Play and Train Fees: CWSC Indoor 2016/17 Programs Age Group Year of Birth Cost U6 2011-2012 $275 U8 2009-2010 $275 U9/10 2007-2008 $300 U12/14 2003-2006 $300 A late fee of $25 will be charged after August 1/16 U6/7 - U8/9 CWSC Futsal Program Calgary West Soccer Club will continue to provide its U6/7 and U8/9Futsal Program for this indoor. The Club provided the following details: The futsal game is a game played with no contact, with a smaller ball, reduced numbers of players on the field, a smaller field. It promotes more touches on the ball, more skilled use of the ball, more movement without the ball to support the play, and higher technical speed of the game It promotes skill versus contact /physicality. The lack of boards forces players to learn to control the ball, and pass with accuracy to keep the ball in play, versus the board, which allows players to be lazy with technique. The lack of contact is an important part of the values we believe are important to learn to play soccer the way it should be played. Teaching players at U6 and U8 to get their elbows/arms up and to win the ball through shoulder checking is inappropriate for that age. Players instead should be taught how to win the ball by moving their feet and positioning their body to win the ball with skill. Players should also be taught to keep control the ball with skill, not with physicality. CWSC will introduce futsal to U6/7 and U8/9 players in our club as an alternative to the indoor "arena, walled soccer" game played currently in the minor soccer league in Calgary. See Why is Futsal Better below. Our futsal program will introduce the physical literacy skills needed to play the game of futsal including fundamental motor skills, ball skills, and tactical awareness. We will pilot the program by integrating futsal instruction into regular weekly soccer practices of U6 and U8 players/teams with professionally trained futsal specialists, delivering age appropriate futsal curriculum. Our futsal program will introduce the physical literacy skills needed to play the game of futsal including fundamental motor skills and sport specific skills. We will encourage a sport which is the most appropriate development game to play at the youngest ages, and which facilitates a proper development progression into the outdoor soccer game.

Why is Futsal Better? FIFA says futsal is better! And the Brazilians are among the many nations that swear by it. Think Ronaldinho! Think Marta! Two of the greatest players in recent years attribute their development and success to their formative years spent playing futsal! Former greats like Pele, Ronaldo and Bebeto all credit futsal for much of their skill and technique development. Once you experience futsal, you will see the reasons: - more touches on the ball - better foot skills - more movement without the ball - quick decisions - technical speed of play - high-scoring games - constant excitement Reducing the number of players to 5 per team allows for all of the components that are present in the 11 v. 11 game: the ball, teammates and opponents, realistic pressure, appropriate space, guidelines (rules), direction of play (attacking and defending), and the combination of length and width in the game (team shape), and shooting on goal. But players are so much more involved... witness the following. Futsal is FIFA s official indoor soccer game which is, essentially, a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a small sided game (5v5) played on a smaller field (roughly basketball court sized) with a smaller (size 3-4) ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries. There are no walls in play. This is the game that outdoor soccer players around the globe play when they are indoors to refine and maintain their control skills and touch. It is superior to walled soccer in terms of developing better skills and technique. In traditional American walled soccer, players regularly whack the ball (and sometimes their bodies) against the boards, which promotes improper technique and too often rewards errant play. In futsal, players are constantly reminded to play the same quality control game that is required for success in the outdoor game. Futsal is the only "Official form of Indoor Soccer" as approved by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). It is played on all the continents of the world by more than 100 countries with 12 million registered players and growing.

CMSA Competitive Program (U6 to U18) CWSC will offer a competitive program for U6-U18. For U6 and U8, players can choose either, the U6 and U8 CWSC Futsal Program, or the CMSA indoor arena boarded program. CWSC believes that the futsal game is a better development game than the indoor arena boarded game that CMSA promotes, however, recognizes that many players and parents enjoy the environment of the West Soccer Centre, and playing against other club teams. We have thus chosen to offer both programs for members to choose. U9/10 Tier A and U11/12-U18 Tier 1 teams will automatically be entered into the CMSA Futsal League. U9/10 Tier B and C and U11/12-U18 Tier 2-6 teams will be automatically entered into the CMSA Arena (boarded field) league. We recognize this is an added fee for those players, however, we hope that players and members recognize the high degree of quality training they will benefit from, as part of their long term development.

CWSC notes that in the open boundary system prevalent in Calgary, the need to strategically place our professional coaches as team coaches is paramount. We reserve the right to assign coaches strategically.
