PWHS CHARACTER COUNTS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hanna Strohm Hanna has been a strong presence on our volleyball program for the past 4 years and this year is like none other. She is consistently the first into the gym and the last to leave the gym. Always willing to work on her game as she is playing a difficult position this year as our sole setter. She wants to make sure that her team is playing well, because that is a direct reflection on her as a player. She is continually positive and when it gets tough on the court she will keep working until the final ball hits the floor. Hanna is extremely coachable as she wants to get better everyday. She pushes herself to be a great teammate! She has led our team in assists all year, and is responsible for getting the ball to our hitters. Our match win against Grafton a few weeks ago, she was responsible for 27 assists to our hitters who were extremely efficient in that match. Last week against Whitefish Bay she was dominant at the net with 4 blocks and distributed the ball well getting 33 assists. Hanna is an incredible young woman who will always put others first. I am very proud to nominate her as our Port Pride Player of the Week! GIRLS VOLLEYBALL by Todd Lyon With homecoming and senor night as the focus for the week, our girls responded with a very entertaining final home match of the season. Pitted against Whitefish Bay, our girls came out in the first set with very consistent aggressive play. Taking an early lead that looked like we were going to pull away and claim the first set, then saw Bay make a late charge to tie the game and ultimately win the set. Aggressive early serving and offense was not enough to hold off Bay and their serve which took advantage of some late miscues by our girls. The first set score was 21-25. The second set saw a total breakdown with our play which was very inconsistent with a 12-25 loss. We bounced back in the third set with consistent play and aggressive serving taking that game 25-17. The fourth set was critical as we had to battle back from being down by 7 to tie and ultimately take the lead near the end of the set 23-21. Hitting errors by Port tied the set and then it was back and forth to 28-28. Long rallies and great defense was being played but Port ultimately fell 30-28. The girls played with high energy and with a focus. Disappointing loss but play that we can build on. Caitlin Schultz - 14 kills Maggie Schmitt - 20 digs Hanna Strohm - 33 assists Congratulations Hanna! 2 P age

GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVE by Melissa Hoogester Our last dual meet on the road was held at Grafton High School. The evening began with the 200 Medley relay team of Klassen, Ottesen, Sharbuno and Grady finishing third place with their best time by 6 seconds, 2:14.48!. Next up was Ottesen, swimming the 200 Freestyle for the first time this season, finishing an exciting second place with her time 2:13.73. Klassen (2:55.16) and Orvis (3:08.56) swam the 200 IM for their team finishing third and fourth places. Grady (33.35) had the opportunity to swim the 50 Freestyle for the first time this season finishing fourth place followed by Artamonova (34.11 a two second personal best!) working to better her time and finishing fifth place. Ottesen (1:12.89) and Klassen (1:36.09) were very excited to swim the 100 Butterfly for their team, both for the first time this season, finishing second and fourth places. Sharbuno swam one of the most exciting events of the evening! She came from behind to win the 100 Freestyle with her personal best time, 56.65 followed by McBride (1:12.45- a one second personal best!) finishing fifth place and Artamonova (1:16.38 a thirteen second personal best!) finishing sixth place. Orvis had the opportunity to swim the 500 Freestyle this evening for the first time this season and she did great! She finished fourth place with her time, 7:05.23! Artamonova, Orvis, Richlin and McBride swam the 200 Freestyle relay finishing third place with a 6 second drop on their best time, 2:40.89! It is been a little while since Sharbuno swam the 100 Backstroke, and she did awesome; she achieved a personal best time! She finished second place with her time, 1:07.82. McBride and Grady swam the 100 Breaststroke this evening, for Grady this was her first time swimming this event in her high school career! They both did fantastic finishing third and fourth places with their times, 1:38.82 a 6 second personal best for McBride, 1:52.73 respectively. The evening concluded with the 400 Freestyle relay swum by Ottesen, Klassen, Grady and Sharbuno finishing third place with their time, a best time by 11 seconds, 4:19.26. Artamonova, Orvis, Richlin and McBride swam the 400 Freestyle relays as well, they finished fourth place. McBride was last to enter the water, the Grafton teams and our A relay had finished, and all the girls from both teams were cheering Richlin and McBride on as they finished their race. It was one of the coolest moments of my coaching career! It is always a pleasure to swim against the Grafton team; they truly are a great team with the best sportsmanship, they have great talent and sweet girls! We also had the opportunity to see great swims, had great times and most importantly have lots of fun! GIRLS TENNIS by Jennifer Huettl Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Slinger, West Bend East, West Bend West, Plymouth, Hartford Union, Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac Doubles was equally impressive. Regan and Emily moved the ball around and played the net and had great placement. Laurel and Brooke worked well as a team and continued to improve throughout the match and Madeline and Rienne were aggressive and made some great shots. Our team continues to improve and challenge our opponents. On Tuesday, October 7th we went to Pleasant valley Tennis Club for subsectionals, facing team such as West Bend East and West, Plymouth, Slinger, Hartford, Fon du Lac and Beaver Dam. Almost all of our players were going against the one or two seed, but watching the matches was impressive. All of our players played at their best ability and gave their opponents a challenge. Lexi Longstaff played one singles and was noticed by the opposing coach from Slinger, who made sure to let her know what an impressive match she played and also came up to me at the end of the match to acknowledge that she is a player to watch. Maddy Feeney played two singles and moved the ball around with great control. She kept her shots low to the net and made her opponent work hard for the win. Allie Cofta played the one seed from West Bend East and proved once again why she moved up to Varsity. The opposing team coach and fans were very impressed, as they see the improvement over prior years. Jacqueline Hansen played four singles and kept the ball moving.
