Summer Staff 2015 Bill Dahm, Director of Tennis: Bill enters his twelfth year as Director of Tennis at the White Eagle Owners Club. Bill is a USPTA certified professional. Prior to coming here, Bill was Director of Tennis at Stonebridge Country Club for five years. He also spent eighteen years as Head Pro at Aurora Tennis Club. Bill is currently the Director of Tennis at Norris Center Racquet Club. Jon Holic, Adult Coordinator: Jon spent three years as Director of Tennis at Cress Creek Country Club. He was also the Head Pro for Wimbledon Racquet Club for three years. Jon is currently the USTA Men s Coordinator for Oak Brook Racquet Club. Jon is a USPTA certified professional. This is Jon s twelfth year on staff at White Eagle Owners Club. Lance Gorman, Assistant Pro: Lance is the Director of Junior Tennis at Norris Center. Previously, Lance taught at Rush Copley HealthPlex for nine years. This is Lance s tenth year at the White Eagle Owners Club. Kevin Flanagan, Assistant Pro: Kevin is an active USTA Captain and league player with over 18 years of total playing experience. He is currently a Staff Pro at Norris Center Racquet Club, and was formerly the Head Pro at Farmstead Swim and Racquet Club. This will be his fourth year as a Pro at White Eagle Owners Club. Grant Gatto, Assistant Pro: Grant was a 3-year varsity player at Benet Academy and a 2- time state qualifier, finishing in the top 24 in the state in Boys Doubles. Currently, Grant is a sophomore at Purdue University. This will be Grant s fourth year at White Eagle Owners Club. Amanda Glavin, Assistant Pro: Amanda is a 4-year varsity tennis player at Waubonsie Valley High School and 2-time state qualifier in Girls Doubles. She will be a sophomore at the University of Illinois next fall. This is Amanda s fourth year on staff at White Eagle Owners Club. Kelley Cain, Assistant Pro: Kelley was a 3-year varsity player at Neuqua Valley High School. She was a state qualifier in girls doubles, finishing in the top 32 at state. Welcome to White Eagle Owners Club Tennis! White Eagle Owners Club tennis courts are for the exclusive use of White Eagle homeowners and should only be used for playing tennis. While in the past classes have been limited to White Eagle residents, select classes will be open this summer to guests as well. Please read through your copy of the 2015 Spring and Summer schedule to explore the many classes and activities we will be offering this year at the Owners Club. The tennis staff at White Eagle is here to provide you with a quality tennis program through both social and competitive match play that is geared towards those of all ages and skill levels. There is sure to be something to fit your needs. If you have a special request for a class or activity, feel free to contact Bill Dahm, Director of Tennis at the Tennis Cabana, 820-5966, and we will try to adapt our resources to better fit your needs. General Class Information: Select tennis classes will continue to be open to both White Eagle residents and their guests. This provides an exciting opportunity to include friends from other communities in your summer activities! More information about this opportunity will be available upon request at the Tennis Cabana. Throughout the season, we will try to maintain a ratio of one instructor for every six students in the class. There must be a minimum of four registered, pre-paid students in order to run a class. Please indicate specific dates on your registration form if you know that you or your child will be absent from a class because of travel so that your class fees can be pro-rated. Also, note that all lessons must be prepaid. No one will be allowed in lessons if a payment has not been made. If you or your child is unexpectedly absent from a class due to illness, injury or other unanticipated event, please contact Bill Dahm at the Tennis Cabana so that we can arrange for you or your child to attend another class at the appropriate level. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals after the first scheduled class except for in cases of illness/injury, accompanied by a doctor s note. Withdrawal requests should be submitted to the director of tennis. If a class is rained out, every attempt will be made to make it up. Specific make up dates will be given at the following class or you will be notified by email or phone. Classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. You will be contacted by phone or email** prior to the start of each session only if that class is not going to run. Registration Information: We ask that you register for all programs at least one week prior to their start date this includes lessons, special activities and tournaments. We continue to add new students throughout the session if there are openings in order to accommodate new residents and those who have changed their summer schedules. Two registration forms can be found in the back of this handbook. Additional forms are available at the Tennis Cabana. Please complete your registration form and either: drop it in the box by the Owners Clubhouse or mail it to Baum Property Service, P.O. Box 46, Aurora, IL, 60507. ** Please include your email address on the form so that we may easily contact you for special events and activities as well as with rainout information.** 3

