1 FLAT WRITE! The Monthly Newsletter of Carlton and District Motor Club AUGUST 2015 EDITORIAL and COMMITTEE NEWS Please note that the first clubnight in August will be preceeded by a Committee Meeting and followed by the usual club meeting. Please note: this will be held at the Star Inn venue in Beeston CLASSICS IN FRANCE Here is a teaser for the classic car anoraks out there - Eddie recently returned from holiday in Brittany and spotted a classic car meeting nearby. The six cars and bikes pictured are a bit of a mystery and the first person to hand me a list of correct identities at the next Star Inn club night will receive two drinks coupons. (The

2 coupons are part of the CDMC teams winnings from the last club night when we finished the pub Quiz in second place on tie break). I have not received any reports from members on July club activities but I know that a marshalling team ran the finish control on Dukeries Flying Fortress multi-use Stage rally held at Grafton Underwood. They had to cope with a timing equipment malfunction but coped well and enjoyed the day. Sadly Rob Lowes Subaru failed to start the event due to a faulty radiator but he is expected to blitz next Sundays Eastwood Motor Club Phoenix Stages at Fulbeck. Clive and Anji have been having fun with their Escort in a field at Loughborough Car Clubs summer evening Autosolo meetings. The Nottingham Classic Tour ran on a very wet day but everyone I have spoken to enjoyed the event. Based at Papplewick Pumping Station, the tourers received breakfast at the start and a hog roast after the 125 mile run. The event was once again part of the HRCR Classic Tour Series.

3 The latest shock for Rally competitors will be another revised safety requirement from January 2016 when Hans devices will be mandatory for all competitors on Stage Rallies. The only exception will be Category One historic rally entrants I realise that many competitors already use these devices but the minimum cost of complying will be around 1000 per car as new helmets will also be required ( this is just for entry level equipment!) Carlton members have been invited to the Rolls Royce Heritage open day at the Derby site, read the details on the following flyer. open day poster.pdf REPORTS The Nottingham Classic run Sunday 25th July 2015 Report promised and to follow!
