FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who will pick me up at the airport? Please ignore this point if you are reading this manual when already in Malta. A responsible school representative will pick you up at the airport. The school representative will be holding up a sign with your name. You may request the details of the person picking you up by sending an email to donovan@easysl.com. The school representative will take you to our residence where you will be met by a group leader and given a welcome pack. The welcome pack will include an information manual. You will also have a wristband in your folder. This wristband must be worn immediately and at all times. If you are staying at a host family, the family will collect you from the residence. How do I get to school? SOUTH PROGRAMME Cerviola Residence: At 08:30 everyday, a Group Leader will walk you to school. At 08:30 you must be waiting at reception and ready to go. Marsascala Host Family: Marsascala Host Family students can either go to Cerviola Residence (do not enter the residence but wait on the pavement outside) at 08:30 and walk it to school with the ones staying at the residence or make their own way directly to school. Your host family should show you the way on your first day. Whatever your choice, you must be at school by 08:45 as your lessons start at. NORTH PROGRAMME Bella Vista Residence: A school bus leaves Bella Vista Hotel daily at 08:15. What happens on my first day at school? 08:45-10:30 Welcome by staff members, Manual Placement test, distribution of student cards and introductory talk by a Group Leader 10:30-11:00 Break 11:00-4
What should I take to school? You need to take any necessary stationery. Those of you staying at host families need to bring along their packed lunch. You also need to take all your beach stuff as we will go to the beach immediately after your lessons. Do I have to attend all my lessons? You must attend all your lessons for a certificate to be awarded. If you are sick and unable to go to school, please inform a Group Leader. If you are staying at a Host Family, please inform your host family to report your absence on +356 79237555 before the start of your lessons. If you are late for lessons, you will automatically be marked as absent and this will be shown in your certificate. Do I have to join in all the activities? You must attend all the activities you are entitled to. If you are feeling sick and are unable to attend a particular activity, please inform a Group Leader. You must sign your name on the paper provided for each activity attended. Although you will be reminded, you are the one responsible to bring along your hat / cap, sun protection, sun glasses etc. to beach-related activities. Can I go out unsupervised? For no reason whatsoever should you go out unsupervised by a Group Leader irrespective of your age or what your parents/guardians allow you to do. This applies to all times of the day. Host family students should be accompanied by a responsible adult member of the host family should they wish to go out. During the school break you are not allowed to leave the school premises. 5
Are there any curfew times? Students who do not have a foreign group leader, irrespective of their age or what their parents legal/guardians allow them to do, must stay till the end of the activity so we may all go back to the residence/host family as a group. The following curfew times only apply during evening supervised chill-out time, beach club and sport evenings if you are accompanied by a foreign group leader from your particular agency/school. 11-15 years: 22:00hrs 16-17 years: 23:00hrs Who will give me my packed lunch and what should it include? If you are staying at a host family, you will be given your packed lunch before going to school. If you are staying in Cerviola or Bella Vista Hotel, a Group Leader will give you your packed lunch right after your lesson. Your packed lunch is not to be eaten on the bus. Your packed lunch should include fresh bread, a bottle of water and a fruit. A packet of crisps might also be offered. Should you wish to buy other stuff, there are vending machines at your school selling water and ice-tea. Are there any specific rules I should be aware of? Smoking and drinking alcohol are not allowed. Any students caught smoking or drinking alcohol could be sent home at the manager s discretion. Group leaders are authorised to perform spot-checks. Nobody is allowed to use the swimming pool before 08:00am or after 20:00hrs. Nobody is allowed to swim unless a group leader is supervising the swimming pool area. Diving and jumping are strictly forbidden. Do not make any noise after 23:00hrs. Lights in your room must be out by midnight at the latest. You should always be fully clothed (not in your bikini) at school, in the restaurant, on the street, reception area or at home. Are there any disciplinary measures in place? The Leisure and Social Welfare Manager may at his own discretion, ground, report students to agents/parents/legal guardians in cases of unruly behaviour. Students caught sleeping in the rooms of other students, doing drugs, smoking or buying cigarettes, engaging in any form of sexual behaviour, bullying other students, diving off high rocks during beach activities, jumping form one balcony to another or performing any other dangerous undertakings and swimming in the pool outside the hours outlined above will be expelled without notice. The parents/legal guardians of the student/s will have to make the necessary flight and other financial arrangements within 24 hours of expulsion. We are a fun team but the health and safety of every student in our care is our priority. Any useful tips to make my stay a more enjoyable, productive hasslefree and doctor-free? Try speaking English at all times. Do not simply mix with students of the same nationality. Let us all make an effort to learn English through English! Any valuable items such as tablets and laptops should be locked up in your luggage. 6
Do not take such valuable items to the beach. We will not be held responsible for any lost or misplaced items. Do not carry large amounts of money just enough money to see you through the day. You might wish to carry more money on the days where shopping is included as part of the programme. Please check your room for any visible damages. Should there be any damages please inform a Group Leader. If you damage anything, you will unfortunately have to pay for it. Always leave your key at reception before going out of the hotel. If you lose your hotel key, you will have to pay a minimum amount of 40 at reception. If you have one, please keep European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in your wallet or purse at all times. Medical Assistance given to students by the state hospital or state clinic is free of charge as long as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is presented. If you are not in possession of this card, you will have to pay. If you are covered by a health insurance, you can claim the money once you re back in your home country upon presentation of any receipts. Make sure that your parents/legal guardians have sent us the Emergency and Consent form. Keep the student card in your wallet or purse. Save the 24/7 emergency number on your mobile (+356 79237555). Always apply plenty of sun block (cream) and wear a cap / hat at all times when you are out on activities. You should also drink plenty of water. Who should I speak to if I have a problem during my stay? For any academic problems please approach your teacher or the academic manager. For any other problems please approach a Group Leader. What if I need to see a doctor? If you are staying at a host family, you may ask them to call their own private doctor. Doctors usually charge a minimum of 25 fee for a home visit. You will have to pay for the doctor on the spot. If you are staying at the residence, please consult a Group Leader. Once again, make sure that your parents/legal guardians have sent us the Emergency and Consent form. What about my departure transfer? A school representative will drive you to the airport. The meeting point is the residence. You will be informed of the pick-up time by a group leader. If you are part of the South programme, please wait on the pavement outside Cerviola residence.