Junior Summer Lesson Descriptions Summer Session: June 8 th Aug 15 th (10-week session)* Little Tennis, ages 4-5: This class teaches younger children appropriate movement skills for tennis such as running and transferring weight. The children also learn pre-striking and striking techniques. Classes include a variety of games and other activities geared towards helping children learn basic tennis skills while having fun with the game. Hot Shots, ages 6-8: This class is for children who have either never played before or who have been previously enrolled in Pee Wee and/or Little Tennis. Players should be able to toss and catch as well as have some success bouncing a tennis ball with their racquet. Hot Shots is structured to improve motor and ball striking skills. Children will receive an introduction to ground strokes, volleys and serves in an atmosphere of fun games and activities. Stars, ages 7-10: This class is for beginners who have either never played tennis before and for those who have previously been enrolled in Little Tennis or Hot Shots. Players should be able to toss and catch and have some success bouncing a tennis ball with their racquet. Stars will focus on groundstrokes, volleys and serves. They will also be introduced to the basic rules of both singles and doubles as well as scoring. Players will develop the fundamental skills of the game through a variety of drills, games and other activities. Superstars, ages 8-12: This class is geared towards those players who have had some tennis instruction and playing experience. They should be able to sustain a short rally from the service line and know the basics of groundstrokes, volleys and serves. Superstars is designed to build on basic skills and will introduce lobs, overheads, and some specialty shots. Players will also begin basic singles and doubles match play. Students will learn through a series of fun drills and games that will improve their consistency and confidence. Challengers, ages 11-13: This class is geared towards those who have had tennis instruction and playing experience in the past. They should be able to do some rallying from baseline and have some success playing out points with those of similar skill levels. Challengers is intended to build upon basic skills and experience, while sharpening consistency and accuracy in a competitive environment through games, drills and match play. Jr. High/ High School Beginners, ages 13-18: This class is geared towards Jr. High and High school students who have had little or no tennis instruction and playing experience in the past. Players will be introduced to basic strokes and rules of the game as well as beginning singles and doubles match play. * Please note that dates for the beginning of junior summer classes are contingent upon school calendars. Should the end of term dates change, we will adjust as necessary. We have one large summer session. Please note you may pro-rate ahead of time for any classes that you or your children know you will be missing. 8

Junior Excellence Camps 2015 White Eagle Junior Excellence Camps is open to all White Eagle juniors who want to maximize their tennis abilities in an intense, positive and fun environment. Our emphasis in 2015 will continue to be sportsmanship, understanding of court etiquette, and developing the foundations for a successful tennis experience. White Eagle Owners Club offers two camps each summer: the Junior High Excellence Camp, for those Junior High age or younger, and the High School Excellence Camp for those in high school. These two successful camps have trained many junior players who participate on high school tennis teams, in USTA tournament leagues and in individual tournament play. Junior Excellence Camps 2015 run 5 days a week and will include: 1. Two 2-hour mandatory team drills focusing on stroke analysis and production, drill progressions, match strategy and sports science, conditioning for flexibility, strength, endurance, power, speed, agility and fitness. 2. One day of competitive USTA League matches 3. One day of singles ladder play 4. Friday afternoon competitive match participation 10-week Junior High Excellence Camp: June 8 th Aug 15 th $680 10-week High School Excellence Camp: June 8 th Aug 15 th $680 (No match play on July 3 rd ) *Costs include: White Eagle team T-shirt, entry in the White Eagle Junior Singles and Doubles Championship Tournaments, entry into the Junior City Singles and Doubles Tournaments, and Ladder prizes for all Junior Singles Ladder participants. PLEASE NOTE: Players who will be absent from camp due to a pre-scheduled vacation, summer school or other conflicting activities may pro-rate costs by deducting $50 a week from the total camp fee. Specific date(s) of absence must be indicated on registration form in order to receive pro-rated fees. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals after the first scheduled class except for cases of illness or injury that can be verified with a doctor s note. In compliance with I.H.S.A guidelines, girls who are playing high school tennis will be able to prorate $50.00 per week if they are unable to attend camp in August. 10

Junior High Excellence Camp Weekly Schedule 2015 Open to all White Eagle residents who are high school age or younger that are interested in reaching their full tennis potential through intensive drills, conditioning and match play. Players should be able to maintain a rally from the baseline, serve, and should be familiar with all the shots needed to play a competitive match. If you are interested in participating in these additional morning drills, please contact Bill Dahm at the Tennis Cabana for more information. * The match times may vary depending upon our opponents and the number of courts they have. **Junior Interclub Leagues- Throughout the past 12 years, White Eagle Junior players have exemplified excellent competitive match play and sportsmanship in the Friday afternoon interclub matches and the conference tournaments. Additionally, by playing matches against other country clubs and park districts in the area, junior players are exposed to a large variety of stronger competition. 11

