Tornadoes Win Mite Battle of the Valley 6 to 1 Kent, WA 4 October, 2008 The Battle of the Valley looked like it could go either way until 5:37 into the first period when a Wilson to McCorkle pass provided the opening act for the JT Rimorin show. Rimorin put on a three-act performance scoring two goals in the first and one in the second for a Hat Trick performance. Rimorin provided an encore near the end of the third period scoring his fourth goal off a Trevor Mertel rebound shot. Trevor Mertel scored the Tornadoes fourth goal off a tip from Daniel Smith at 5:30 of the second period. The Tornadoes Daniel Smith scored with help from Blake Britten to open third period scoring. Brandon Lajoie got the lone Lightning goal off a pass from Elliot Bucci. The Lightning score sent an electrical shock through the Lightning supporters in the stands; they jumped up, cheered, rattled a cow bell and held up Go Lightning banners as Lajoie high-fived his teammates in front of the Tornadoes goal. Lajoie s goal stole a shutout from the Tornadoes goalie Nicholas Gill. Tornadoes goalie Nicholas Gill stopped 11 of 12 shots while Alex Bucci, goalie for the Lightning, turned away 8 of 14 shots. Both goalies played very well. The game was cleanly played with no penalties on either side. The Lightning look forward to a rematch later in the season. Tornadoes 1 5:37 JT Rimorin from Trevor McCorkle & Conner Wilson Tornadoes 1 11:17 JT Rimorin unassisted Tornadoes 2 4:40 JT Rimorin from Shane Watanabe Tornadoes 2 5:30 Trevor Mertel from Daniel Smith Tornadoes 3 4:40 Daniel Smith from Blake Britten Tornadoes 3 11:30 JT Rimorin from Trevor Mertel Lightning 3 13:40 Brandon Lajoie from Elliot Bucci Nail-Biter to the End Squirt Tornadoes take a 2-1 Loss in Season Opener Kirkland, WA October 4, 2008 The Squirt Tornadoes traveled to Kingsgate to play against Sno-King White. It was the season opener for the Tornadoes and the jitters were palpable. The Tornadoes displayed an it ain't over till the last whistle blows kind of attitude. Playing hard and they kept those shots coming. Too bad the clock ran out on us and the Sno-King goalie, Caleb Stovold was part octopus. He had a great day in goal stopping our 18 shots and only allowing 1 in. WOW! Conner Pitlick scored the only Tornado goal, the first for him this season. Seth Barnett had an equally great day in goal. He took on 15 shots only allowing in 2. Way to go Seth! Sean Blair razzle-dazzled us in the 3rd period with a breakaway from our zone into our opponent s deking around players like they were cones. He got the shot off but was denied a goal. Way to hustle Sean! Kean Zurn did a great job holding his position and making puck contact when the opportunities presented themselves. Caelan Byrnes skated hard and kept his side of the ice covered. Great hustle displayed by Briana Baker on defense! When we get those game jitters settled it should make for an exciting season. Great job Tornadoes!! Story by Kristine Langmack Sno-King 1 11:30 W. Branco unassisted Sno-King 2 10:00 D. Satagas unassisted KVHA 3 2:33 Conner Pittlick unassisted Tomahawks Stun Squirt Selects in 3 rd Period Kent, WA October 4, 2008 The KVHA Squirt Tier-II Selects scored midway through the 1 st period on a Nicholas Snyder scored, assisted by JJ Blondin and Elliot Plourde, to take the early lead. The Selects held onto the one-goal lead through most of the exhibition game in Tacoma Saturday until the Tomahawks scored their first goal with 8:59 remaining in the third period. Dawson Butt scored an unassisted goal to tie the game and begin a stunning run to a Tomahawk victory. Jonathan Thompson scored a minute later on assists from Dawson Butt and Kyle Katras. A minute later, Katras added the 3 rd and final Tomahawk s goal on an assist from Jonathan Thompson making the final score 3 to 1. The story of this game was the large quantity of shots on goal, 27 by the Tomahawks and 40 by the Selects. Penalties were even between the two teams with four each. Seattle Jr. Blades Dominate PeeWee Hurricanes Kent, WA October 4, 2008 The KVHA PeeWee Hurricane s Jonathan Gonzales scored an unassisted goal midway through the first period to take an early lead for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes gave the lead away late in the first period when the Blades scored their first of five goals. Hurricane goalie Aron Matthews stopped 17 of 22 shots while his teammates managed only five shots on the Seattle Jr. goal. The Hurricanes took 3 penalties while the Blades remained penalty free. PeeWee Tornadoes Fall to Seattle Jr. Eagles 0-2 Lynnwood, WA October 4, 2008 An incomplete score sheet didn t portray the real story of this game. The score sheet indicated only four shots by the Tornadoes, which simply wasn t true, and ten shots by the Eagles, which was also fiction. In reality, the Tornadoes and Eagles both managed much more offense than reported on paper and both goalies deserve more credit than the score sheet indicates. Congratulations to both teams on a very close match. Bantam Tornadoes Upset in Home Opener Kent, WA 5 October, 2008 In their home opener of the NPSHL Schedule the Tornadoes were upset losing to the KCHA Outlaws 2-1. It was a tight defensive game throughout the first period with each team only getting 4 shots on net. The Tornadoes would take the lead in the second with Erin Byrnes getting Power Play goal from Brendan Laik. The Tornadoes would hold their own through the rest of the period killing off two penalties despite being outshot. The Tornadoes would give up a power play goal early in the third allowing the Outlaws to tie it up and shift the momentum. The Outlaws would score again with 4 mins left to take the lead 2-1. Dane Shaver who got MVP faced 22 shots. The Tornadoes despite being KVHA News 10/07/2008 Page 3 of 6

