12 Get to know your park and rec department, the benefits are endless In a nationwide study on the benefit of local recreation and park services, Pennsylvania State University shared the following: The vast majority of the American public uses local recreation and park services. Park and playground use is the most common use. Park and recreation service use continues through the life cycle. Recreational participation declines with age but park use does not. The majority of people that do not use parks and recreation services still perceive substantial benefit from them. Local parks and recreation are associated with a sense of community.
