Tennessee Valley Mopar Club Newsletter April 2008 Tennessee Valley Mopar Club, P.O. Box 2042 Huntsville, AL 35804 E-mail: tvmoparclub@yahoo.com Website: http://www.tvmoparclub.com Newsletter Editor: glover4350@bellsouth.net Next Club Meeting The next meeting is 19 April 2008 at The Optimist Club, from 0800-1000a.m. Attached is a map showing where the club is located. We have an important meeting coming up this weekend and each and every one of you needs to attend. First, we will be having a presentation by our new Vice President, George Zoller on cam shaft installations on big block engines. The rest of the time will be spent covering show planning preparations. Time is getting short and before we know it our event will be here. We will need each and every one of you to lend a hand during the Show & Go to make our show come off without any hitches. Your volunteer efforts are what makes it happen and we will need each and every one of you! 703 Oakwood Ave, Huntsville, AL, 256-427-5775 If you are on the Memorial Parkway, exit on Oakwood going east. The Optimist Recreation Center is the 2 nd left past Andrew Jackson Way. 1

March Meeting We had yet another great membership meeting in March. We were back at the Optimist Club and a good time was had by all. We had a lot of members last month and look forward to seeing more of you this month. We had a presentation by Bob Glover showing the progress of the new garage. The garage is coming along nicely, and should have lights on by the time you read this letter. Wrenching If you re working on your project car and need some assistance, let us know so we can get the word out ahead of time and schedule a Wrenching at your place. Mopar Humor My (blonde) wife proofs this letter and insists I disavow any knowledge of the following! A few days ago I was having some work done at my local Dodge Dealer. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other and another customer asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I have lost it and need a new one.." She replied that she did not know exactly what it was, but this piece had always been there. The mechanic gave her a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had its hood up and asked "is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it s right there." 2

Product Page You E-body guys out there needing good fenders for your project take note. Goodmark, a leader in aftermarket sheet metal for car restoration, has announced that they are now manufacturing new fenders for 70-71 and 72-74 Cuda s and Challenger s. The new fenders are stamped from heavy gauge steel and are Electro Deposit Primer (EDP) coated for the ultimate in rust protection. These fenders are available now and are priced from $599 to $649 depending on model and year needed. For more information, check out www.goodmarkindustries.com. The next item on the agenda for you E-body fans is a new roof. What? Yes, a new roof. As most of you E-body fans know, many a car has been left in the weeds because of a rotted, rusted-out roof. Many Cuda s and Challenger s were produced with vinyl roofs and over the decades, moisture penetration under the covering has caused enough damage to actually turn a coupe into a convertible. Now there is no need to leave that Challenger in the barn, just call up Auto Metal Direct and order your new E-body Roof Skin. They are just releasing new roof skins for 70-74 E-Bodies that provide excellent fit and finish. For more information, contact Auto Metal Direct at www.autometaldirect.com. 7

Editor s Corner Hello again. Here we are working through the end of winter and approaching spring. Before you know it we will be bringing the Mopars out of hiding, going to cruise-ins, car shows and Sunday afternoon drives through the country in the warm sun. But for now the most important thing you need to do is renew your TVMC membership! This is the last request that will be made for you folks that are slow to renew your membership. If your renewal is not received by the end of the month, you will be removed from the active rolls of Tennessee Valley Mopar. Did you guys notice? Well, did you? Go back up to the TVMC Events and note that there are only 5 officer and general membership meetings left before our club show on 14 June. That means that we will be devoting a good deal of time over the next month or so on show planning and assigning volunteers to work in various areas. Please take the time to meet with us this Saturday and get an idea of what we need you guys to do. Wow, I have discovered a good deal of Mopar news that I would like to discuss with you here. Last month, I shared my excitement of the Daytona 500 finish and my hope that Chrysler will again be the car to beat every Sunday. This month I have more news from NASCAR to share. The bosses at NASCAR are having trouble securing good sponsorship for the junior series, formally Busch Series, and are now inclined to shake things up a bit. If the current talk becomes reality, NASAR will have the junior series drivers competing in musclecars. Yes, you read that correctly, they may be driving new generation Challenger s, Camaro s, Mustang s and a yet to be named Toyota model. That would be very cool in my book. In other news, mother Mopar has released some more numbers concerning the new Challenger. These numbers are weeks old but the latest I could find. To date, there are over 9,000 confirmed orders for the new car and Chrysler has announced that they will deliver 6,400 for the 2008 model year. That means that there are already over 2,600 orders for 2009 models. It certainly seems that the new Challenger will be a smashing hit. Mother has also announced through Mopar Performance, that they will be marketing a new small block crate engine. The 410 Magnum Six-Pack crate engine will be based on a brand new 340 block with 4 bolt mains, high flow Magnum R/T heads, high lift hydraulic cam and has a 4 stroker crank. It s rated at 450 hp and has 475 lb-ft of torque out of the box. Anyone planning an engine swap soon? I m looking for other member project photos to go in future issues of the Newsletter Project Page. Send me yours today! Until next time. v/r Bob 8

Project Page This months Project Page features a few shots of Roy s Pro Street Cuda in primer. The first picture is a full body picture of the car. The second shot of Roy s car is down the passenger side quarter panel. Things are starting to take shape and I m sure Roy is itching to get it back home and reassemble. 9
