First, I d like to introduce myself. I am Charla Green, your new association manager for the ISUSBCWBA. I m very excited to be in this position, serving the women bowlers of our association in the great state of Iowa! I am from Fort Dodge and this is where the state office is now located at. Please feel free to contact me at any time. If I don t have the answer for you, I ll do my best to get your answer and get back to you timely. I served as President for 15 years and am currently a director for the FDUSBCWBA. Now I d like you to meet the governing body of the Iowa State USBC Women s Bowling Assn., Inc. President, Kristi Reidy, is from Independence, where she also serves as President for her local. 1 st Vice President, from Pella, is Shirley Bloodsworth, Shirley also serves her Pella association as President. 2 nd Vice President is Marilyn Mittan of Luzerne. Marilyn is the Association Manager for the Belle Plaine USBC WBA. Sergeant- At-Arms, Carma Bouska is from Waverly where she is also her local President. Our board includes seven directors. Sally Reighard of Washington is the association manager there also. Connie Rommel, Greater Cedar Valley USBC, formerly Waterloo Metro, served as President there. Finally, Jan Thomas of the Des Moines Area USBC WBA rounds out our board. We have an exciting year ahead as this is the inaugural year of our new association. We have rich history which gives us a strong foundation on which to build and go forward. Upcoming events include our Annual State Tournament in Des Moines starting on March 10, 2007. Entries are open and will close on December 1. If you haven t already entered, send your entry in as soon as possible. It s a great event and a fun weekend for all the participants! The Friday night dinner theme is what s Cooking in Des Moines. At this dinner, the dress will be anything related to cooking. What fun ideas we can all come up with. Speaking of fun, the entertainment for Friday night is???. Yes, right!! It is a surprise!!!! You will need to be there to find out what the entertainment is. SO PLEASE ATTEND! Fun for all who do!! This survey WILL NOT AFFECT the 2007 tournament. Thank you for participating! Tuesday Night Ladies League Hull, Iowa - Sheila Meyer, Treas. Dear Iowa WBA Bowlers, Having completed our 2005-2006 season, I wanted to tell you about our 1st Timers... At our banquet I gave out six special awards for 1st Time events... 1. Sue Leaverton had her first 200 game ever!! She bowled a 200 game while having a 118 average. She received a special medallion as well as her WIBC awards for 200 game with below 160 average and also 75 pins over average. Way to go Sue!! 2. Tara Walton had her first 200 game ever!! She bowled a 203 with a 128 average. She, too, received a special medallion as well as her WIBC awards for 200 game with below 160 average and 75 pins above average for one game. Well done Tara!! Tara also picked up the 4-7-10 split. My other four special medallions were for fun. No WIBC awards for these, but they did deserve (to me) recognition. 1st Timers with split pickups... Joy Hintz 97 average picked up the 5-6-10 split and the 5-7 split all in the same night. Jennifer Prins 91 average picked up her first splits this season. Joni Den Hoed 114 average picked up the 4-7-10 split. And I (Sheila Meyer) 149 average at the time, had 8 strikes in a row. Only a 226 game. Not my highest game, but definitely my most strikes in a row. Thank You and Happy Bowling!! 2 2006 Iowa State USBC WBA Awards Banquet by Shannon McHugh, ISUSBCWBA Director 2006 Awards Banquet Chair Approximately 50 people were welcomed to the 31st Annual ISUSBCWBA Awards Banquet held September 16, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Airport Conference Center in Des Moines. This banquet honors all champions of the 2006 State Championship Tournament held in Davenport-Bettendorf; the Senior Women s Tournament which was held in Oskaloosa; as well as the Tournament of Champions singles tournament held in Des Moines. Following a delicious meal, ISUSBCWBA Association Manager Charla Green introduced each of the champions who were present and gave a brief summary of their bowling accomplishments. They were then presented with their awards and pictures were taken. (See elsewhere in this issue for the winners pictures.) Due to the decrease in state dues and lack of attendance at the annual awards banquet, the Board has decided to discontinue the awards banquet at this time. Cara Schneider