disappointed with the loss look forward to facing the Jr. Thunderbirds next Sat. at Castle Ice. The five Kudos awards went to: - MVP: Dane Shaver - Dish: Brady Anderson and Brendan Laik - Hardest Worker: Will Walkey - Best Defensive Player: Neil Dhanda - The Santa Claus award was not handed out this week Story by Mary MacDonald A scoring summary is below: KVHA 2 4:08 Erin Byrnes from Brendan Laik Kitsap 3 11:34 Freedy Perkins from Justin Totura & AJ Baron Kitsap 3 4:14 Nate Greason from Anthony Frey & Kevin Sevigny Midget Tornadoes Score League Win Bremerton, WA October 5, 2008 The Midget Tornadoes traveled to Bremerton Sunday to take on the Kitsap County Outlaws in the first league game of the season. The Tornadoes played a great passing game and came home with the win. But, it was the Outlaws who were on the scoreboard first, as the Tornadoes got off to a slow start. Eventually, things turned around for Kent as the guys took advantage of their power plays. Defenseman Ben Fleming tied things up in the second period with a shot from the blue line assisted by Taylor Birkeland. Jared Prado dropped one in behind the goalie in the third off of an assist by Zac Cadiente to score the game winning goal. Two insurance goals sealed the deal as Blake Walsh scored off of a great pass from Zac Cadiente and Sam Bartels, while Taylor Birkeland knocked one in thanks to a stellar set-up by Justin Hill-Sellers. The Tornadoes win their first league game 4-1. Story by Sheri Walsh Kitsap 1 :58 Adam Ray Maker, unassisted KVHA 2 1:02 Ben Fleming from Taylor Birkeland KVHA 3 14:43 Jared Prado from Zac Cadiente KVHA 3 8:16 Blake Walsh from Zac Cadiente & Sam Bartels KVHA 3 7:33 Taylor Birkeland from Justin Hill-Sellers Midget Tier-II Selects Host Everett Jr. Silvertips Kent, WA October 4, 2008 It was supposed to be a friendly Saturday night exhibition game but it turned into a virtual bear fight with the principal victims being sportsmanship, fair play and the image of youth hockey. The final score isn t worth noting other than to say, the Selects scored often and the Jr. Silvertips not at all. The only thing worse than the disparity in the final score, was the record of penalties. The Selects took 19 penalties for 57 minutes and the Silvertips took 23 penalties for 76 minutes. Four players and both coaches will sit out their next game as they serve suspensions. This wasn t a hockey game, it was a mauling. Hopefully, there won t be a rematch any time soon. What in the world went wrong here? KVHA News 10/07/2008 Page 4 of 6

Midget Tier-II Selects Fall to Sno-King Midgets Kent, WA October 5, 2008 The Midget Tier-II Selects, short a player and coach serving suspensions, travelled to Castle Ice in Renton to play Sno-King. Down 3-0 in the 2nd period, the Selects made a run at it getting as close as 3-2 before Sno-King scored a back-breaker late to seal a 4-2 victory on Sunday at Castle Ice. The Selects first goal was scored in the 2nd period when Joey Scherer set-up Steven Meginnes; the second and final goal came in the 3rd period from Jeremy Abendhoff who was assisted by Patrik Rojan. Story by Pete Brooks Midget U-18 AAA Selects Take Two in Portland Portland, OR October 5, 2008 Danny Lorenz s U-18 Selects travelled to Portland Sunday for back-to-back games against the Portland Jr. Winterhawks at Valley Ice Arena. Strangely enough, the Portland series was a replay of the games the two teams played to in Kent on September 20 th and 21 st. Scores then were 5 to 1 and 4 to 3 in favor the Selects. Ditto, this past weekend. Game 1, 7:15am Kent Valley Selects 5 vs. Portland Jr. Winterhawks 1 Ryan Corriveau was in goal for the Selects. Corriveau stopped 35 of 34 and survived 5 Portland power play opportunities. The Selects fired 32 shots on the Portland goal, finding the net on five of those shots. The Selects took 5 penalties for a total of 10 minutes. Portland had 6 penalties for 12 minutes. The referee awarded Portland a penalty shot at 8:51 of the third period. Corriveau easily turned away the shot by Portland s Kade King. A game scoring summary is below: Portland 1 14:34 Scott Moyer unassisted KVHA 1 6:14 Ryan Doner from Alex Tindal KVHA 1 4:27 Eliot Grauer from Corey James Eliot Grauer from Anthony Petruzzelli & Corey KVHA 2 2:00 James KVHA 2 1:04 Anthony Petruzzelli from Eliot Grauer KVHA 3 3:37 Anthony Petruzzelli unassisted Game 2, 11:30am Kent Valley Selects 4 vs. Portland Jr. Winterhawks 3 Sean MacFarlane guarded the goal for the Selects in the second game and stopped 30 of 34 Portland shots. The Selects fired 24 shots on the Portland s Matthew Hughes, scoring on 4 of those. Portland led the Selects by 1 goal through the entire second period and four minutes into the third period until Eliot Grauer tied it up with help from Corey James and Tyler Sybil. Two minutes later Portland took the lead again on a Scott Moyer goal. Eliot Grauer tied it up again with 7:31 remaining on an assist from Tyler Sybil. The chances for a Selects victory took a dive at 6:23 when Tyler Sybil was called for tripping. However, with the Selects down to four players and one anxious goalie, Anthony Petruzzelli picked up a tipped puck in the defensive zone skated full ice for the shorthanded and game winning goal.
