January, 2017 Precision Rifleman 5 Larry Costa Wins 2016 Phoenix Group Nationals The Arizona Bench Rest Shooters were proud to host the 2016 NBRSA Group Nationals on October 10th through October 15th, 2016. A big thanks goes out to all of the shooters that came out here to Ben Avery Shooting Facility to join us for this match. Ben Avery s Bench Rest Range is known for having tricky wind, and while there was enough wind to keep shooters on their toes this week, we also had some great conditions. During practice, the wind kicked up quite a bit, and even prevented us from practicing on some days. Luckily, when it came to the match, we did not encounter any weather that slowed us down. The week started off with Unlimited 100-yard 10 shot, where Larry Boers set the pace for the rest of the match with a 0.2024 8 match agg and the small group of the yardage with a 0.092 group in match 5. This 0.092 10 shot agg was submitted as a possible world record! In the agg, he was closely followed by Dave Coots with a 0.2185 and Rodney Brown with a 0.2535. On Tuesday morning the wind calmed down significantly and we saw some amazing shooting. Larry Costa took a commanding lead in the Sporter 100-yard category with a possible world record agg of 0.1476! He was followed by Gary Bristow s 0.1794 and Bob Scarbrough Jr s 0.1876. The wind kicked back up a little bit in the afternoon and groups opened back up. Lester Bruno finished on top of the Light Varmint 100-yard classification with a 0.2044 agg, followed by Bud Mundy s 0.2170 and Mark Buettgen s 0.2172. Wednesday morning s shooting conditions were amazing. In Match 1 of the Heavy Varmint 100-yard competition, we had 44 shooters that had teen groups! That s right; a 0.198 group would have scored you in 45th place! Shelby Snow took a big lead in the first 3 matches, but the wind began to kick up a bit in the 4th match and in the end Bob Scarbrough took the top position with a 0.1770 agg, followed by Gene Bukys 0.1804 and Bud Mundy s 0.1844. After shooting was done for the day, we headed over to our 100 yard awards ceremony, where we had a raffle table with thousands of dollars worth of prizes; including scopes, barrels, and plenty of Berger Bullets. In fact, we had enough prizes that everyone was able to take something home! Thursday was the start of our 200 yard matches beginning with the Unlimited class. The wind kicked up a bit more this day and groups widened up a bit, but there were still some very good aggs in the end. Dave Coots took the lead with a 0.241 agg, followed by Larry Costa s 0.2511 and Wayne Campbell s 0.2574. When combining with Monday s aggs, this put Dave Coots in 1st for the Unlimited 10 Shot Grand Agg with a 0.2298, followed by Larry Boers 0.2308 and Larry Costa s 0.2607. By Friday temperatures began to come up a bit and there was a significant breeze. This didn t stop Larry Costa from shooting yet another great sporter agg though. His 200 yard agg was another good lead at 0.1560, followed by Wayne Campbell s 0.1745 and Hugh Williamson s 0.1777. When you combine these with the 100 yard aggs, Larry Costa comes out on top again with another possible world record! Larry s Grand Agg for Sporter was 0.1518! Great shooting Larry! He was followed by Gary Bristow with a 0.1992 and Wayne Cambell with a 0.2081. We finished up the match on a good note on Saturday. We had a mild hiccup with a motor malfunction on our moving backers, but Matt Schwartzkopf, our range master, caught it almost immediately. The target crew had the motor

6 Precision Rifleman replaced in just a few minutes and everything was back on track with no other issues. Wind was a little bit tricky, but we still saw quite a few good looking groups. Larry Costa took first with a 0.2018 agg, followed by Gene Buckys 0.2061 and Rex Reneau s 0.2072. When you combine these with the 100 yard results, Gene Buky s took the lead with a 0.1933 Grand Agg, followed closely by Larry Costa s 0.1939 and Rex Reneau s 0.2046. For the team Heavy Varmint Grand Agg, BYOG took the top place with a 0.2230 Grand Agg. This team consisted of Mike Conry, Bob Scarbrough Jr, Charles Huckeba, and Gene Bukys. In 2nd place was the Honey Badgers with a 0.2251 Grand Agg. This team consisted of Tony Alexander, Larry Costa, Wayne Campbell, and Billy Stevens. In 3rd, we had Nader Schmidts with a 0.2505 Grand Agg. Bob Hamister, Joel Nader, Jackie Schmidt, and Andy Laidlaw formed this team. Saturday afternoon we had our final awards ceremony and lunch. We had plenty more prizes to give away as shooters joined us, and some great food as well. In the end, the 2-Gun went to Larry Costa with a 0.1949 Grand Agg, followed by Gary Bristow s 0.2318 and Wayne Campbell s 0.2382. Larry Costa also took home the 3-Gun Trophy with a 0.1946 Grand Agg, followed by Wayne Campbell s 0.2367 and Gene Buky s 0.2384. In the end, the 2016 NBRSA Group Nationals 4-Gun winner was Larry Costa, with a convincing lead. Larry ended with a 0.2111 Grand Agg, followed by Wayne Campbell s 0.2443 and Dave Coots 0.2471. On behalf of the Arizona Bench Rest Shooters, I would like to thank you again for joining us. It was a great honor to host these matches this past week and we sincerely hope to see you at more of our matches over the next few months. The Cactus Classic will be on March 11-12, 2017. 