For this reason, no prize money is paid by the Ministry. However, the German Foundation for the Promotion of Sports (Deutsche Sporthilfe) is a non-profit private association which grants German top athletes prize money and other types of assistance. It is funded from donations, revenues from events and national lotteries, and postage stamps dedicated to sport aspects. The foundation pays performance bonuses for achievements in disciplines made at the highest-level competition in a given season.