of the Waverly Women s Bowling Association shot her first ever 600 series on February 27, 2006. With a 155 average Cara rolled games of 188, 203 and 222 for a 613 series. The strikes just kept coming. The opposing team were cheering her on, in fact, they took her chair away as they decided she did not need to sit down between shots. It was a thrilling night and one I do not think Cara will forget. Nice bowling Cara. And just a month later, on March 20, 2006, she rolled another 600 with games of 214, 202, and 211 for a 627 series. Cara s husband, Matt Schneider is the high school bowling coach, and her two children enjoy bowling also. We had fun getting there even though the train made a couple of unscheduled stops, the plane had an extra layover and the automobile had a flat on the way out. We all got to Reno in plenty of time to bowl. None of us thought that we did anything fantastic. But this has got to be a first. In July all the captains received an envelope from USBC. It turns out that every one of the twenty ladies received money back. The smallest check was for $15.00 and the largest was for $352.00. The ladies that went to Reno are Marie Mann, Fran Carlson, Jean Dostal, LaSiene Kapayou, Michelle Roberts, Brenda Youngbear, Margaret Youngbear, Renetta Plander, Verona Wood, Reba Blackcloud, Eva Keahna, Angie Dolash, Georgiana Keahna, Roni Kapayou, Dee Lasley, Eilene Johnson, Martha O Connor, LauraEtta Metz, Carol O Connor, and Melinda Dostal. All but one of the ladies are signed up to go to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2007. These twenty ladies make up one-third of our association.

SHIRLEY SWANK SELECTEDTOP ASSOCIATION MANAGER By Shannon McHugh, Chair of the Hall of Fame & Special Awards Committee Shirley Swank of Muscatine has been selected to receive the Outstanding Local Association Manger Award (f/k/a the Lo Borschuk Outstanding Local Secretary Award) at the ISUSBCWBA Annual Meeting in Des Moines on April 14, 2007. Shirley served as the local association secretary-treasurer for Muscatine for 24 years, and the Muscatine USBC WBA recently honored Shirley at their annual meeting and breakfast and presented her with a gift for her years of service. Shirley has been an active member of the youth association by serving on their Board of Directors. She has also assisted the youth secretaries by recording and sending the awards earned by the youth through the season, and she helped with youth sign-up. Shirley also supported and attended the High School Federation and tallied the Baker Games for the girls team at the meets. Over the years the women s association has been asked to run tournaments for the Moose, American Legion, and Elks as a money-making project. Shirley has coordinated and ran these tournaments as well. Her nomination form states I m sure when Shirley took the position of Secretary of the Muscatine Women s Bowling Association she had no idea she d still be doing the job 24 years later. But sometime through the years she set a goal of staying until she served at least 25 years. Although the 2006-2007 season would have been her 25th year, with the merge of our three associations Shirley will not reach her 25th year. But as far as we are concerned she has far exceeded her goal. With the job she has done by being conscientious, staying on top of things at all levels of bowling, local, state, and nationals, Shirley, you deserve the appreciation and recognition of the entire association FOR A JOB WELL DONE. (Shirley Etter, Muscatine USBC WBA President) Etter also said that After being a board member and attending state conventions and workshops and hearing how other secretaries do or don t do their jobs, I make sure our members realize how lucky we are that Shirley has been our secretary all these years. Karen Krula, former IWBA Secretary-Treasurer, included on Shirley s nomination form that She is a great candidate for this award. We would be very lucky indeed if we had more of her volunteering for their locals! She s great! Shirley said it took her by surprise when President Reidy called her and that she couldn t think of anything to say! She feels very honored to receive this award, and would like to thank her family (daughter Robin Honts and son Jeff Swank and their families) for their love and support over the years. Congratulations, Shirley! The Iowa State USBC Women s Bowling Association will conduct a mailin singles tournament for all current members in support of the Susan G.
