill games and development of school spirit. Spikes/sneakers and water are required, snack optional. If you have your own bat and helmet, bring them. In the event of rain, this camp will be held at the High School auxiliary gymnasium. 9
