NSPCC Number Day We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by once again taking part in their Number Day on Friday 2nd February 2018. We will be doing fun maths activities throughout the morning to help raise money for the NSPCC. Here a just a few of the activities we have planned: Reception will be making digits out of blocks and skipping ropes on the playground and going on a shape hunt. Year 1 and 2 are playing Who wants to be a maths Millionaire and doing a maths treasure hunt. While KS2 will be completing a variety of activities including: a scavenger hunt, countdown number rounds and the 1 minute challenge. Children are invited to dress up as a digit or something associated with number for a donation of 1. We had some great costumes last year. We would also like children to bring in any loose change. The aim is to collect enough coins to surround the playground. In KS1 the Year 2 children will be making cakes and then selling them at the end of the day to Reception/, Year 1 and Year 2 children. Cakes will be 25p. If your child goes to wrap or a club they will get the opportunity to buy one before they go. In reception the children will be making mathematical munchies. Please can the children bring in a donation of 1 please. In KS2 we will have a cake sale so please could you bring in your yummy cakes/biscuits for us to sell at break time. If we have any left over you will be able to purchase them at the end of the day. Cakes will cost between 25p and 50p. Both KS1 and KS2 pupils will also be able to challenge Mr May in a competition. We re looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise will make an enormous difference to children today and help change the lives of children tomorrow. Thank you Mrs Martin Reading Breakfast at Drayton Parslow and Mursley On Friday 23rd March 2018 at 8.30am - 9.00am, we would like to invite you to join us for breakfast! We ll provide the tea and croissants, you come and read with your child! If you can t make it then an aunty, uncle, grandparent or friend is welcome in your place. Please let us know that you can make it by booking through Google form which will be sent to you after half term.

Amazing Archaeologists in Year 3 As part of our Stone Age to Iron Age topic Year 3 have been considering how people today know what prehistoric life was like. This led the children to consider the job of an archaeologist and they spent the afternoon in the role, carrying out their own excavations. Year 3 dressed for the occasion and then explored their trays filled with sand and hidden objects. The trays were split into grids with string so that the children could carefully locate and record the position of any artefacts they discovered. All items were bagged and investigated in more detail later in the afternoon, when they completed their 'artefact logs'. Mrs Goodman Year 3 s Den Discovery In English, Year 3 have been learning about story settings and have based this on 'Stig of the Dump'. To their surprise, the children discovered Stig's den on the field behind the Year 3 classroom one morning! The children used this to help them write their descriptions of the den and to use more prepositions within their writing. Year 3 were also able to suggest ways in which the den could be improved in the future. Mrs Goodman

World Book Day Celebrations (March 2018) Drayton Parslow and Mursley Thursday 1st March 2018 Friday 2nd March 2018 The teachers are busy preparing exciting activities to celebrate World Book Day and as part of the fun, children are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters. We will be celebrating at on Thursday 1st March and at on Friday 2nd March. We can t wait to see what outfits the children come up with this year. Exciting times in EYFS (Mursley) We have had a wonderful time with our Superhero topic. We met John, a real-life superhero who volunteers as a blood courier and helps save lives! We also talked about making healthy choices and enjoyed a Superhero breakfast at school. We have made shields, masks, cuffs and even designed and named our own superheroes. We are also looking forward to a superhero obstacle course in the next week or two! And of course, we all loved dressing up as our favourite superheroes on our WOW Day! Mrs Smuts

Sport News from the Three Schools Sporting Success! Last week we were presented with the plaque for the Gold Sports Mark Award. Only 4 other schools in the Buckingham School Sports Partnership received it due to the tough criteria and we are the smallest school so it is an amazing achievement. We were externally validated for the award back in October, and are very proud to get recognition for all the hard work and dedication that goes into sport at by all the staff and children. We have also had it confirmed that our netball team have got through to the Level 3 games later in the year after being one of the top teams from the festival last term. We are lucky to have Mrs Wilford at the school who helped the team prepare for their matches. Sports Skills! We have started a new sporting session at during lunch times. It is a child led initiative and sees children from all year groups become mini-coaches. The year 6 sports captains oversee the sessions, and 5 children from each class take turns to set up, coach and run each one, which can be attended by anyone. The idea is to give children increased confidence in their sports skills, and to encourage more activity during lunch times. It also gives us an opportunity to train up sports leaders within the school. On 8th February, ten Year 4 and 5 children have been chosen to take part in a Primary Sports Leadership conference at Stoke Manderville Stadium to learn the skills an ideas that they will need help them with the sessions. Basketball Matches We recently took part in two basketball festivals - one for Year 3/4 and one for Year 5/6. We were so proud of both teams for their sportsmanship and determination with each match. These were the most schools we have had at any festival in the last 5 years as two areas have merged together this year. They are looking to limit the number of teams in the future to prevent the competitions over running. In the Year 3/4 festival we won our first match, lost our second (to the eventual winners) and drew our third match. We were up against some pretty tall competition, but our team jumped high to get the ball, got into spaces and quickly passed, allowing us to score well in each game. They improved with each game they played and did an excellent job, coming 8th overall! Our next match is a hockey competition and we need to keep our title as we won it last year and got through to the Level 3 Games - no pressure then! Luckily Coach Tony is going to work with the team before the game and I know they are putting in lots of practise at lunch times. Mrs Hill
