REGIONAL AWARDS: Gavin Green and Victor Perez each were selected to the 2014 Division I PING All-West Region Team, as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. LAST EVENT TAVISTOCK COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL: In Orlando, Fla., against a tough field, the 11th-ranked University of New Mexico men s golf team played another solid round of golf in the final round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. Unfortunate, so did the rest of the impressive, 15-team field. The Lobos shot a 1-under 287 during Tuesday s final round to finish the tournament with a 7-under 857 and a tie for eighth place in the event with Mountain West rival UNLV. Third-ranked Florida State rallied past No. 16 Vanderbilt in the final round to win the tournament with a 37-under 827 (270-282-275). The Commodores shot a 35-under 829 (271-279-279=829) to finish ahead of host and No. 10 Texas Tech (267-287- 284=838, -26). Previously unbeaten and top-ranked Illinois finished fourth with a 23-under 841 (276-289-276), followed by No. 47 North Florida (278-288-283=849, -15). We played similarly all three days, coach Glen Millican said. The weather was perfect the first day, which accounted for the lower scores. It was a good test for us because we didn t anticipate the scores being as low as they were, so we ve got to take advantage when the course is scoring lower. Senior Gavin Green led UNM with an 8-under 208 (67-71-70), good for a tie for ninth place, five strokes behind winner Hunter Stewart of Vanderbilt. Stewart shot a 13-under 203 (65-72-66). 2013-14 New Mexico men s golf *4

Bevins, a sophomore was 2-under 214 (68-72-74) for a tie for 26th, and Saunders shot a 1-under 215 (73-72-70) for a 29th-place tie. Senior Victor Perez finished with a 1-over 73 and a 54-hole total of 9-over 225 and a tie for 66th. Junior Nelson da Silva Ramos shot 18-over 234 (79-75-80) to tie for 74th. In each of the last two rounds, we made a nice recovery at the end of the round after we made a few mistakes in the middle of the rounds. If we could ve cut those down, we could ve passed a few more good teams. We had a decent score but we know we can play better. The Lobos will get an opportunity to get back out on the course quickly when they travel to Dallas for the Royal Oaks Invitational next Monday-Tuesday. LAST YEAR ROYAL OAKS INTERCOLLEGIATE: In Dallas, Texas, the 18th-ranked University of New Mexico men s golf team made an early charge in the final round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate but could not sustain its momentum on the back nine and finished fourth in the 12-team event. The Lobos shot a final-round 2-under 353 to finish the tournament at 16-under 1,049 (354-342-353), 20 strokes behind the winner and third-ranked Oklahoma State (340-349- 340=1,029), which finished at 36 under. No. 11 Stanford was second at 20-under 1,045 (349-346-350), followed by host and No. 19 Baylor (345-353-350) at 17-under 1,048. The event at the par-71 Royal Oaks Country Club featured six-player teams with the top five players scores counting toward that team s score each round. UNM was 7-under through the front nine but cooled off to a 5-over on the back nine. The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate was UNM s last event of the fall. This tournament was a good finish to the fall for us, coach Glen Millican said. I m proud of the guys for bouncing back from a tough tournament in Florida. All six of our guys contributed significantly, and all played very well to head into the offseason. Junior Victor Perez continued his recent hot streak, finishing at the top Lobo at 8-under 205 for a fifth-place tie (67-69-69=205). He was three strokes behind individual medalist Kevin Dougherty (63-68-71-202, 11 under) of Oklahoma State. Dougherty s teammate, Wyndham (66-72-65=203) and SMU s Austin Smotherman (67-68-68=203) tied for second at 10 under. Perez tied for the team best at last week s Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at 1 over and has shot 11 under par over his last seven rounds of golf. As a team, UNM finished 12th among the 15 teams at the Isleworth. True freshman Andre Bevins (70-66-71) finished in a tie for 10th place at 6-under 207 after shooting an even-par 71 during Tuesday s final round. Junior Gavin Green tied for 15th at 4-under 209 (71-69-69). Fellow junior Sam Saunders finished tied for 22nd with a 2-under 211 (73-67-71). Junior Sean Romero (74-71-73) tied for 49th, and sophomore Joe Abella tied for 59th in the field of 72 after posting a 7-over 220. This team has good depth and tremendous fight, Millican said.
