Carbohydrate-rich foods like pasta, breads and cereal are easily digested and absorbed. Rule of thumb: 0.5-2.0 grams of carbohydrate per pound of body weight one to four hours prior to exercise. Keep a fluid bottle by the side of the pool when working out and drink between repeats and sets. Choose sports drinks like Gatorade that taste good, stimulate fluid absorption in the body, maintain proper fluid balance in the body, and provide energy to working muscles. Cramps can be kept to a minimum by giving your swimmer fresh fruit (especially bananas), water and reducing salt intake. COMMUNICATION Remind Free and Safe Text & e-mail Message Alerts 1. Coaches make the final decisions on all events and relays that the children swim. Relays will be selected based upon times. If you have an issue during the week, please wait until after practice to discuss it with the coaches. During practice we need to focus on the swimmers and their safety in the water. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. We want to make this season enjoyable for both parents and athletes. Let s stay positive, stay focused, continue the Lexington swimming tradition, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!! NON-INTERSCHOLASTIC PARTICIPTATION OHSAA RULE 9.1) A member of an interscholastic swimming and diving squad (any student who has pared by the Board of Education shall not participate in a non-interscholastic contest as an individual or a member of a team in the sport of swimming and diving during the school s season (Sports Regulation 7.2.2). ILLNESS/ CAN NOT ATTEND A MEET If your child cannot attend a meet, please advise the coach AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Last minute lineup changes may result in the need to scratch a relay and disappoint three other swimmers. If illness or an emergency occurs, please call a coach the night before the meet (if at all possible) or as early as possible on the day of the meet. If your swimmer is starting to get sick and may be questionable for the meet, let a coach know in advance and he/she can schedule accordingly.
TRANSPORTATION The student-athletes will have transportation provided by the school to the Friendly House for all practices and weekday home meets. It is the responsibility of the parents to pick their children up after practice. We encourage car pooling to save on gas and cut down on trips to the Friendly House. Once all information has been compiled, we will hand out a roster with addresses and phone numbers to make car pooling easier. All student-athletes MUST travel to away meets on school transportation. If you do not ride the bus, you will not be allowed to compete. Extreme exceptions may possibly be made, but it is the responsibility of each studentathlete and a parent to contact one of the coaches at least 24 hours prior to the meet. At the conclusion of each away meet, athletes will be permitted to ride home with their parents, but only after a parent has signed the coach s form after the meet has ended. Student-athletes must remember that they must abide by all state regulations while riding on the bus. They will not be permitted to eat or drink anything while on the bus. We will more than likely stop and eat lunch on the way home from our away meet at Kenton. More information on that will come out as the time approaches. Coach Heimann will follow the bus to the Friendly House. Any type of misbehaving will result in the bus being pulled over and the coach dealing with it directly. Please be courteous and respectful of the bus and driver just as you would if you were riding to or from school. POT LUCK TEAM DINNER On Friday, Dec. 11th we will have a team dinner to celebrate our season and to prepare for the championships the next day. This will be held at the Junior High School cafeteria. Please sign up for what you will be bringing before you leave the parent orientation. Swim suite fittings are on Fri., Oct. 16th at 2:20 p.m. Parents/Guardians are encourage to be there but if not available provide swimmer with a blank check. HOME MEETS Athletes should arrive at the Friendly House 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the start of each home meet. This will allow them to change, stretch, put in lane ropes, and warm up. Everyone on the team will participate in each meet unless they are injured or miss due to disciplinary reasons. All athletes are required to stay until the conclusion of the meet. Team members should remain to cheer on and support their fellow teammates. After each home meet, the swimmers will warm-down, take out lane ropes, and help clean up the team area and locker rooms. **We need the help of all parents at home meets to help set-up, time, and score the meet. Please help us out! We will need all the help that we can get so that the coaches can spend as much time as possible coaching your children. If we do not get enough volunteers at each home meet, we will be forced to forfeit the meet.**
