Jay Davis, The New Golf Pro We would like to say welcome to Jay Davis our new Golf Pro. We are very excited to have him for his teaching abilities, junior programs and his enthusiasm for fresh innovative ideas on how to grow the game of golf for new and existing members. If you have any questions about his programs or would like to set up a lesson, please don t hesitate to stop by the golf shop and have a conversation with him. Also if you are interested in upping your wardrobe or golf clubs to keep up with the latest trends, he is the man to help you with that. "Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose." - Winston Churchill Friday Night Scrambles: 2 Every other Friday for the next couple of weeks we will be doing a 2 person (couples) scramble at 6pm. These games are mostly just for fun and to have another excuse to come out and golf. However, they are also a great opportunity to invite guest to join you on the course that might be interested in joining the club. We like to have members host the events and have a few weeks open to host. You don t necessarily have to come up with the type of game or theme, Jay or Mike will be happy to do that, but mostly to encourage others to play. If you have any questions about hosting or playing, feel free to contact Mike or Jay. Here is the Schedule for the rest of the season. Friday June 12th - (Needs Host) Friday June 26th - (Needs Host) Friday July 10th - Crosby Family Friday July 24th - Keck Family Friday Aug 6th - Andreas Wilz
New Kitchen Equipment Some of our new kitchen equipment has already arrived and the rest is on the way! This is our new Alto Sham and we have received a new stainless steal work table. We are also awaiting the arrival of our new pass-through refrigerator and new freezer. Chef James was very appreciative of receiving the new equipment and it should help him out greatly with his day to day work. This is a great example of The Capital Improvement Fund at work. We are thankful to all who have donated. Drink of the month: June s Drinks Of The Month will be sponsored by Jim and Audrey Keck, and by Bombay Sapphire Gin. Ladies No Rules Golf Starting June 25th Ottumwa Country Club is going to begin a Ladies No Rules Evenings. June 4th, 11th, and 18th at 5pm, we will be having clinics for ladies leading up to the no rules evenings. The clinics will cover all parts of the game designed to help improve and get more enjoyment out of the game. The clinic will cost you $25.00 per night. Then starting on June 25th come out at 5pm and play fun no rules golf. For example you don t like bunkers? Take one swing and if the ball doesn't get out, then throw it on the green. Or if you like hitting it off a tee and you re in the middle of the fairway, tee it up! No cost other than the cart fee. For any questions or to sign up contact Jay in the Pro shop. 641-684-4471 The three special drinks will be: Bikini Martini Bombay Cosmo Carmel Appel Martini 3
Indian Hills Golf Team Congratulations to the Indian Hills Golf Team for winning the NJCAA Nationals Championship for the second year in a row. The boys pulled out a nail biter win in the last 6 holes of the tournament. This would make Coach Mike Hagen a champion now for 4 out of 5 years and in my mind that sounds like a dynasty. We are very lucky to have such a prestigious team playing on our course and being a part of our club. Congratulations Indian Hills! When you have one of the oldest sports of all-time if not the oldest you get a lot of time for some truly great quotes. Pool Repairs Here at Ottumwa Country Club we understand what value the pool brings to our members. Many of you have shared stories of swimming relays for school when you were younger, to bringing your children and now grandchildren out to swim. With that, we apologize for the delay in getting the pool open on time, but we appreciate your patience with this. We wanted to make sure that the pool would be up to quality and safety standards you would expect in a family environment such as this. Thanks to the capital improvement fundraising we were able to get walls of the pool fixed properly, not temporarily. We were able to get a new diving board and a much needed paint job to really spruce it up. Hopefully a lot of these repairs will benefit the club and the members for the coming years and protect us from more costly damage down the road. Again, we thank you for your patience and look forward to seeing everyone out there this summer. 4
If you would like to make the US Open more exciting than what it already is, contact Jay our Golf Pro and get in on the pool. Corporate and Business Packages: This year we will be offering new corporate and business membership packages. These packages are designed to allow business the opportunity to show appreciation to employees and partners for jobs well done. At the same time it creates more club exposure for the golf course and increase's restaurant traffic and sales. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Mike for more details. gm@ottumwacountryclub.com Ottumwa Country Club 304 East Golf Ave Ottumwa, IA 52501 641-684-5491 gm@ottumwacountryclub.com Www.ottumwacountryclub.com
