Introduction British Triathlon aims to support elite senior, U23 and junior athletes at the ITU and ETU Aquathlon Championships. British Triathlon will cover the cost of entry fees to the events and provide GB race kit but not travel and accommodation costs. Athletes will need to be self-funded to compete at these events. Due to the small number of athletes who traditionally compete in these events, BTF is committed to supporting potential medal winners only and all selection decisions will be taken with this in mind. 2016 Chateauroux ETU Aquathlon European Championships - June 25th 2016 Senior and Under 23 Teams Initially up to three male senior and three female senior places and one male U23 and one female U23 place will be available. If any categories are not filled, additional athletes may be added across the categories to bring the total team size to six per gender. Athletes will be selected in the following order of preference: 1. Elite aquathlon medallists from the 2015 ITU World and European Aquathlon Championships looking to contest the same championship category; 2. Medallists from other elite aquathlon races in the last 18 months looking to contest the same championship category; 3. Athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, demonstrate from race performances (single discipline and / or triathlon races) in the last 18 months before the closing date that their open water swimming and running splits indicate an ability to finish within 2% of the winner (senior and U23 men) or 3% of the winner (senior and U23 women) in their respective race. As a guidance to standards, athletes will be expected to show as a minimum: 3.1. For the men: 3.1.1. A sub 9.00 minutes 750m swim time 3.1.2. A 5km pb under 16.15 mins

3.2. For the women: BRITISH TRIATHLON FEDERATION 3.2.1. A sub 9.30 mins 750 swim time 3.2.2. A 5km pb under 18 minutes 3.3. Obtaining the minimum standard will not guarantee selection; and 4. At point 3, the Selection Committee will consider each athlete s best performance only and compare it to other athletes best performances. Other results will be disregarded. All athletes are required to notify the British Triathlon Performance Coordinator (mhairibillington@britishtriathlon.org) in writing that they wish to compete by 5pm on 2 May 2016. Except in unforeseen circumstances, selections to the team will be notified to athletes by 13 May 2016 and will be announced once all notifications are complete. Junior Teams A Team of up to two male and two female athletes will be selected in the following order of preference. This may be extended to a maximum of six junior athletes if the senior team is not filled: 1. Junior medallists from the 2015 World and European Triathlon Championships; 2. Returning medallists from the 2015 World or European Aquathlon Championships; 3. Athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, demonstrate from results in junior drafting triathlon races or single discipline events in the last 18 months before the closing date the ability to finish within 2.5% of the winner. As a guide to standards, athletes will be expected to have 340 points on the British Triathlon talent points indicator which equates approximately to: 3.1. For junior men: 3.1.1. A 400m swim under 4.25 minutes 3.1.2. A 3km run 8.46; 3.2. For junior women: 3.2.1. A 400m swim 4.42 minutes 3.2.2. A 3km run 10.10 minutes; 3.3. Guidance on the points indicator can be obtained from Mhairi Billington at mhairibillington@britishtriathlon.org; and

4. At point 2, the Selection Committee will consider each athlete s best performance only and compare it to other athletes best performances. Other results will be disregarded. All athletes are required to notify the British Triathlon Performance Co-ordinator (mhairibillington@britishtriathlon.org) by 5pm on 8 May 2015. Except in unforeseen circumstances, selections to the Team will be notified to athletes by 15 May 2015 and will be announced once all notifications are complete. ITU Aquathlon World Championships Cozumel - 12 September 2016 The ITU have not provided the details of the aquathlon at the Grand Final. The selection policy below assumes an elite race at this event and that there will be all age categories but the policy below will only come into effect if this is confirmed. Please note that the date of the event is also assumed and not yet fixed within the schedule. Athletes will be provided with race suit and entry only but will have to self-fund to travel to Mexico. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to include them in the organisation of the World Class Team attending the Grand Final. Senior and Under 23 Teams Initially up to three male senior and three female senior places and one male U23 and one female U23 will be available. If any categories are not filled, additional athletes may be added across the categories to bring the total team size to six per gender. Athletes will be selected in the following order of preference: 1. Elite aquathlon medallists from the 2015 ITU World Aquathlon Championships or the 2016 European Aquathlon Championships looking to contest the same championship category; 2. Athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, demonstrate from race performances (single discipline and / or triathlon races) in the last 18 months from the closing date that their open water swimming and running splits indicate an ability to finish within 2% of the winner (senior and U23 men) or 3% of the winner (senior and U23

women) in their respective race. As a guidance to standards, athletes will be expected to show as a minimum: 3.1. For men: 3.1.1. A sub 9.00 minutes 750m swim time 3.1.2. A 5km pb under 16.15 mins; 3.2. For women: 3.2.1. A sub 9.30 mins 750 swim time 3.2.2. A 5km pb under 18 minutes; 3.3. Obtaining the minimum standard will not guarantee selection; and 4. Except in unforeseen circumstances, selections to the team will be notified to athletes by 8 August 2016 and will be announced once all notifications are complete. Athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, demonstrate from results in junior drafting triathlon races or single discipline events in 2016 the ability to finish within 2.5% of the winner.
