2012 2013 Important Information Program Objective The objective of the LCDS Swim Team is to provide a quality swim team program for swimmers participation as students of Loudoun Country Day School. The LCDS Swim Team is dedicated to providing the maximum opportunity for swimmers to achieve their personal goals in an encouraging environment. Swimmers will participate in several meets throughout the year. During the process of training and competing swimmers build selfesteem, confidence, physical endurance, and friendships with team members. Coaching Staff The coaching staff is comprised of coaches Chip Ross, Martha Swaggert, Mary Young, and Tony Calabrese. Communication Communication between coaches and parents is extremely important. We urge you to speak with your coaches if you have any questions or concerns about your child. All communication for the swim team will be done via e mail. If you do not receive an e mail within the first two weeks of practice, please e mail Coach Ross at chip.ross@lcds.org to get on the distribution list. At any time, if your e mail address changes, please communicate that to Coach Ross. If you are not on our distribution list, you may be missing important information! Practices Practices are a vital part of participating on a swim team. When you choose to join the LCDS team, our coaches expect you to make a commitment to attend both practices and meets. Practice times will be as follows: 2:00 2:45pm.4 th & 5 th grades 2:45 3:30pm.K 3 rd and 6 th 8 th grades Transportation Bus transportation to and from Ida Lee practices is provided for grades 2 nd 8 th. Parents of Kindergarten and 1 st grade swimmers must provide transportation and locker room supervision during practices. Transportation to swim meets is the parent s responsibility, unless otherwise noted. Equipment Team suit order forms will be given out the first week of practice. Girls will be given a team cap (boys may request them, if they wish to wear one). It is suggested that you wear a practice suit for workouts and save your team suit for meets. All swimmers are responsible for having caps, goggles, and fins. All bags and clothing must be kept in the lockers during practice. Ida Lee is not responsible for items left in the locker rooms. Team shirt order forms will be available by the end of September (these are optional). Swim Meets All swimmers will have the opportunity to compete in the swim meets, however, some meets may not include all ages. Team members are encouraged to swim all of the strokes in order to have more opportunities for improvement and experience. Entries: Coaches will make all entries for swim meets. Please communicate to Coach Ross ASAP if your swimmer will not be attending a meet. He is responsible for entries, so PLEASE respond to him emails in a timely manner. This is a very time consuming task and having to track down swimmers/parents regarding their decisions to attend meets makes additional work for the coaches.
Warm ups: It is extremely important for everyone to participate in warm ups. This gives the swimmers not only the opportunity to stretch and warm up their muscles, but also to familiarize them with the pool. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to warm up time in order for the swimmers to be ready with caps, goggles, and suits on. During meets: Although swimming is an individual sport, you are also a part of the LCDS team. That means all swimmers are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner, stay within the designated team area, encourage their teammates, and participate fully for the duration of the meet. Bring to meets: Oftentimes pool facilities can become quite chilly. We recommend an extra LCDS t shirt and towel to stay warm. Healthy snacks and water or sport drinks are also a good idea since meets can last for several hours.