10 Precision Rifleman Desert Sportsman Club Score Match September 24, 2016 Saturday started out great with little wind and no mirage. I don't get to say that every often. We had three new shooters from Utah and one from California. Hope they bring their friends to come up here to shoot with us. Next month is VFS & Hunter SW Regional Championship Matches. VFS will be shot on Saturday and Hunter will be Sunday. We were waiting for the signal that the line was hot. We were quietly studying the wind. That is the hard part at the Three Points 1,000 yard range thirty miles west of Tucson, Arizona. There are no wind flags for the first five hundred yards due to a ravine that drops off about eighty yards ahead of the elevated shooting benches. If we are lucky there may be a single small wind flag placed out at about seventy five yards by one of the more dedicated shooters, but other than the wind on your face, in your face, or the back of your head, it can be pretty hard to determine what it is up to. The real range flags, out past five hundred, look so small that without a telescope it can be hard to see just what they are doing. It all adds up to a lot of guess work and sometimes just Hail Mary s when it comes time to pull triggers. Of course Three Points is not the only range like this. Wide flat real estate for 1,000 yard ranges is hard to come by in the U.S. but we make do and always have a good time shooting with each other every month. Being as it is September, it is still a little hot by late morning, but at 75 at 8:00 A.M. and about 96 by noon, it is not bad at all. Wish I could say the same for the wind. Light gun in relay one started out well, there were no less than fifteen sub-moa groups and the first five aggregates were sub-moa as well. Wayne McDonald s 6BR was working well for him, he shot the smallest group of 3.25 and had all sub-moa groups, he ended up with a nice 6.20 aggregate. Billotte Gang boss Jeff Billotte and his 6.5/57 (a 7X57 case necked down to 6.5) shot a 4.00 group, then an 8.25 and then somehow, while fighting the wind in relay three had four shots off target. Don t you hate it when that happens! All totaled, in light gun, there was one three, two fours and four five inch groups. That is seven groups that were one half Minute Of Angle or less at 1,000 yards. This bunch really knows how to shoot! Especially perennial winner Ross Herrick, with his.30 (Lazzaroni 7.82) Patriot, who s light gun groups were 5.81, 5.25 and 4.31 for an Agg of 5.12 to take first place for Group Aggregate. Wow, nice going Ross. It was the same in score, Steve Everson s 6.5/284 shot the highest single target score with a 49-3X and had a total of 136-5X, but even with that, he was fourth, it was Ross that prevailed for first place with a 143-2X. In heavy gun we had eight sub-moa groups which is pretty good for ten shot groups, the smallest one being Mike Billotte s 6.50 from his 7saum, but there was only one sub- MOA group aggregate, and that belonged to Dale Arenson with a 9.25 Even though Pat Billotte using his 6.5/284, shot the highest single target score of 97-2X, once again it was Ross, still using his.30 Patriot, who charged across the finish line with a high total score of 277-2X to win first in score As usual, a good time was had by all, even with the frustration of dealing with the conditions and perhaps loads, or guns that are not performing up to par. These matches are run with great efficiency by Karl Hunstiger and for that we are grateful, but they are still a group effort, setting up in the morning and tearing down in the afternoon. I think that sense of involvement

