On sign up you will have to select: ü the individual competitive league or ü the non-individual competitive Everyone s steps will go into the group that they are in regardless of the category chosen. EXAMPLES Person A signs up and clicks competing, his/her steps will show up on the leaderboard and he/she will have a ranking. Person B signs up but does not click competing, his/her steps only goes to the team and does not have individual ranking for leaderboard purposes but sees her steps and group performance.
Min Size Department /Teams Who will clarify any issues within the challenge? Teams will be placed in categories dependent on size. Small 3-10 members Medium 11-24 Large 25+ Team names from prior year can be used. Each participating entity will designate a team captain who will be the main contact person for the challenge. This person will ensure that the rules, any issues and other logistical matters are clearly communicated with staff. When and how do you start? Day 1 January 15 Standard Manual Pedometer Users On January 15 th 2018 at 10 AM your pedometer MUST be showing Zero Steps. Your first 24 hr. steps recording WILL be recorded before 12 Midday on Tuesday January 16, 2018. Any unusual steps can be verified or queried by Team Captain or PCC. Fitbit and other 24 hour automated step counting gadgets with 24hr calendar days On January 15 th 2018 at 12 MIDNIGHT your pedometer MUST be showing Zero Steps. Your first 24 hr. steps recording WILL be recorded before 12 Midday on Tuesday January 16, 2018. Any unusual steps can be verified or queried by Team Captain or PCC. Going Forward On a daily basis you will have until 12pm to log the recorded steps that were counted since your last logging. You should try to log your results on a daily or consistent basis before 12pm daily.
EXCEPTION - Weekends Steps from Friday Midday until Monday Midday or Tuesday (if there is a public holiday) can either be posted: 1. Over the weekend days once you have a verifier or 2. In lump after the weekend before midday How can you earn steps? By simply moving! This can be achieved by walking, running, aerobics, dancing etc. However your device records steps will be counted. NOTE: No manual conversion of non-step activities will be allowed. What to be aware of over weekends? Note: Some pedometers can only record steps up to 99999 and will automatically reset. Be careful and beware of this over weekends and holidays as you will need to take a picture to validate your steps taken in this case when the pedometer resets. Generally it is a wise thing to take a picture of your steps in case the pedometer is lost or broken. When should you have on the pedometer? ALWAYS! The pedometer is not for use exclusively at work. It should be used at ALL times, as you are likely to take thousands of steps outside of work. The goal is to assess your activity levels as a whole.
How to log your results Verifying your steps With a pedometer, each participant will track their steps from the start to the end of the challenge. Your 24 hour steps will be recorded on an electronic leaderboard either as an individual or as part of your team score. You will be provided with a web portal link to log your steps on a daily basis. Steps MUST be entered before 12pm daily and not after 12pm. Try to be as consistent as possible. Steps MUST be validated by a participant other than you. The validator s name must be noted on the web portal. Reset your pedometer to zero only after you have logged your steps for the 24 hour period and have it validated. Fitbit users and other automated 24 hr calendar day gadgets that reset at midnight, need not reset, as you will just be posting your latest 24hr calendar day steps that are already in your system. High step counts are subject to verification. To compete for any of the top stepper prizes, you must use a wearable tracking device (fitbit, garmin, etc.) not a smart phone app or manual pedometer. This will be done on an honor system but be AWARE that unusual postings will be subject to investigation. Back posting Steps must be entered daily (except over weekends) any trends noticed by PCC on delayed postings will be investigated and subject to barring of steps not posted. What if I am on vacation or leave during the challenge and still want to Log onto the provided web portal link and log your steps. If you are on vacation or leave, enter yourself as the verifier. Send a picture to the team captain or team mate to verify.
participate? What happens if my pedometer resets in error, becomes broken or lost within a 24 hour period? What should I never do? Quickly replace and do extra steps. Promptly report the issue to your team captain. If you took a picture of the most recent steps with a time and date stamp this can be shown to the team captain or colleague to verify. Remember any unusual postings are subject to verification Always try and have a backup pedometer in case of problems. Putting a pedometer on your dog, baby, or spouse might be fun, but won't help you in your exercise goals. Besides it's lame to cheat in an exercise challenge. Do not hang the pedometer loosely from your body as steps will not be accurately recorded. Are there any Mandatory rest days? YES: ONE DAY A WEEK YOU MUST NOT POST STEPS. As the challenge is over a 3 week period, we will expect on three occasions where persons will not post steps. You choose the day to rest each week. Pace yourself and rest suitably during the challenge. Please avoid burn out. What if I don t have a waistband to clip the pedometer on (i.e., I m wearing a dress)? Place the pedometer on your undergarment s waistband or try wearing a belt with your dress. Try a wrist pedometer. Try obtaining a pedometer clip that attaches to you. Test to make sure the pedometer accurately records your steps.
Can any pedometer be used? Any device which reliably measures your step count can be used. Your cut of time for walking steps will be Midnight February 4 th. 25% will be deducted for delays beyond completion time. Should you maintain a record of your steps All participants should get into the practice of taking photos of their steps along the way if your pedometer does not have a history tracker. All other trackers that keep a history should be kept safe The PCC reserves the right and will confirm the steps of all top three performers in male and female categories before announcing the winners.
