A reminder that no volunteers are to direct traffic.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities Intersection Marshals 8:30am Provide information to drivers that are not participating in the parade regarding parking areas, road closures do not direct traffic; follow police or TCP instructions Assist Police with public crossing at intersections and help the parade run smoothly from start to finish Stand at barriers and explain the alternate route to drivers Answer questions (you will be given transit, traffic & parking info)
Volunteer R&R Cont d Registration Marshals 8/830am Point floats toward their designated parking area; registration rep will come Guide people being dropped off to the appropriate numbered area or inside City Hall if it s raining Follow direction of registration lead you are assigned to Once the parade starts, ensure floats are ready to go at their allotted times and don t move forward until directed to do so Stays at the registration area until all entries have left the dispersal area and numbers etc. removed from streets Provides assistance to the VIP s as required Changes to float order will be managed by the staff Chris Leon &/or Darcel Moro
Volunteer R&R cont d Route Marshalls (Parade Route) 9:30am Move barriers away from business driveways and help drivers with directions all traffic moves westbound after 10am then No exit after 10:30am. Port Moody Police and the City of Port Moody staff will control all vehicle traffic areas and intersections Keep members of the public from encroaching on the parade Answer questions (you will be given transit, traffic & parking info)
Volunteer R&R cont d Float Dispersal (End of Route) - 10am Keep the end of the route clear of pedestrians Walkers disperse before the Rocky Point parking lot and can meet in a designated meeting area inside Rocky Point Park VIP s are allowed to stop in the Rocky Point Park parking lot only to allow passengers out Ensure floats keep moving and leave the area when safe to do so Allow trucks to unload and pack up once they are safely parked
City Staff vs Volunteer Roles Staff is in charge of the event Staff controls & direct traffic Staff give official clearance for parade to start Staff cleans street and event area; volunteers can help take down event signs (i.e. stay on sidewalk, reserved event parking) Lost child stay where you are with the child and contact staff If you feel threatened or there is an emergency contact 911 If a member of the public is non-threatening but confrontational call city staff If you are asked a question and you do not know the answer contact city staff
All Volunteers Have fun and keep safe Prior to your shift register in Galleria; pick up name tag, volunteer t-shirt, safety vest, information package & refreshments Post shift check out at Galleria or VIP tent near Rocky Point Park, return safety vest Lost children and First Aid Emergency call 911 Minor Emergency & Lost child please call Darcel 604-808-9624 Ensure the parade route is clean & communicate with City of Port Moody staff if an area requires attention
All Volunteers PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE AT YOUR LOCATION FOR THE START OF YOUR SHIFT. ARRIVE EARLY!! Judging of all entrants takes place at 10am Road crew city staff will be wearing a different vest to volunteers.