is part of the fun, being part of the match, not just showing up to shoot. By noon we had everything put away and were off to have lunch at Cindy Lou s so we could still hangout together and quiz the winners on what they are doing right. There is always room for more shooters if you would like to come and join us on the second Saturday of every month. The morning started out at about 70 degrees and even by noon, when we were all finished, it was still only about 88 degrees. But hey, it s a dry heat! Welcome to Arizona. It is one of the reasons why we live here. Another good reason of course, is that Arizona is still a state that respects the Sec- January, 2017 Precision Rifleman 11 ond Amendment. We had a better than usual turnout, with some of our veteran long range shooters, plus Steve Brown, who has been with us for a few months and new comers Jason DelaFont and Madelyn Brown were welcomed as well. Madelyn is only seventeen and she is out here trying her hand at 1,000 yard benchrest. Way to go young lady! Not only do we like to see new folks come out and join us, but it is really special to see young people interested in our sport. We hope to see more of you and your Dad. Most of us can t wait to get down here on the second Saturday of every month, to shoot with our friends and see how well we were able to load our rounds, or how the gun is doing. Either our favorite gun, or maybe one we are trying out for the first time, or the second or third time and we may still be trying to get it dialed in. And then there are those pesky conditions we are always trying to deal with... Light gun got off to a good start with eleven sub MOA individual groups and four sub MOA aggregates. Ross Herrick shot the smallest group at 5.625 and Wayne Mc- Donald shot really well as usual, he was the only one with all sub-moa Sahuaro 1,000-yd Benchrest Equipment List for September 10, 2016 Name Caliber Action Barrel Gunsmith Stock Scope Case Powder Bullet/Wt Ross Herrick 30Patriot Nesika Krieger Wells Tracker Nightforce Lazz H4831 JLK/210 Mike Billotte (LG) 7saum BAT Krieger Carey Wood/Lam Nightforce Remington H4831 Berger/180 Mike Billotte (H/25) 7saum BAT Krieger Brackney Wood/Lam Nightforce Norma H4831 Berger/180 Steve Everson (LG) 6.5/284 Panda Krieger Brackney Everson Leupold Lapua VVN160 Sierra/142 Steve Everson (H/22) 7/284 Nesika Krieger Brackney McMillan Leupold Lapua IMR4831 Sierra/183 Wayne McDonald (LG) 6BR Remington Broughton Bryant Shehane Nightforce Lapua Varget Berger/105 Pat Billotte 6.5/284 BAT Krieger Carey McMillan Nightforce Lapua RL22 Sierra/142 Dale Arenson (LG) 6.5/284 Nesika Hart Ocock McMillan Nightforce Norma RL22 Sierra/142 Dale Arenson (H/23) 30Patriot BAT Krieger Bruno McMillan Nightforce Lazz H4831 Berger/210 Lon Persun (LG) 300wsm McMillan Classic Wells McMillan Nightforce Norma H4831 Berger/210 Steve Brown 6BR Borden Krieger Brown Shehane Leupold Lapua VVN140 Sierra/107 Jeff Billotte 6.5/57Lazz McMillan PacNor Lazzarino McMillan Nightforce Norma H1000 Berger/140

12 Precision Rifleman groups. and finished with a 7.77 agg, but in the end, Dale Arenson shot two five inch groups and a ten, and just barely ended up winning for light gun group aggregate with a 7.47 The Billotte Gang member, Pat Billotte walked away with light gun score with a 137 while Ross was right on his heels with a 136-1X. The top five scores were pretty close and once again, it was Ross who shot the highest single target score of 49-1X. As the conditions worsened already in relay two, for the ten shot groups in heavy, there were only four sub MOA groups. Pat Billotte let the way with a 7.5 and won for smallest group, but there were no sub-moa aggregates. Dale Arenson won again for heavy gun group aggregate with an 11.02, with Ross right behind him with a 12.7 However, Ross prevailed in score with a 255-1X and Pat Billotte was right on his heels with a 254-1X. Dale straggled in at third with a 251-2X, but won the single high target score of 95-2X. And that wrapped it up for another month. It looks like it is back to the drawing board for some of us. How do we get these loads tweaked to make them better next month. It seems to be a never ending process, but then, I guess that is part of the fun and the attraction. The art and science of long range shooting. Of course, winning only is part of the fun. What is even better is getting to hang out with our friends, send bullets way, way downrange and always trying to improve. 