This includes in-ground, above-ground and on-ground swimming pools, hot tubs and spas. You must submit ALL of the following items in order for your permit to be processed: Permit Application Must be completely filled out. Pool Specifications Manufacturer s brochure showing type of pool and size. (3 Copies) Copy of Plat of Survey Must show the location of the pool, setbacks to house, property lines and overhead and underground electric power lines. (3 Copies) Secure utility (JULIE) locate if electrical service is underground. 1-800-892-0123 Electrical Devices Brochure showing specifications for all electrical devices (for example: filters, lights, pumps and heaters) and description of electricity source. NOTE: In-ground installations require additional plans. Contact the Building Division for further details. Your permit cannot be processed without ALL of the above items.
Residential Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub A permit is required for all pools, as defined in the 2012 International Residential Code: SWIMMING POOL Any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that contains water more than 24 inches (610mm) deep. This includes in-ground, aboveground and on-ground swimming pools, hot tubs and spas. 1. Permit Application: Submit a completed permit application along with 3 copies of the pool brochure with specifications from the manufacturer and drawings showing type of pool, size, and electrical devices ((for example: filters, lights, pumps and heaters) All electrical components shall be UL (or other Nationally Registered Testing Lab) listed and installed per listing. Three (3) copies of the Plat of Survey must also be submitted showing the pool s exact location on the lot. Any electrical work done shall be by a licensed electrician, registered with the Village as required by Ordinance or the homeowner. NOTE: In-ground installations require detailed plans showing concrete work, electrical diagram, etc. 2. Placement on lot: See attached drawings for interior, corner and reverse corner lots. 3. Code Requirements: All pools, accessory buildings, and materials shall conform to the International Residential Code, including Appendix G, 2012 Edition, and the National Electrical Code, 2011 Edition. A vacuum breaker is required at any hose connection. 4. Barrier and Fence Code Requirements: Barrier requirements for pools, in ground and above ground, as well as spas and hot tubs are listed in Appendix G which is included in this handout. Please review it carefully and comply. All fences require a fence permit, which may be included on the application for the swimming pool permit or issued under a separate over-the-counter permit. The Village has regulations regarding fence height, placement, and construction. These regulations may be found in Section 155.205 of the Lombard Zoning Ordinance, which is available online at www.villageoflombard.org. 5. Open Space Requirement: All residential lots must maintain 50% open space, meaning that of the entire lot 50% of as grass, landscaping, etc., and cannot be covered by structures or surfaces of any type. 6. Size: The combined area of all accessory structures (swimming pools, decks, sheds, etc.) may not exceed the ground floor area of the principal residence on the property. No single accessory structure may exceed 10% of the lot area.

Water Supply and Control: No source of water, other than that secured from the Village of Lombard waterworks distribution system, shall be used in private pools. However, those persons having wells on their property providing potable water, as approved by the Building Division may use such well for the purpose of filling their pool. If a hose connection from a sillcock or other plumbing fixture is to be used for supplying make-up water or filling purposes, then an approved vacuum breaker shall be installed between the sillcock or control valve at the fixture on the hose connection. All backwash water and effluents shall be discharged to the sewer through an indirect connection. Drainage of any pool shall be carefully controlled and provided for so that such drainage shall not cause flooding or damage to adjacent property.
