QUALIFIED NATIONS: AFC QATAR Qatar are making their return to the FIFA U-20 World Cup after a 20-year absence, courtesy of winning their maiden AFC Asian U-19 Championship crown in October 2014. This is Qatar s third appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Qataris took part in the 1981 and 1995 tournaments, losing to Germany in the final on the first of those occasions and going out in the group phase on the second. KOREA DPR Korea DPR qualified for the tournament after finishing runners up to Qatar in the Asian qualifying tournament. FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 will be Korea DPR s third FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign, having represented Asia at Canada 2007 and Colombia 2011. The Young Chollima failed to progress beyond the group phase in their previous two attempts. MYANMAR Myanmar emerged as the surprise packages of the Asian qualifiers, coming from nowhere to claim one of the continent s four berths in New Zealand. This will be the country s maiden appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. UZBEKISTAN Long known as a force to be reckoned with in Asia, Uzbekistan are now progressing rapidly on the global stage. FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 marks Uzbekistan s fourth appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Uzbekistan progressed beyond the group stage only once, at Turkey 2013, when they went all the way to the last eight only to lose out to eventual champions France. QUALIFIED NATIONS

QUALIFIED NATIONS: CAF GHANA Ghana qualified for their 7th FIFA U-20 World Cup by virtue of their 3rd place finish in the CAF U-20 qualifying. Runnersup in 1993 and 2001 they went one better in 2009 by winning the tournament, beating Brazil on penalties in the final. They also finished 3rd in 2013 beating Iraq 3-0. MALI In their 5 previous FIFA U-20 World Cups, Mali achieved a best result of 3rd in 1999 beating Uruguay in the 3rd/4th playoff game after having lost 3-1 to eventual winners Spain in the semi-final. They will be looking for an improvement on their 2013 efforts which saw them finish bottom of their group with 2 draws and a win. NIGERIA Nigeria beat Senegal 1-0 in the final of the CAF U-20 championship securing themselves a 7th African U-20 title plus a berth at this year s big event in New Zealand. This will be their 11th FIFA U-20 World Cup but surprisingly they have yet to win it. Beaten finalists in 1989 and 2005 they failed to make the quarter-finals in 2013, going down 2-1 to Uruguay in the round of 16. SENEGAL Despite their consistent performances at senior level this is the first time Senegal have qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Having lost to Nigeria in their opening game in the CAF qualifying tournament, they were within minutes of an early exit when 3-2 down to Cote D Ivoire before scoring twice in the last 3 minutes. They eventually finished runners-up to Nigeria, going down 1-0 in the final. QUALIFIED NATIONS

QUALIFIED NATIONS: CONCACAF MEXICO Mexico qualified for New Zealand after winning the CONCACAF qualifying tournament earlier in the year. El Tri captured their third consecutive regional title their 13th U-20 CONCACAF title overall. This will be Mexico s 14th appearance in the finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup finishing runners up in the first tournament in 1977 and claiming third place in the 2011 tournament. PANAMA Panama finished runner up to Mexico in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament after going through group play without conceding a goal. This will be Panama s fifth appearance at a FIFA U-20 World Cup after qualifying for the finals in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2011. Panama will be looking for their first win at the finals after securing just two draws from their previous campaigns. USA This will be the USA s thirteenth appearance in the finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup competitions. The USA haven t appeared at this stage however since 2009 in Egypt. Their best performance came in the finals in Saudi Arabia in 1989, when, as last minute replacements for Mexico, they reached the semi finals before losing to Nigeria. HONDURAS Honduras have been a semi regular attendee at past tournaments. The FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 will be there sixth time at the finals after qualifying in 1977, 1995, 1999, 2005 and 2009. Honduras recorded two wins in 1977 and finished second in their group but only the winners qualified for the play off stages. QUALIFIED NATIONS

