Welcome to The 2017 North East of England Irish Dance Championships 25th Anniversary Feis This year we will celebrate 25 years of hosting the Championships and will endeavour to make this a very special occasion for all of you attending. Open Championships from under 10 upwards will take place on Saturday 21st January. All grade competitions, Preliminary Championships and under 5yrs to under 9yrs competitions will take place on Sunday 22nd January 2017. The top five dancers in Open and preliminary competitions will receive sashes/pennants as well as our fabulous awards. There will be an award for the highest placed male or female dancer in each championship excluding the Championship winner. Plus we will continue to recognise our highest placed North East dancer. In the Trophy Reel Competitions the top 5 placed dancers will receive trophies, with the winner also receiving a sash. There will be an overall teachers award presented in each grade section. All grade and prelim competitions will run on Sunday 22nd January, where we will introduce a parade of Champions and 1st place Trophy winners. As always we have a fabulous line up of musicians and adjudicators and look forward to enjoying the amazing dancing our event attracts. (Excluding under 6 & under 7 Championships). A dancer can win one Preliminary Championship in a calendar year. (January - December), the following year the dancer will be eligible to compete again in a preliminary championship. Preliminary championships will be held in yearly age groups providing there are 5 or more competitors. If there are less than 5 they will run in double age groups. RULES GOVERNING FEIS 1. Please forward entries signed by registered teacher to Feis Secretary on or before 10th January 2017. Feis Secretary:B.Slater ADCRG 10 Lytham Close, Hadrian Park, Wallsend. NE28 9TJ 2. Age to be taken from 1st January 2017. Entries may only be accepted from teachers registered with An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha. 3. The Adjudicators decision is final. Prizes will be awarded in accordance with CLRG rules. 4. Beginner competitions are open to dancers who have never won a 1st place in that particular dance in any age group. The Beginners Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Beginner Reel and have not previously won a Beginners Trophy Reel. Only basic steps may be performed. No clicks or rocks. 5. Primary competitions are open to dancers who have never won a 1st place in that particular dance in any age group. (Excluding beginners). The Primary Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Primary Reel and have not previously won a Primary Trophy Reel competition in any age group. 6. If there are 15 or more competitors in any Beginners competition, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed dancers will move up to the next grade. If there are less than 15 dancers, only the 1st placed dancer will regrade. 7. Beginner & Primary competitions are open to all regions. Competitors are required to wear a class costume or a simple skirt/trouser with top. No make-up is allowed in Beginner & Primary grades up to and including the under 12 age group. 8. Intermediate competitions are open to dancers who have never won 1st place in that particular dance in their present age group. The Intermediate Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Intermediate Reel and have not previously won an Intermediate Trophy Reel in their present age group. 9. Where there are 5 or less competitors in a solo competition grades will not be effected. However a dancer may only win 3 such competitions, & then they will move to the next grade. 10. With the exception of the under 6 & under 7 age group, a competitor who has won an open championship must dance in the open grade in the calendar year in which the open championship was won. 11. Any dancer in the under 6 & under 7 age groups who have previously won a championship must dance open for the dances performed in the championship. They are eligible to dance the other dances in the appropriate grades. 12. Teams may contain up to 75% from a younger age group. A dancer may only compete in one team in the same age group, i.e. one 2 hand one 3 hand etc, the only exception to this would be where a dancer, dances a mixed and unmixed ceili 8 hand team in the same age group. 13. Competitors are required to be ready to dance 30 minutes before their competitions are scheduled on timetable. They may lose their right to compete if not side stage when required. 14. No block, en Pointe movements, stationary or moving, are allowed to be performed for all agesup to and including the under 12 age group. 15. Make-up (including false eyelashes and tanner on face) is not permitted for dancers in either solo or team competitions, up to and including the under 10 age group. 16. Dancers must be suitable dressed at all times. Changing facilities will be provided, therefore there should be no changing in public areas. 17. All Open, Preliminary & Local Championship awards are perpetual trophies and are required to be returned by the recipient in good time for the 2016 event. 18. The recipient / guardian is responsible for any loss or damage to trophies whilst in their possession. 19. Any objections to be made in writing and handed to feis secretary with a fee of 20.00. If the objection is sustained the fee will be returned. The objection must be lodged within one hour after completion of the competition. 20. No video, digital phone cameras or flash photography to be taken during competitions. All mobile phones and electronic games must be switched off in dancing areas. No hairsprays or aerosols to be used in dancing areas. 21. No smoking or consumption of Alcohol is allowed in the building. 22. Any competitor found to be using artificial/carriage aids and subsequently refuses to remove them will be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. Medical prescribed apparatus (proof of which may be required) will be exempt from this ruling. 23. The feis organisers will as far as reasonably practical provide suitable surfaces for dancing. However they cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained whilst dancing. The lodgement of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by a dancer. 24. Subject to the approval of the NERC the Feis Committee reserves the right to cancel or amend any competition. All teachers would be notified before the event of any changes. 25. North East teachers are required to forward copy entry to: NERC RECORDS CLERK: Louise Killen 10 Oprington Road, Cramlington. NE23 3YQ on or before Feis closing date. A 20 fine will be imposed by NERC for non receipt.
