Dear Valued Members, On the heels of what was perhaps, the best season for the club since its inception, I want to wish safe travels to all those who are returning home for the summer! Please note the May hours of operation for the club and shuttle boat on the cover page of newsletter. As always, the pool, bocce and tennis courts & fitness will be open on closed days and towels will be available. On May 5 th from 4-7pm, we will have our annual Kentucky Derby party at the Tiki Bar. Ladies, please remember to wear your Big Hat for prizes. On May 28 th, we will also have a Memorial Day Cook Out, which will feature an exciting new menu! Thanks to some great feedback and support from our Advisory Committee, next season we will be hosting monthly member mixers at both the clubhouse and at the tennis pro shop. On dinner evenings, we will have a Singles Table, and the monthly General Manager's Wine & Cheese and Donuts & Coffee programs will continue. Additionally, before next season, we will be changing the house vodka, house wines, and adding an additional service station at the tiki bar. As always, it is our pleasure to serve the membership. Regards, Mark Nicklas
Our season is winding down but activity at the tennis courts is still going strong. We will continue to be open and operating our usual hours through April 30 th. Beginning May 1 the pro shop will be closed on Sundays and Mondays, but the courts will be open for play. We will be here this summer for lessons, clinics and cardio! There will be a few weeks we are travelling away for tournaments and weddings, but other than that, we will be around! We would be remiss if we didn t say a big thank you to few special people who made this season run so smoothly for all of us. First to Betsy and Mary in the pro shop. Both of these ladies make our job run like clockwork. They answer the phone, take care of everyone who comes in the pro shop and makes sure everyone is pointed in the right direction during the court time changes. Mary will be here this summer to work as needed, but unfortunately, by choice, Betsy is leaving us. She will be going back to the Massachusetts area. We will all miss her dearly and wish her nothing but the best in her journeys. We will be on the search to find someone to work the pro shop for next season. We also want to thank Coach John Pastore. John so willingly runs our monthly mixers (also affectionately known as a John Pastore Production ) for the men, women and mixed doubles. This is an invaluable service to us. His humor and wit make each tournament a fun and memorable tennis experience! We want to thank all the captains of league teams. You all have a thankless job of recruiting and organizing your teams. You plan practices, set your line ups and communicate with all your players on a weekly, if not daily basis. Tarpon Cove produces 16 teams each winter season, and it takes someone special to volunteer to take charge and make a team successful. So thank you for your time and efforts! Last, but not least, we thank each and every member who comes through the pro shop door. You may play tennis, you may only use the fitness center or none of the above. It doesn t matter. You smile is always welcome. We have gotten to know so many of you through the years and we love to see you to just say hi. Thank you for your continued support and friendships! Have a great summer and we ll see you at the courts! Myke and Phil Tennis Tip: Crosscourt return of serve Don t try to be flashy and attempt too many passing shots when you return the serve. Hitting a crosscourt return is a better doubles strategy. To be more effective in your cross-court passes, hit the ball low and of course cross-court and land the ball around the service line (dipping to the opposing team s feet). Another thing to remember to avoid deep returns especially if the player who is not serving (server s partner) is a mobile person. If you do so, there is a big chance that he will poach (means he will hit the ball that is supposed to be hit by his partner).
Hello to all, Hope everyone had a good time here this season. We had two evening cruises in April and as always a great time had by all. We re going to have a wine and cheese cruise on the May 19 th, so sign up early. We will also be having evening cruises in the summer. The dredging was off to a slow start, but now is going strong. Not sure how long it will take, will let everyone know when I find out. The red tide is still pretty strong around the beaches, it s been hanging around longer than normal. They are cleaning up the beaches as fast as they can. Starting in May the boat will be running Wednesday- Sunday with the last pick up off the beach at 3:45pm. As we begin to slow down we have plenty of chairs on the boat for you to use. Hope everyone has a great summer. See you at the docks! Capt.