QUALIFIED NATIONS: CONMEBOL ARGENTINA Argentina have a rich history in this tournament having been winners a record 6 times (1979, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2007). Their first win in 1979 was masterminded by a young Diego Maradona and their victorious 2005 side included Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. They will be determined to make their mark in New Zealand having missed out on qualification for the 2013 edition. BRAZIL Winner of a record 11 Conmebol U-20 titles, Brazil are second only to Argentina in FIFA U-20 World Cup wins with 5 successes (1983, 1985, 1993, 2003, 2011). They, along with Argentina, failed to qualify for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup with both sides inexplicably finishing bottom of their qualifying groups. Their last success in 2011 culminated in a thrilling 3-2 extra-time win over Portugal. COLOMBIA 3 times winners of the South American U-20 title they finished runners-up this year to Argentina on way to booking their place in New Zealand. This will be their 9th FIFA U-20 World Cup but they are yet to win with their best result being 3rd in 2003. They made the round of 16 in 2013 before losing on penalties (8-7) to South Korea. URUGUAY 7 times winners of the South American U-20 title, Uruguay have a strong record at FIFA U-20 World Cups. This will be their 13th visit to the finals and although they haven t won it yet they have been runners-up twice (1997, 2013) as well as making the last 4 on three other occasions. In 2013 they took France all the way through extra-time in the final before succumbing 4-1 on penalties. QUALIFIED NATIONS

QUALIFIED NATIONS: OFC NEW ZEALAND - HOST NATION As hosts New Zealand did not have the benefit of a qualifying campaign which, at this level, is normally a valuable source of international experience. However, coach Darren Bazeley has put together a thorough and diverse preparatory schedule with the team s international outings commencing in earnest in May 2014. New Zealand have appeared in just three FIFA U-20 World Cups for a return of two draws and seven defeats over their nine matches in the competition. The Junior All Whites made their first appearance at Canada in 2007, in the wake of Australia s move to the Asian Football Confederation. FIJI With New Zealand hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015, Oceania s aspirants entered the May 2014 qualifiers in the knowledge they had an unusually elevated opportunity to win through to the global showpiece. Fiji produced a near-perfect campaign in the six-nation event on home soil, dropping just two points in a 2-2 draw against nearest challengers Vanuatu before eventually beating Solomon Islands 2-1 in the final. While Fiji have a long and proud football tradition in Oceania, the current squad will be creating history as the first to represent the nation at a FIFA tournament. Tahiti is the only Oceanian nation outside Australia and New Zealand to previously feature at a FIFA U-20 World Cup (2009). QUALIFIED NATIONS

QUALIFIED NATIONS: UEFA GERMANY Inspired by the senior team that finished victorious at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Germany booked their ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 by winning the UEFA European U-19 Championship in Hungary. Germany have participated in the tournament nine times, most recently in Egypt in 2009 winning the title once in 1981 as West Germany. The former East Germany also took part in two FIFA U-20 World Cup tournaments. PORTUGAL Portugal qualified for New Zealand after finishing runners up at the UEFA European U-19 Championships. This will be Portugal s tenth appearance at this event and their third consecutive qualification. Portugal have won the title on two previous occasions in 1989 and 1991. They finished runners up in 2011. AUSTRIA Austria punched their ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 by reaching the semi finals at the UEFA European U-19 Championship. This will be the fifth time that Austria have competed at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Austria s biggest success in this tournament came in the 2007 edition in Canada, when they lost in the semi-finals to the Czech Republic and finished fourth after a 1-0 defeat to Chile in the third-place play-off. HUNGARY Third-place finishers at the FIFA U-20 World Cup four years ago in Colombia, Hungary only qualified for the upcoming tournament by the skin of their teeth as best third place finisher from the group stage. Hungary have participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup on five occasions, the first four of which saw them eliminated at the group stage. Their best-ever tournament performance came the last time they qualified, in Egypt in 2009, when they lost to eventual winners Ghana in the semi-finals and beat Costa Rica on penalties in the third-place play-off. SERBIA Serbia are making their FIFA U-20 World Cup debut as an independent nation at New Zealand 2015. The former Yugoslavia appeared twice in the competition, at Japan 1979 and Chile 1987, winning the title on the second of those occasions. UKRAINE Ukraine s progression to FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 became a welcome boost for this nation. This will be their third appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Ukrainians previously competed at the 2001 and 2005 editions, qualifying from the group stage on each occasion only to lose in the last 16 to Paraguay and Nigeria respectively. QUALIFIED NATIONS