14 Precision Rifleman Mark Walker Wins the Ed Frombach Memorial & Ties for 2016 Shooter of the Year by Dan Kjelland Once again the Ed Frombach Memorial/Washington State 3 Gun Championship was contested at the Tacoma Rifle and revolver Club. Held on September 3 thru 5, nineteen shooters initially entered the contest travelling from Canada, New Year New Rules New Bags Call: 505 888-2866 sales@edgebag.com www.edgebag.com Idaho and all over Washington and Oregon. It was a pleasure to meet shooters Eldon Yarbrough and Jim Stipe who drove up from the Bend, OR area. There was a delicious potluck dinner on Saturday night. A big thanks to everyone who contributed, especially Theresa Boers who prepared beef brisket and pulled pork with all the trimmings. Saturday started out mostly cloudy at 58 degrees with a light breeze. Duane Hatch shot the smallest group of the morning at.104 and he also won the SP100 with a.2056 agg. Larry Boers took second with a.2218. By afternoon it had warmed up to 70 degrees with enough sun to add mirage to the sight picture. Dan Kjelland s.284 was the smallest group of the afternoon, and his efforts won him the SP200 with a.2171 agg. Rob Seeman s.2704 agg took second place. Combined with his 7th place finish in the SP100, Dan went on to win the SP Grand Agg with a.2385. Rob s.2508 earned second. Sunday morning began with 50 degrees and a light fog, which soon lifted. Mike Zdiler shot the smallest LV200 group at.261 but it was Mark Walker who won the aggregate with a.2172. Steve Kostanich was close behind, taking second with his.2182. By afternoon we had 68 degrees with sunshine, a light breeze, and a bit of mirage. Jeff Lewis shot the afternoon s smallest group at.170 and he won the LV100 with a.2130 agg. Last month s winner Bruce Andrews shot second with his.2184 agg. Mark placed third and along with his earlier win in the LV200 he went on to win the LV Grand Agg with a.2209. Bruce s efforts put him in second with his.2256. Monday s conditions were the best of the weekend, and the scores reflected it. With very little wind, 52 degrees, and overcast skies, Allen Condiff shot the smallest HV100 group with a screamer.084. Rob Seeman posted the first teen agg of the weekend and won the HV100 with his.1906. Jeff took second with a.2074. By afternoon we saw some sun breaks and a light, steady breeze developed. Mark shot a.192 for the small group and Steve won the HV200 with a.1902 agg, barely edging Jeff s.1903. Combining his second place finishes at both yardages, Jeff was they only shooter to score a grand agg in the teens, winning the HV Grand Agg with a.1988. Rob settled for second with a.2131.

With all 30 groups in the books everyone extended their congratulations to Mark Walker, whose practice and patience won the Washington State: Ed Frombach Memorial with a.2403 grand agg. Jeff s performance took second with a.2500, and Rob earned a third place finish with his.2520. This was the last match of the season and with all of the year s 100 and 200 yard aggregates tallied up, we found that we had a tie for the 2016 Shooter of the Year. This year Jeff Lewis and Mark Walker share the honor along with the esteemed congratulations of their fellow competitors. Special thanks go to Range Officer Karen Lynn, Match Director Jim Lynn, Target Handler Henry Hanson, and Official Scorer & Statistician Craig Kensler. Finally, we d like to thank the following sponsors for the many prizes which were awarded to the shooters in a random drawing: Berger Bullets, Krieger Barrels, Brux Barrels, Victory Graphics, Steve Kostanich, L.E. Wilson, Edgewood Bags, Criterion Barrels, Pacific Tool & Gauge, Bullet Central, Rehv Arms, Graham Wind Flags, BAT Machine, and PMA Tool. 18 Precision Rifleman Sloughhouse 1,000-Yd Benchrest October 23, 2016 Here are the match results for Sunday, October 23. The weather was fairly calm for this neck of the woods. We had some new shooters; one who is shooting very well and getting people s attention. Mike Scadden (it's in the water) and Bob Landis, both of who shot savages with a twist. These two guys are very humble. I would like to thank Gary Childs and Mike Noumov for their help with this match. Without them it wouldn t be possible. Also thanks to the shooters for their help on the line running things. I'm very grateful. Craig St Claire, LR Match Director In the photo page 19: Ken Schroeder at the Sloughhouse 600-yd line. January, 2017 Precision Rifleman 23 Fall Finale Shelby County Deer Hunters Assn November 22-23, 2016 Twenty seven shooters arrived for the Fall Finale near Sidney Ohio, ending the Eastern Region s shooting year. The range was in excellent shape and a challenge for the competitors. Registration started on Friday. The shooters were greeted with rain and cool, damp conditions. Campers turned on their heaters and hunkered down for what might be a less than desirable weekend from the weatherman. However, it did not turn out that way. Saturday was bright and sunny with winds coming from the Northwest at 10 to 15 mph. The temperature in the morning was a crisp, cold, 39 degrees. By the end of the day however it rose to a balmy 54 