LSPBC Treasurer Morgan Farrington graciously hosted our end of year Christmas party. The sunny weather was nice enough to hold the elections and general meeting outdoors, and; every attending family contributed something to eat for the whole group. If you missed this event, you unfortunately missed out on some quality food and fun. The meeting after lunch provided the new officers a great way to listen to the members about what they would or would not change for 2005. The limitations of the 2005 budget and it s implications was also discussed. These issues will be reviewed in more detail at the club s next meeting. See inside this issue of Quick Times to view the schedule of upcoming events. Page 1
A Word From the Show Director Well, another show season is over. All of the forms and show paraphernalia have been put on the shelf until next season. I can t say, in all honesty, that it was a great year. It was OK, but not great. All total, we had about 430 cars pass through Chuck s lot in our seven shows plus another 40 in the Ewing show. That s an average of about 59 cars per show. That s down from last year when we averaged about 75 cars per show. So you can see why I say it was only an OK year. But this much I do know, everyone who came out each month to show their cars had a good time. So we did OK. If everyone works as hard this year as they did last year, we ll do better. Our club member participation was strong, as usual. At several shows we had 20 25 Buicks in the lot. That was an impressive view. Also, there was a big increase in the number of GS s on the lot. We need to work on developing an even larger contingent of pre-80 s cars. Remember, they put the P in Buick performance. I think there are several reasons our attendance was down last year. First, there is the slumping economy. Many people just didn t seem to have as much expendable income this year as they did last year. We saw that each month in the 50/50 pots. David got very creative with some of his special offers to help increase the size of the pot. For everyone s sake, I hope that will change this year. Second, we were surrounded by new shows popping up monthly, some nearly in our back yard. I think this year we ll have to do a better job of advertising our shows just to combat the increasing number of shows each month. We ll have to work harder to get our flyers out in the public s eye. I have some ideas we can kick around at the upcoming meetings. Give it some thought over the next few weeks and let s try to come up with a plan of attack. The show points race was a huge success. Congratulations to Jack Laswell who won the top honors and to Tina Newton who finished second, a few points behind. All you guys and girls remember that if we want to continue our show and our race incentives (PRIZE MONEY) next year we ll have to find ways to increase our income to finance them. As your Show Director, I had a lot of help at each event last year. I want to personally thank all of the members for their support and help each month in organizing and running each of the shows, and a special thanks to David Newton (Vice President) for being the booming voice of LSPBC for each show. He did a great job, as usual. And thanks to Rick Kinworthy, (President) and Morgan Farrington (Secretary/Treasurer) and all the other great guys and girls who worked hard each month. Without their assistance, my job would have been much harder. I personally had a lot of fun. I ll see you at the next meeting, and remember that we have the joy and pleasure of driving some of the fastest cars on the road today. Just knowing you can dust off a Mustang or Corvette at the light is enough for me. Robert Davison General Rules for the LSPBC Car Shows in 2005 1. You must be a member of LSPBC to earn points. 2. LSPBC Denso Discount LSPBC Group Purchase for Denso Oxygen Sensors Club member Mitch Smith has arranged a group purchase price for these sensors through Monarch products. For those not familiar with the Denso O2 sensor, it has a great advantage over the GM one wire version because: 1. It has a lead filter which allows use of leaded race fuel. 2. It has been reported to last up to 5 times longer. 3. It is a direct replacement for the GM P/N AFS-20 sensor. 4. It is $10.00 cheaper with shipping. Where To Get Wholesale GM Parts I trade with Lance Dirksen (Parts Department) at Don Snell Buick on Central Expressway and Royal Lane in Dallas (214-363-7251). Lance, and his co-worker Jesse Calame, have known a number of the club members for many years. In fact, Jesse used to do heavy duty wrench work on the GS s many years ago. Jesse has since left about a year ago due to his wife s illness, but; Lance continues on. I recently spoke with Lance and he will give wholesale pricing to any LSPBC club member. Additionally, he is able to look up and get parts for any GM car or truck product. He is knowledgeable and always helpful. The current price is $16.39 + $6.00 S&H to the Arlington area. Multiple people could coordinate a simultaneous purchase to effectively reduce the S&H cost to each person! To order, call 1-888-800-9629 and give the sales staff the following information: 1. P/N 234-1001 (1-wire sensor) 2. Group purchase Acct# 12876 (LSPBC) 3. Credit Card# 4. Shipping Address Thanks Mitch! Morgan Farrington LSPBC Treasurer / Secretary Page 5
