Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has worked with fans to help children lead happier and healthier lives. At the heart of our efforts is our Foundation Chairperson, Betty Jane France, whose dedication to The NASCAR Foundation and our nonprofit partners is inspiring. As part of The NASCAR Foundation s new NASCAR Unites campaign, the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award has been established to pay tribute to Mrs. France s philanthropic efforts and to acknowledge fans who share Mrs. France s same spirit of generosity. AWARD OVERVIEW The NASCAR Foundation is excited to award one outstanding fan for his or her commitment to community with the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. The award will be presented during NASCAR Sprint Cup Champions week in Las Vegas in December 2011. The winner is selected from a pool of nominees, which is first narrowed to four (4) finalists. Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by a friend, family member or nonprofit organization. ELIGIBILITY The award is open to individuals aged 16 years or older who are legal residents of the United States. Applicants must demonstrate a distinct and unique passion for NASCAR and that they have made a significant impact on the lives of children through volunteerism or charitable work during the last five years. For this award, volunteerism is defined as voluntary action in service to others and the community. Individuals who receive compensation to perform charitable work volunteering, fundraising, etc. are ineligible for the award. NASCAR and NASCAR Foundation employees are ineligible for the award. THE PROCESS From April 30 July 18, 2011 individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by a friend, family member or nonprofit organization where the individual volunteers. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of four (4) finalists who will be announced in October 2011. From October November, the finalists will be featured in an online vote and text-to-vote campaign with NASCAR fans voting for the volunteer they would like to receive the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. 2
Nominees will be judged on: Involvement with a Children s Cause Nominee must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to a nonprofit organization, program or campaign that helps children lead happier, healthier lives. Community Impact Nominees efforts should have a direct and measurable impact on the nonprofit organization, program or campaign that he or she serves. Dedication Nominees must demonstrate a devotion and commitment to their cause, as well as their enthusiasm and passion for the sport of NASCAR Applications will be reviewed and ranked by an independent committee of business professionals and community leaders. The NASCAR Foundation board of directors, with the help of the independent committee and Corporate Community Outsourcing (CCO), will select the four finalists. Finalists will be notified of their selection in September 2011 and publicly announced in October 2011. Fans will vote through an online and text-to-vote campaign, resulting in a single awardwinner. Votes will be verified by CCO. The voting process will be overseen by the accounting firm of Ernst and Young LLP. The Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award winner will be announced during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Champions Week in Las Vegas in December 2011. THE AWARD From the pool of applicants, four (4) finalists will be selected. The text-to-vote and online vote campaign will narrow the pool to a single award-winner. Prizes are as follows: Three (3) Finalists will receive: A $25,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation to a children s charity of their choice (must be a registered, public, 501c3 tax-exempt organization in the United States). An all-expense-paid trip* to a NASCAR race weekend in October 2011 as part of the award recognition process and in recognition of the person as a finalist for the award. An all-expense-paid trip* to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Banquet in Las Vegas in December 2011 (finalists may each bring one guest), as well as a child (and child s parent/guardian) that benefit from the finalist s designated charity. One (1) Winner will receive: An all-expense-paid trip* to a NASCAR race weekend in October 2011 as part of the award recognition process and in recognition of the person as a finalist for the award. A $100,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation to a children s charity of their choice (must be a registered, public, 501c3 tax-exempt organization in the United States). A 2012 Ford Explorer which will be awarded and delivered to the Winner, provided that the Winner shall be responsible for all taxes, license, title fees, insurance and any other costs to own and operate such vehicle. An all-expense-paid trip* to the NASCAR Sprint Cup banquet in Las Vegas in December 2011 for the Winner and one guest to receive the reward, as well as a child (and child s 3 parent/guardian) that benefit from the Winner s designated charity. Winner and child from the designated charity will be presented a trophy and an acknowledgment of a $100,000 donation to be made to their designated charity.