degrees. Yes, everyone complained about the cold. Yes, everyone complained about the wind. Both of these factors did not stop several shooters from firing some very impressive scores. The 100 Light Varmint ended with Ted Heindselman finishing with an impressive.1944 agg followed by Mel Newransky at.2352 and Dale Dillingham at.2510. Small group went to Ted Heindselman with a blistering.084. Great shooting Ted! After a great lunch provided by Jerry Seitz s kitchen crew, shooting started again with the 100 Heavy Varmint. Ted Heindselmen again bested the competition with a.2464 agg. Roger Avery, who came all the way from Georgia, finished 2nd with at.2486 and Tim Humphreys rounded out the winners with a.2646. Bragging rights for small group went to Carl Thompson who fired another screamer at.092. Sunday broke, once again, bright and sunny with warmer temperatures. No one was shivering with cold as the temperature rose though out the day to a very pleasant 70 degrees or so. The wind was being (as Tony Boyer is quoted as saying) our friend, coming out of the Southwest at 15 to 20 mph. The stage was set for an interesting time at 200 yards. Tim Humphreys showed how to shoot by winning the 200 Heavy Varmint with a.2322 agg followed by Mel Newransky with.2732 and Paul Whitt at.2815. Small group honors went to Mel Newransky who fired an incredible.148. Wow! Accugauge Quick case sizing measurement to 0.0001 Readjust sizing die w/o using bolt feel Observe case ageing as you load After lunch, firing resumed with the 200 Light Varmint. Bryan Lemley showed everyone how to do it by firing a.2566 agg followed by Ted Heinselman at.2165 and Stan Buchtel at.2849. DeWayne Wood fired the small group of.258. Great shooting! The Light Varmint Aggregate went as follows: Ted Heindselman at.2165, Bryan Lemley at.2566 and Mel Newransky at.2849. The Heavy Varmint Aggregate ended with Tim Humphreys at.2322, Ted Heinselman at.2358 and Pat Metcalf at.2655. When it was all said and done the Two Gun honors went to Ted Heinselman who fired a.2261 followed by Mel Newransky at.2731 and Tim Humphreys at.2789. Congratulations Ted and a job well done. It seemed that everyone had a great time. Those who camped at the range gathered Friday and Saturday nights for a chip-in-whatyou-can dinner. Nothing like food 6mmPPC Can be used for other calibers using your 7/8 seating dies by means of an optional $5 bushing www.6mmppc.com $90 shipped U.S.

24 Precision Rifleman and friendship to bring people together. Thanks again to all those who made this shoot possible. From the backroom people to those running the range, changing targets, and cooking breakfast and lunch, everything was done with a smile and a can do attitude. The shooters made many great comments of how friendly everyone was. That s Shelby County in a nut shell. See you in the spring. Have a great and safe winter. 26 Precision Rifleman we all should have all had more X s. In the VFS class at 100 yards the top 13 shooters shot 250 s with Ron Hoehn winning with a 250-21X, second was Jeremy Mataya with 250-20X, third Jeff Conover 250-20X, fourth Bill Haynes with 250-19X and fifth was Stanley Clark with 250-18X. At 200 yards we had 3 shooters with 250 s and St Louis Benchrest Rifle Club Score Match Dennis Boyet wins VFS Match Mike Schneidman wins Hunter October 2, 2016 by Wayne Corley Our score shooting season has come to an end. We had a total of 25 competitors. We really do appreciate those that were present, especially members who traveled a few hours to get here. We had 3 new score competitors at our range. One of them was Robert Hawkins who also competes in our group matches. Robert had Larry Smart build him a Hunter rifle about 10 years ago and he had never shot it until this match. Robert told me he likes score shooting and will be back. The weather was very nice for an October day with the temperatures hovering in the 60 s. As far as wind goes it was pretty much a dream come true and most felt

