Dear Instructors, Parents and Competitors: Join Us In Friendly Competition! Jay Haynes and the Family Karate Center are proud to invite you and your students to participate in the Terry L. Bryan Memorial Karate Tournament to be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018. We will be using modified WKF (Olympic Style) Rules with only light touching of the head with either hand or foot techniques in the adult divisions and no contact to the head in the children's divisions. The fee to compete is only $50, and all spectaors are FREE! Because this competition is by invitation-only to reputable, traditional karate schools, both judges and participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting karate-do. As always, your help will ensure that the tournament begins on time and runs smoothly and continuously in an efficient and orderly manner. Please feel free to call for additional information. The he Terry L. Bryan an Memorial Karate ate Tourn ournament Olympic Rules in Effect General: 1. Competitors must wear a clean, white, traditional karate gi. 2. Coaches must wear a track suit. 3. Officials will wear grey slacks, a blue blazer, a white shirt, and a blue tie. Kata and Kobudo: 1. Competitors must perform a traditional Okinawan or Japanese kata. 2. A point system of judging will determine the winners. 3. In the event of a tie, beginners may perform the same kata again, but intermediate and advanced competitors must perform a different kata. All kobudo competitors may perform the same kata again. Kumite: 1. All matches except division S22 (18-34 Male Advanced) are 2 minutes stopping time. Division S22 is 3 minutes stopping time. 2. All children's divisions will have NO CONTACT (NO TOUCH) to the head, and LIGHT CONTACT (TOUCH) to the body. 3. All adult divisions except division S22 (18-34 Male Advanced) will allow only LIGHT CONTACT (TOUCH) to the head and LIGHT CONTACT (TOUCH) to the body. 4. Division S22 (18-34 Male Advanced) will allow only LIGHT CONTACT (TOUCH) to the head and MODERATE CONTACT (NOT HEAVY CONTACT) to the body. 5. Yuko, Waza Ari, and Ippon terminology will be used. FIRST COMPETITOR TO 6 POINTS WINS. 6. Penalties will be divided into Category 1 and Category 2 Fouls as per the Olympic Rules. 7. The first cometitor to score unopposed will be awarded "SENSHU." In the event of a tie at the end of the match, the competitor holding SENSHU wins. There is NO ENCHOSEN or SAI SHIAI. 8. There is no ten second rule in play. 9. Contestants MUST wear standard Olympic Style gear including Blue/Red/White Karate Mitts, Mouthpiece, and Groin Protection for males. Optional equipment includes Olympic Style Shin/Instep Gear, White Headgear for children's divisions, and Chest Protectors for females. 10. Point awards will be as follows: Yuko will be awarded for Uchi or Tsuki. Waza Ari will be awarded for chudan geri. Ippon will be awarded for jodan geri or scoring on a completely grounded opponent. 11. ATOSHI BARAKU occurs at 15 seconds remaining. Warning and penalties during ATOSHI BARAKU remain unchanged from previous rules. 11. Penalties will be assessed on the standard scale for WKF Category 1 and Category 2 fouls, WITHOUT penalty points being awarded.

Bryan Memorial Karate Tournament, related events and activities, the undersigned: 1. Agrees, that prior to participating, the participant and/or parent or guardian (if under 18) will inspect the facilities and equipment to be used, and if the participant and/or parent or guardian believes anything is unsafe, they will immediately advise the supervisor of tournament officials of each condition(s) and refuse to participate. 2. Acknowledges and fully understands that each participant will be engaging in activities that involve risk of serious injury, including permanent disability and death, and severe social and economic losses which might result not only from his/her action, inaction, or negligence, but the action, inaction, or negligence of others, the rules of play, or the condition of the premises or of any equipment used. Further, the participant and/or guardian, acknowledge that there may be other risks not known or not responsibly foreseeable at this time. The participant and/or parent or guardian assumes all the forgoing risks and accepts personal responsibility for damages such injury, permanent disability, or death. 3. Releases and waives all rights and claims for any injuries, loss of or damage to personal property that may be sustained or incurred while attending and/or participating in the aforementioned tournament. Waives all rights to sue or hold responsible the Haynes Karate Corp., the Hotel Elegante, or any officials, agents, representatives, successors or assignees of those individuals, or organizations arranging or conducting said tournament. 4. States that participant is in good health and physical condition, and can therefore participate in said tournament. 5. Understands that all entries are final, and no refunds will be given. Fully understands that any medical treatment given will be of a first aid treatment type only. Consents that any pictures or video furnished or taken of the participant in connection with the tournament can be used for publicity, promotion, or television showing, now or in the future; and waives compensation in regard thereto. 6. Understands that participation in any event in or connected to this tournament is by permission only. The Director or his authorized agents(s) reserve the right to refuse entry to any person, school, team, or club. The undersigned has read the above waiver and release, understands that he/she has given up substantial rights by signing it, and signs voluntarily.