Adult Summer Lesson Descriptions Summer Session: June 8 th Aug 15 th (10-week session)* Adult Beginners: This class is designed for adults who have had no previous tennis experience or who have not picked up a racquet in several years. It will introduce players to ground strokes, volleys, and serves. Players will also be familiarized with basic rules and tennis etiquette, scoring, and court positioning for singles and doubles. Adult Advanced Beginners: This class is intended for those who have basic tennis skills and are able to perform ground strokes, volleys and serves. The player may have knowledge of scoring and rules, and may have had some lessons, but lacks on-court experience. These players should be able to keep a ball in play with others of similar ability. This class is geared towards improving basic skills, while introducing lobs and overheads. It will also establish singles and doubles strategies and some specialty shots along with an emphasis in shot placement, footwork, and serve consistency. Cardio Tennis: Do you want to get your heart thumping and set your feet stomping, while doing some ball bashing? Do you want to take those jiggles and wiggles and turn them into toned perfection? Then this is the class for you! Cardio Tennis provides high-energy training using sports science conditioning to develop flexibility, strength, endurance, power, speed and agility. Players should have a minimum understanding of stroke production and come dressed for a great workout. Each class will include a short warm-up and stretch period to wake up muscles. During the class, players will spend 20-30 minutes involved in non-stop drills that keep their feet moving while increasing stamina on the court and working on balance, footwork, recovery and speed. Class will end with another stretch period and a cool down. Adult Drill and Play: This is a co-ed class for intermediate through advanced players. The first hour of class will feature a variety of drills with an emphasis on stroke production and analysis through drill progressions. The final half hour of class will be supervised singles and doubles match play. Adult Tennis Leagues 2015 The Naperville Women s Summer Interclub League White Eagle will be hosting 4-5 ladies traveling teams involved in the Naperville Women s Summer Interclub League. The number and levels of teams we will field in 2015 will be dependant upon the number and skill level of participants. Last summer, we had four teams. Placement on teams is based upon levels of play: C Team-3.4 and below; B Team- 3.5-3.9; A Team- 4.0 and above. The levels of the league will be determined by the number of teams at each level. Bill will place White Eagle teams in their appropriate levels, depending upon numbers of players. Please contact Bill Dahm, Director of Tennis, at the Tennis Cabana if you have any questions or concerns regarding your placement on a team. Matches are on Friday mornings. B Teams play matches from 8:00-10:00am; A and C Teams play their matches from 10:00am-Noon. Match Dates for this season are: June 5 th, 12 th, 19 th, 26 th ; July 10 th, 17 th, 24 th, and 31 st. Final dates will be set up at the league meeting. Match/drill schedule is subject to change based upon school year extensions for snow days. Mandatory team drills will be held Tuesday mornings from 8:00-10:00am for the A Team, Monday mornings from 8:30am-10:30am for the B Teams, and Wednesday mornings from 8:30am-10:30am for the C Teams. The summer session of team drills begin Monday June 1 st. There are 10 weeks of mandatory drills. The last week of drills will be held the week of August 3 rd, however, there will be optional summer team drills following the regular season for those who are interested. If you know that you will be absent from drills due to a pre-scheduled vacation, you may pro-rate the drill fee at $20.00 per drill. Specific dates of absence must be indicated on your registration form in order to receive this pro-rated fee. We would ask that all residents who are interested in participating in interclub email Bill Dahm by April 30 th in order to ensure their spot on a team. For this summer, we will continue to allow a limited number of non-residents to join our interclub teams. Non-resident enrollment begins on May 1 st. After this date, residents may of course still sign up, however, teams will be filled on a first come-first serve basis. Ladies Team Fee $250.00 Additional B Team Drill: We will continue to offer an additional B Team drill. This drill will be held Thursdays from 11am-12:30am and will be open to all those who are already signed up for Monday morning B Team drills, but are looking for an extra day of practice. General Court Rules White Eagle Tennis Courts are available for the excusive use of White Eagle residents and their guests. Tennis courts may be used for tennis only. Absolutely no wheeled vehicles such as roller blades, skateboards, etc. are allowed on the tennis courts at any time. Proper tennis attire is required. Please refrain from wearing dark soled shoes on the court as they can leave permanent marks on the courts surface. Shirts are also required at all times. Proper tennis etiquette should be exhibited at all times. Food is restricted to the canopied areas between the court banks and should not at any time be taken onto the courts. Tennis players should check in at the Tennis Cabana upon arrival. Identification may be requested. If a player cannot produce identification, he or she may be asked to leave the courts. White Eagle lessons and special events always have court priority. For a list of lesson and event schedules please refer to the activity section of this brochure.