the winner was Dennis Boyet with a 250-14X, second Jerry Kloeppel with 250-7X and third Bill Haynes with 250-1X. In the Grand, Dennis Boyet was the winner with 500-32X, second Jerry Kloeppel with 500-21X, third Bill Haynes with 500-20X. In the Hunter class the big winner was Mike Schneidman, Mike won the 100, 200 and the Grand. At 100 Mike won with 250-17X, second was Clark Greene with 248-13X and third was Leon Domijan with 248-8X. At 200 yards Mike won with 245-4X, second was Clark Greene with 244-3X and third was Joe Hemkens with 243-5X. The Grand agg winner was clearly Mike Schneidman with 495-21X, second was Clark Greene with 492-16X and third was Joe Hemkens with 489-16X. At the end of the season a special thanks always goes to our match workers. Without them there would be no matches. We hope to see you all next spring for our first score match which is generally mid March. I will send a new match schedule when it is finalized around the end of December. Chris Sheehan won the LG Score and Canada Cummins the LG Group, but all the rest was owned by Bill Johnston as well as the tile of 600-Yard Champion. Moving on to the 1,000-yard competition, history repeated itself. Chris Sheehan once again won the LG Score. Bruce Bangeman won the LG Group and Robert Hoppe came and won the HG Group. All other wins were...you guessed it! Bill Johnston s, making him the 1,000-Yard Champion and thereby securing his latest title of Northwest Region Champion. Congratulations Bill on another great win and thank you to all the competitors for sharing the long range shooting fun. It actually turned out to be a very nice, but cool day. Eleven shooters made it up from the flatlands, where it was raining, to shoot. Barry Moss edged out Wayne Schick to be the match winner. Both shot well and Barry shot a 50 in Light Gun Score. Wayne shot the small group of the day with 1.372. Jim Nicolas gave us a Rail Gun lesson with a 2-day aggregate of 0.164! Twenty shooters came out to test their guns. Saturday all the 100-yard events were contended. It began with a cool morning breeze after a couple of days of great rain that we desperately need in California. The sun came out but the winds were light. It was a little foggy first thing in the morning January, 2017 Precision Rifleman 31 with 100 percent humidity and 60 degrees. Sunday all 200-yards were shot with 15 minutes of moderate rain coming straight down and not much wind. It turned into a perfect day for shooting; cool, overcast and little to no wind. Saturday morning, the first eleven shooters were in the teens! Yep, that s over half the shooters. Most of them were welltuned Visalia regulars. Keith Cottrell shot a fine.190 aggregate, which was good for 11th place. Joe Stanovich was presented with a special gift for enforcing all of the NBRSA rules for the season and as acting Ranger (Head Referee) at the Dale Whip Shooting Range in Visalia, CA. The wind was a huge factor when firing. The rain storm arrived one hour after we finished on Sunday. Every competitor had at least one, one-inch group. It was windy and very twitchy. Only the November match is left for determining the Shooter of the Year. The race is very close; only one point separates the top two shooters. Faithfully, at 10am, we would stop to listen to Paul Harvey s The Rest of the Story. As I get slightly older, it is amazing how many rest of the stories a person comes across. With the gaining popularity of the Hunter/VFS Two Gun, a few shooters have asked where and how did the Two Gun start. In the mid 90 s Ronnie Berg, Mike Bigelow, Randy Robinett and the crew at Mason City, Iowa s IBS sanctioned, River City Rifle and Pistol Club were having their version of the Two Gun. It was a group shoot on Saturday and a score shoot on Sunday. The Two-Gun winner was the shooter with the lowest combined place finishes for both days. In 1997 Randy Robinett came up with the idea of combining Hunter matches on Saturday and VFS matches on Sunday. The winner would be the highest combined score of both days Grand Aggregates and would be awarded the Two Gun Score trophy. Both the Hunter and VFS matches were IBS registered but the Two Gun was a January, 2017 Precision Rifleman 35 club award. The reason behind the start of the Two Gun was to entice the large number of VFS shooters to build and shoot six power guns which would raise the relatively low number of Hunter Class shooters. In 1998, the late, Dan Hackett petitioned the IBS board to officially recognize the Hunter and VFS Two Gun and make it a registered event. In 1999 the IBS would recognize the Two Gun and world records but would hold off on National Championships until 2012. Roy Oines held the first Two Gun world record with a score of 996. The X count seems to be lost in history. In 2012 NBRSA adopted VFS. With this adoption, world records could now be set for the Hunter and VFS Two Gun in the NBRSA. In May of 2012, Tom Peyton set the current 100 & 200 world record of 999-47X. In 2013, Tim Naugle set the 200 & 300 yard record at the Hunter Nationals and Mid Continent VFS Regionals held at Mill Creek in Desoto, KS with a score of 993-21X. At the same tournament, Greg Swezey set the 100, 200 & 300 Two Gun world record with a score of 1494-61X. In 2014, the Score National Cham- continued on page 38...
