From the Principal HUSKY HEADLINES April 12, 2018 Hello Parents, We are on day three of 6 th and 8 th grade EOGs at this point. Seventh grade will be online next week. The state has reconfigured how CCRPI scores will be determined and so, again, this year s scores will be another baseline year. Attendance Well, we had a big dip after eclipse day and then came back in our daily attendance rate. Then the flu hit and we had another big drop in daily attendance rate. Even though we cannot control these happenings, attendance is counted in our CCRPI score. Please remember that 12:45 is the magic time. I still have conversations with parents who believe that noon is the time. If you have to check your child out of school, if you can wait until 12:45, then the state counts your child present for the day! This is Hightower Trail s 25 th Anniversary. Paired with the PTSA, we are going to have a fun day on April 25 th for the kids in celebration of the 25 th Anniversary. The day starts with Quarters for a Cause and that collection will be donated to the fire station that supports HTMS. Teachers will be working with the 25 concept during class time. Students will be eating lunch on the lanes, listening to music, and dancing during an extended lunch time. Students will be entering a hat design contest, if they wish, with the theme of 25 th Anniversary. Each homeroom will select their winner, then we will select a grade level winner, and then lastly an overall school winner. Don t forget to check out the class offerings for our HTMS Summer Camp! There is a link below that will take you directly to the registration form and a description of the classes. I am grateful to serve HTMS. The PTSA, School Council, and Foundation support is amazing and allows us to move forward in a productive way. Thank you all to the newly recruited and to those who have agreed to continue to serve. Laura Montgomery School News Please consider the Milestones testing schedule below when making appointments for your student.

NIGHT OF THE ARTS It is my privilege to welcome you on behalf of the Fine Arts teachers at Hightower Trail Middle School, to our Night of the Arts program scheduled for Tuesday, April 24. It is always exciting to have the opportunity to showcase students work. Please see our list of planned events, which begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be performances by our chorus, orchestra and band students, and a featured art show of student work. Students artwork are frame and are $35, which will benefit the visual arts program. Help us in supporting the arts and we look forward to seeing you! Mrs. Payne

BOX TOPS CONTEST Keep clipping those Box Tops! The next contest is by homeroom class. The homeroom in each grade level to turn in the most Box Tops will receive coupons for cookies to redeem in the cafeteria. This contest ends Friday, May 11. 25 th ANNIVERSARY HAT CONTEST Start designing your hat and be creative! Each homeroom will vote for the best hat in that homeroom. The winner from each homeroom will gather and compete as a grade level. The best hat in each grade level will be selected and then the best hat in the school will be selected from the winners of each grade level! This contest will take place the morning of Wednesday, April 25. Guidelines: You must use the number 25 in the design of your hat. You may use HTMS, your grade level, your grade color, etc. The idea is to promote Hightower Trail s 25 th Anniversary! So start designing your hat for Wednesday, April 25 th!!! The winners from each grade level will receive a fun prize and make a special appearance on HNN to show off the winning hat!
